Recently, the utilization of recycled aggregates for backfilling a power transmission pipeline trench has been increasing due to the issues of eco-friendly construction and shortage of natural aggregate resource. It is important to investigate the physical and thermal properties of the recycled aggregates that can be used as a backfill material. This study presents the thermal properties of two types of recycled aggregates with various particle size distributions. The thermal properties of the recycled aggregate were measured using the transient hot wire method and the probe method after performing the standard compaction test using an automatic compactor. Similar to silica sand, the thermal resistivity of the recycled aggregates decreased when the water content increased. This study shows that the recycled aggregate can be a promising backfill material substituting for natural aggregate when backfilling the power transmission pipeline trench.
The service life of agricultural concrete structures is designed in about 30 to 100 years, but actual service lift is estimated in an average 18 years. Therefore, as the service life of the agricultural concrete structures increases, necessity of repair by aging from various environment condition exposure increases. This study was to determinate the optimum mix proportion of latex modified repair mortar and to improve the durability performance of agricultural concrete structures. The physical and mechanical tests of latex modified repair mortar were performed. Tests of flow, compressive strength, flexural strength and bond strength tests were conducted. Test results show that the optimum nex proportion of latex modified repair mortar, when used in 5% latex volume fraction (weight of cement), 1.5% antifoaming agent (weight of latex), 0.2% PVA fiber volume fraction, 1:2 (binder-sand ratio), 10% silica fume replacement ratio (weight of cement), could result in best performance for the repair of agricultural concrete structures.

Geopolymer mortar compressed blocks were prepared using fly ash, ground granulated blast furnace slag, silica fume and metakaolin as binders and sand/quarry dust/pond ash as fine aggregate. Alkaline solution was used to activate the source materials for synthesizing the geopolymer mortar. Fresh mortar was used to obtain the compressed blocks. The strength development with reference to different parameters was studied. The different parameters considered were fineness of fly ash, binder components, type of fine aggregate, molarity of alkaline solution, age of specimen, fluid-to-binder ratio, binder-to-aggregate ratio, degree of saturation, etc. The compressed blocks were tested for compression at different ages. It was observed that some of the blocks attained considerable strength within 24 h under ambient conditions. The cardinal aim was to analyze the experimental data generated to formulate a phenomenological model to arrive at the combinations of the ingredients to produce geopolymer blocks to meet the strength development desired at the specified age. The strength data was analyzed within the framework of generalized Abrams' law. It was interesting to note that the law was applicable to the analysis of strength development of partially saturated compressed blocks when the degree of saturation was maintained constant. The validity of phenomenological model was examined with an independent set of experimental data. The blocks can replace the traditional masonry blocks with many advantages.
The thermal conductivity and viscosity(or workability) of graphite-added bentonite grouts and cementitious grouts have been evaluated and compared to determine the suitability of these materials for backfilling vertical boreholes of ground heat exchangers. Seven bentonite grouts from different product sources and a portland cement grout with various mixture ratios were considered in this paper. As a new additive for grout, we choose graphite which has high thermal conductivity. The bentonite grouts indicate that the thermal conductivity and viscosity increase with the content of bentonite or with an addition of Graphite compared with that of silica sand. In case of cementitious grout also increase the thermal conductivity and decrease the workability dramatically though an addition of Graphite. Therefore, we cautiously select the amount of graphite and mixture ratio of bentonite and cement considering not only thermal conductivity but also viscosity for the optimum condition of backfilling material.
This study is to investigate the characteristics of heat transfer of a horizontal tube, with radial fins of various configuration, immersed in a high temperature fluidized bed. The experimental heat transfer variation is compared with that of a smooth tube. The finned tubes and smooth tube, with outside and inside diameter of 48.6mm and 30.6mm, are made of steel tubes. The depth of the fin is 5mm, the rake angles of fin are $25^{\circ},\;35^{\circ},\;45^{\circ}$ and the widthes of fin for each rake angle are 0mm, 1mm, 2mm and 3mm. A bed temperature is fixed at $880\;{\pm}\;10^{\circ}C$. A granular refractory(silica sand) is used as a bed material with mean particle diameters of 1.22mm and 1.54mm. The maximum heat transfer coefficient is achieved with the rake angle of $25^{\circ}$ and the width of 0mm for the mean particle size 1.22mm. The coefficient is 2.14 times larger than that for a smooth tube. The rake angle for the maximum heat transfer coefficient depends on the particle size of bed material. Also the transfer coefficient decreases as the width of fin increases.
Excessive phosphorus in aquatic systems causes algal bloom resulting in eutrophication, DO depletion, decline in recreational value of water and foul tastes. To treat wastewater containing phosphorus including effluent of wastewater treatment plant, the continuous experiments were performed by using electrochemical way. The spherical ZVI and silica sand which act as physical filter are packed at appropriate volume ratio of 1:2. Electric potential is applied externally which can be changed as per the operational requirement. The results indicate that optimum hydraulic retention time of 36 minutes (10 mL/min at 1 L reactor) was required to meet the effluent standards. Lower concentrations of phosphorus (<10 mg/L as phosphate) were removed by precipitation by contact with iron. Thus, additional electric potential was not required. In order to remove high concentration phosphorus around 150 mg/L as phosphate, external electric potential of 600 V was applied to the reactor.

Barrier ribs in the plasma display panel (PDP) function to maintain the discharge space between the glass plates as well as to prevent optical crosstalk. Patterning of barrier ribs is one of unique processes for making PDP. Barrier ribs could be formed by screen-printing, sand blasting, etching, and photolithographic process. In this work photosensitive barrier rib pastes were prepared by incorporating binder polymer, solvent, functional monomers photoinitiator, and barrier rib powder of which surface was treated with fumed silica particles. Studies on the function of materials for the barrier rib paste were undertaken. After optimization of paste formulation and photolithographic process, it was applied to the photosensitive barrier rib green sheet and was found that photolithographic patterning of barrier ribs could be formed with good resolution up to $110{\mu}m$ height and $60{\mu}m$ width after sintering.
The batch compositions and physical properties of slag-ceramics were studied with respect to their formability from the molten state and conditions of nucleation and crystal growth treatment. The selected batch compositions for nucleation and growth studies were slag, 56%; silica sand, 28%; $Na_2O+MgO$, 8% and $TiO_2+$chromite, 8%. The optimum nucleation condition was the temperature of 75$0^{\circ}C$ with 6 hrs. holding time and the optimum growth condition was the temperature 975$^{\circ}C$ with zero holding time. The slag-ceramics prepared under the above conditions showed the best developed microtexture. The grown crystals were identified as diopside with the average grain size of 5.7$\mu\textrm{m}$, and the amount of crystal grown were about 53% by weight. The prepared specimens of slag-ceramics showed the microhardness, 793kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$; MOR, 1,050 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and thermal expansion coefficient, $85{\div}10^{-7}$cm/cm/$^{\circ}C$($25^{\circ}C$~$700^{\circ}C$).
