  • In this paper, we propose a fast block matching algorithm of motion estimation using early detection of optimal candidate with high priority and a threshold. Even though so many fast algorithms for motion estimation have been published to reduce computational reduction full search algorithm, still so many works to improve performance of motion estimation are being reported. The proposed algorithm calculates block matching error for each candidate with high priority from previous partial matching error. The proposed algorithm can be applied additionally to most of conventional fast block matching algorithms for more speed up. By doing that, we can find the minimum error point early and get speed up by reducing unnecessary computations of impossible candidates. The proposed algorithm uses smaller computation than conventional fast full search algorithms with the same prediction quality as the full search algorithm. Experimental results shows that the proposed algorithm reduces 30~70% compared with the computation of the PDE and full search algorithms without any degradation of prediction quality and further reduces it with other fast lossy algorithms.

  • Conformal coating is a technology that protects PCB(Printed Circuit Board) and minimizes PCB failures. Since the defects in the coating are linked to failure of the PCB, the coating surface is examined for air bubbles to satisfy the successful conditions of the conformal coating. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for detecting problematic bubbles in high-risk groups by applying image signal processing. The algorithm consists of finding candidates for problematic bubbles and verifying candidates. Bubbles do not appear in visible light images, but can be visually distinguished from UV(Ultra Violet) light sources. In particular the center of the problematic bubble is dark in brightness and the border is high in brightness. In the paper, these brightness characteristics are called valley and mountain features, and the areas where both characteristics appear at the same time are candidates for problematic bubbles. However, it is necessary to verify candidates because there may be candidates who are not bubbles. In the candidate verification phase, we used convolutional neural network models, and ResNet performed best compared to other models. The algorithms presented in this paper showed the performance of precision 0.805, recall 0.763, and f1-score 0.767, and these results show sufficient potential for bubble test automation.

  • A new transmit antenna selection and shuffling($AS^2$) method for spatially correlated double space time transmit diversity(DSTTD) systems is proposed. The proposed method allows dumb antennas and the superposition of multiple signals at the same transmit antenna, whereas the conventional methods consider the antenna shuffling(AS) only. According to the simulation result, the proposed method provides a 1.8 dB signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) gain over the conventional methods for spatially correlated transmit antennas. Although the number of candidates for $AS^2$ is much higher than that of AS, it is found that the number of candidates for $AS^2$ can be reduced to 36 by using the characteristics and properties of preprocessing matrices, and among them, only 6 candidates are almost always chosen. Next, we empirically compare the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the proposed method with the conventional spatial multiplexing(SM) technique with antenna selection. Simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms the SM technique.

  • The jamming countermeasures in GNSS includes anti-jamming technique and jammer localization technique. In both techniques, direction of jamming signal is important and generally the MUSIC algorithm is used to find the direction of jamming signal. The MUSIC is super-resolution algorithm for detecting incident direction of signal. But, the search time of MUSIC algorithm is too long because all candidates of incidence angle are searched. This paper proposes the new method that has less computational burdens and therefore faster than the conventional MUSIC algorithm. The proposed method improves performance speed by reducing unnecessary calculations. In the proposed method, the cost function of conventional MUSIC algorithm is decomposed into the sum of squares and if the partial sum of cost function is larger than the minimum cost function so far, then the candidate is rejected and next candidates are searched. If the computed cost function is less than the minimum cost function so far, the minimum cost function so far is replaced with newly computed value. The performance of the proposed method was compared with the conventional MUSIC algorithm using the simulation. The accuracy of the estimaed direction of jamming signal was same as the conventional MUSIC while the search speed of the proposed method was 1.15 times faster than the conventional MUSIC.

  • In general, currently developed ECG(electrocardiogram) based biometrics approaches are not suitable for real market applications since they require high cost ECG monitoring device and their measurement methods showed poor usability. In this paper, we developed lead I signal based biometrics system using special purpose ECG measurement hardware. To guarantee signal quality for biometrics from various signal measurement environment in our ordinary life, several filters are applied. In addition, to enhance usability, only two skin on electrodes without reference point are used for measurement. Lead I signals of seventeen candidates are measured from developed hardware and features are extracted. Extracted features are applied to support vector machine (SVM) pattern classifier for biometrics, and the experimental results showed 98.59% of sensitivity (SN) and 97.21% of accuracy (ACC). Compare to conventional ECG biometrics approaches, proposed system showed enhanced usability with low-cost measurement hardware.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel soft output generation method for spatially multiplexed MIMO systems. The receiver complexity of spatially mutiplexed MIMO system is in proportion to the number of candidate vectors. The ML signal detection method considers all possible vectors as candidates, thereby achieving a high performance, however, its complexity is very high. Low complexity receiver techniques involving a small number of candidate vectors, provide soft output values of low reliability. In this paper, we propose a method to improve reliability of the soft output values obtained using a small number of candidate vectors.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm to track multi-small targets in infrared image sequences in case of dissipation or creation of targets by using the background estimation filter, Kahnan filter and mean shift algorithm. We detect target candidates in a still image by subtracting an original image from an background estimation image, and we track multi-targets by using Kahnan filter and target selection. At last, we adjust specific position of targets by using mean shift algorithm In the experiments, we compare the performance of each background estimation filters, and verified that proposed algorithm exhibits better performance compared to classic methods.

  • Light signals constitute major factors in regulating gene expression and morphogenesis in plants and fungi. Phytochrome A and B were well characterized red and far-red light receptors in plants. Red light signals increased the phosphorylation of 18 kDa protein, which was identified to be nucleoside diphosphate (NDP) kinase. The NDP kinase catalyzed autophosphorylation and had a protein kinase activity similar to MAP (mitogen activated protein) kinase. As candidates for blue light photoreceptors, cDNAs for CRY1 and CRY2 were isolated. The N-teminal regions of these proteins showed a high hornology to DNA photolyase. The 120 kDa protein first detected in Pisurn sativurn, which showed blue light induced phosphorylation was also detected in Arabidopsis thaliana. The 120 kDa protein was encoded by the nphl gene, which regulated positive phototropism of the plant. In Neurospora crassa, blue light irradiation of the membrane fraction prepared from roycelia stimulated the phosphorylation of the 15 kDa protein, which was also identifmd to be an NDP kinase. Recent progress in understanding early events in light signal transduction mainly in Pisum sativum Alaska, Arabidopsis thaliana and Neurospora crassa was summarized.

  • In this paper, we proposed a method for extracting predominant melody of polyphonic music based on harmonic structure. Harmonic structure is an important feature parameter of monophonic signal that has spectral peaks at the integer multiples of its fundamental frequency. We extract all fundamental frequency candidates contained in the polyphonic signal by verifying the required condition of harmonic structure. Then, we combine those harmonic peaks corresponding to each extracted fundamental frequency and assign a rank to each after calculating its harmonic average energy. We run pitch tracking based on the rank of extracted fundamental frequency and continuity of fundamental frequency, and determine the predominant melody. For the query by singing/humming (QbSH) task, we proposed Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) based matching engine. Our system reduces false alarm by combining the distances of multiple DTW processes. To improve the performance, we introduced the asymmetric sense, pitch level compensation, and distance intransitiveness to DTW algorithm.

  • Bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) typically contain multiple immunogenic molecules that include antigenic proteins, making them good candidates for vaccine development. In animal models, vaccination with OMVs has been shown to confer protective immune responses against many bacterial diseases. It is possible to genetically introduce heterologous protein antigens to the bacterial host that can then be produced and relocated to reside within the OMVs by means of the host secretion mechanisms. Accordingly, in this study we sought to develop a novel platform for recombinant OMV (rOMV) production in the widely used bacterial expression host species, Escherichia coli. Three different lipoprotein signal peptides including their Lol signals and tether sequences-from Neisseria meningitidis fHbp, Leptospira interrogans LipL32, and Campylobactor jejuni JlpA-were combined upstream to the GFPmut2 model protein, resulting in three recombinant plasmids. Pilot expression studies showed that the fusion between fHbp and GFPmut2 was the only promising construct; therefore, we used this construct for large-scale expression. After inducing recombinant protein expression, the nanovesicles were harvested from cell-free culture media by ultrafiltration and ultracentrifugation. Transmission electron microscopy demonstrated that the obtained rOMVs were closed, circular single-membrane particles, 20-200 nm in size. Western blotting confirmed the presence of GFPmut2 in the isolated vesicles. Collectively, although this is a non-optimized, proof-of-concept study, it demonstrates the feasibility of this platform in directing target proteins into the vesicles for OMV-based vaccine development.
