As a method to improve the equipment reliability, early warning researches that can be detected fault symptom of an equipment at an early stage are being performed out among developed countries. In this paper, when abnormal signal is input to actual normal signal of a pump, early detection studies on pump's fault symptom were carried out with auto-associative kernel regression as an advanced pattern recognition algorithm. From analysis, correlations among power of motor driving pump, discharge flow of pump, power output of pump, and discharge pressure of pump are exited. When the abnormal signal is input to one of those normal signals, the other expected values are changed due to the influence of the abnormal signal. Therefore, the fault symptom of pump through the early-warning index is able to detect at an early stage.

We propose a novel displacement measurement method in the LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) structure. This proposed algorithm is independent of coil pattern, which may be implemented to PCB, or transformer component, because it is based on the signal-mapping method. we have manufactured several boards which have different coil patterns and our algorithm is ported into TMS320F2812 of TI DSP chipset. The output signal has high accuracy and high stability although PCB coil pattern are coarse.
Although several methods have been used to assess the pain levels, few practical methods for classifying presence or absence of the pain using pattern classifiers have been suggested. The aim of this study is to design an pattern classifier that classifies the presence or absence of the pain using electrocardiogram (ECG). We measured the ECG signal from 10 subjects with the painless state and the pain state(Induced by mechanical stimulation). The 10 features of heart rate variability (HRV) were extracted from ECG - MeanRRI, SDNN, rMSSD, NN50, pNN50 in the time domain; VLF, LF, HF, Total Power, LF/HF in the frequency domain; and we used the features as input vector of the pattern classifier's artificial neural network (ANN) / support vector machine (SVM) for classifying the presence or absence of the pain. The study results showed that the classifiers using ANN / SVM could classify the presence or absence of the pain with accuracies of 81.58% / 81.84%. The proposed classifiers can be applied to the objective assessment of pain level.

The ultrasonic test is recognized for its significance as a non-destructive testing method to detect volume defects such as porosity and incomplete penetration which reduce strength in the weld zone. This paper illustrates the defect detection in the weld zone of ferritic carbon steel using ultrasonic wave and the evaluation of pattern recognition by chaotic feature extraction using time series signal of detected defects as data. Shown in the time series data were that the time delay was 4 and the embedding dimension was 6 which indicate the geometric dimension of the subject system and the extent of information correlation. Based on fractal dimension and lyapunov exponent in quantitative chaotic feature extraction, feature value of 2.15, 0.47 is presented for porosity and 2.24, 0.51 for incomplete penetration The precision rate of the pattern recognition is enhanced with these values on the total waveform of defect signal in the weld zone. Therefore, we think that the ultrasonic pattern recognition method of weld zone defects of ferritic carbon steel by ultrasonic-chaotic feature extraction proposed in this paper can boost precision rate further than the existing method applying only partial waveform.

In this paper, we confirmed that a speech signal is a chaos signal, and in order to use it as a speaker recognition parameter, analyzed chaos dimension. In order to raise speaker identification and pattern recognition, by making up the strange attractor involving an individual's vocal tract characteristics very well and applying fuzzy membership function to correlation dimension, we proposed fuzzy correlation dimension. By estimating the correlation of the points making up an attractor are limited according space dimension value, fuzzy correlation dimension absorbed the variation of the reference pattern attractor and test pattern attractor. Concerning fuzzy correlation dimension, by estimating the distance according to the average value of discrimination error per each speaker and reference pattern, investigated the validity of speaker recognition parameter.

With the increased attention about healthcare and management of heart diseases, smart healthcare services and related devices have been actively developed recently. R wave is the largest representative signal among ECG signals. R wave detection is very important because it detects QRS pattern and classifies arrhythmia. Several R wave detection algorithms have been proposed with different features, but the remaining problem is their implementation in low-cost portable platforms for real-time applications. In this paper, we propose R wave detection based on optimal threshold and arrhythmia classification through QRS pattern considering complexity in smart healthcare environments. For this purpose, we detected R wave from noise-free ECG signal through the preprocessing method. Also, we classify premature ventricular contraction arrhythmia in realtime through QRS pattern. The performance of R wave detection and premature ventricular contraction arrhythmia classification is evaluated by using 9 record of MIT-BIH arrhythmia database that included over 30 premature ventricular contraction. The achieved scores indicate the average of 98.72% in R wave detection and the rate of 94.28% in PVC classification.
In this study, we have evaluated the effect of amplitude and frequency perturbation of EGG signal during single vowels associated with laryngeal pathology. The normal EGG signal is properly characterized by an autoregressive model which has the optimal order of ninth using the parametric method. This can be analyzed by determining the transfer function. Perturbations in the fundamental pitch and in the peak amplitude of EGG signal derived with a four-electrode system using the modulation/demodulation techniques were investigated for the purpose of developing a decision criteria for the laryngeal function identification.

The transient nature and complex geometries of two-phase gas-liquid flows cause fundamental difficulties when measuring flow velocity using an electromagnetic flowmeter. Recently, a current-sensing flowmeter was introduced to obtain measurements with high temporal resolution (Ahn et al.). In this study, current-sensing flowmeter theory was applied to measure the fast velocity transients in slug flows. The velocity fields of axisymmetric gas-liquid slug flow in a vertical pipe were obtained using Volume-of-Fluid (VOF) method, and the virtual potential distributions for the electrodes of finite size were also computed using the finite volume method for simulating slug flow. The output signal prediction for slug flow was carried out from the velocity and virtual potential (or weight function) fields. The flowmeter was numerically calibrated to obtain the cross-sectional liquid mean velocity at an electrode plane from the predicted output signal. Two calibration parameters are proposed for this procedure: a flow pattern coefficient and a localization parameter. The flow pattern coefficient was defined by the ratio of the liquid resistance between the electrodes for two-phase flow with respect to that for single-phase flow, and the localization parameter was introduced to avoid errors in the flowmeter readings caused by liquid acceleration or deceleration around the electrodes. These parameters were also calculated from the computed velocity and virtual potential fields. The results can be used to obtain the liquid mean velocity from the slug flow signal measured by a current-sensing flowmeter.
In this paper, we implement a signal-detecting electric circuit based LED lighting control system which is essential in NUI technology using EPIC converting surrounding earth electric field disturbance signals to electric potential signals. We used signal-detecting electric circuits which was developed to extract individual signal for each EPIC sensor while conventional EPIC-based development equipments provide limited forms of signals. The signals extracted from our developed circuit contributed to better performance as well as flexiblity in processes of feature extracting stage and pattern recognition stage. We designed a system which can control the brightness and on/off of LED lights with four hand gestures in order to justify its applicability to real application systems. We obtained faster pattern classification speed not only by developing an instruction system, but also by using interface control signals.

This paper presents radiation pattern reconfigurable antenna for Fitbit Flex wristband which detects vital signal. Also, the paper presents Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) from the loop-dipole radiation pattern reconfigurable antenna based on the position of human body. The proposed loop-dipole radiation pattern reconfigurable antenna produces two opposite side direction radiation pattern using two RF switches. The resonant frequency of the radiation pattern reconfigurable antenna is Bluetooth communication bandwidth (2.4 - 2.485 GHz) and the maximum gain of the proposed antenna is 1.96 dBi. The proposed antenna satisfied the standard SAR value of 1.6 W/kg in 1 g tissue of the human body when the Bluetooth communication input average power of 0.04 W is excited to five parts of human body (head, chest, stomach, back, wrist). The maximum SAR value of in this simulation is presented in the part of head.
