  • Silibinin is a polyphenolic flavonoid compound isolated from milk thistle (Silybum marianum), with known hepatoprotective, anticarcinogenic, and antioxidant effects. Herein, we show that silibinin inhibits receptor activator of $NF-{\kappa}B$ ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclastogenesis from RAW264.7 cells as well as from bone marrow-derived monocyte/macrophage cells in a dose-dependent manner. Silibinin has no effect on the expression of RANKL or the soluble RANKL decoy receptor osteoprotegerin (OPG) in osteoblasts. However, we demonstrate that silibinin can block the activation of $NF-{\kappa}B$, c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), p38 mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase, and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) in osteoclast precursors in response to RANKL. Furthermore, silibinin attenuates the induction of nuclear factor of activated T cells (NFAT) c1 and osteoclast-associated receptor (OSCAR) expression during RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis. We demonstrate that silibinin can inhibit $TNF-{\alpha}$-induced osteoclastogenesis as well as the expression of NFATc1 and OSCAR. Taken together, our results indicate that silibinin has the potential to inhibit osteoclast formation by attenuating the downstream signaling cascades associated with RANKL and $TNF-{\alpha}$.

  • Adaptive MIMO-OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system adaptively changes modulation scheme depending on feedback channel state information (CSI). The CSI feedback channel which is the reverse link channel has multiple symbol delays including propagation delay, processing delay, frame delay, etc. The unreliable CSI due to feedback delay degrades adaptive modulation system performance. This paper compares the MSE and data capacity with respect to delay and channel signal to noise ratio for the two multi-step channel prediction schemes, CTSBP and BTSBP, such that robust adaptive SISO-OFDM/MIMO-OFDM is designed over severe mobile multipath channel conditions. This paper presents an interpolation method to reduce feedback overhead for adaptive MIMO-OFDM and shows MSE with respect to interpolation interval.

  • In this paper, we implement the development platform of multichannel digital hearing aid algorithm using Simulink provided by Matlab. The digital hearing aids are considered medical devices designed to compensate for hearing loss, they need to be correctly selected, to help a person who has difficulty in hearing. The development platform that implemented in this paper, includes WOLA filterbank for analysis/synthesis of input signal, Wide dynamic range compression for hearing loss compensation and adaptive filter for feedback cancellation. Using the development platform, algorithm parameters for each block can be set depending on the hearing aid user. Thus it is possible to test the algorithm before the machine language. As a result, the time for algorithm development can be saved and performance and computational complexity can be optimized.

  • GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System) is now being widely used in both civilian and military applications where accurate positioning and timing information are required and it is considered as a representative convergence technique in IT-Military application techniques. However, GNSS has low sensitivity level of GNSS receivers and is vulnerable to jamming signal, since the signals come from the satellite located at approximately 20,000 Km above the earth. The studies for the anti-jamming techniques in military applications have been passively performed in the domestic, because the information related GNSS are dependent on the countries that have GNSS. In this paper, we show the effect of jammer ERP by analyzing the link budget of GPS J/S power as a function of distance between jammer and receiver. Also, we categorize the anti-jamming techniques based on the functional block diagram of GNSS receiver structure and analyze the recent anti-jamming GNSS products and their technologies developed in domestic and foreign countries.

  • The automatic generation of circuit diagrams has been practically used in the HDL based design for decades. Nevertheless, the diagrams became too complicated for the designers to identify the signal flows in the RTL and system level designs. In this paper, we propose four techniques to enhance the roadability of the complicated diagrams. They include i) the transformation of repetitive instances and terminals into vector forms, ii) an improved loop breaking algorithm, iii) a flat tap which simplifies the two level bus ripping structure that is required for the connection of a bundle net to multiple buses, and iv) the identification of block strings, and alignment of the corresponding blocks. Towards validating the proposed techniques, the diagrams of an industrial strength design m generated. The complexity of the diagrams has been reduced by up to $90\%$ in terms of the number of wires, the aggregate wire length, and the area.

  • This paper describes a low voltage swing bus driver using FCSR(Feedback Control Swing voltage Reduction) which can control bus swing voltage within a few hundred of mV. It is proposed to reduce power consumption in On-chip interface, especially for MDL(Merged DRAM Logic) architecture wihich has wide and large capacitance bus. FCSR operates on differential signal dual-line bus and on precharged bus with block controlling fuction. We modeled driver and bus to scale driver size automatically when bus environment is variant. We also modeled coupling capacitance noise(crosstalk) of neighborhood lines which operate on odd mode with parallel current source to analysis crosstalk effect in the victim-line according as voltage transition in the aggressor-line and environment in the victim-line. We built a test chip which was designed to swing 600mV in bus, shows 70Mhz operation at 3.3V, using Hyundai 0.8um CMOS technology. FCSR operate with 250Mhz at 3.3V by Hspice simulation.

  • It has not been performed to inspect the underclad cracking of nuclear pressure vessel in Korea since there is no code requirements for inspection. However, underclad cracks in nuclear pressure vessels have been reported since the early 1970s. The aim of this experiment is to find the suitable ultrasonic inspection techniques for underclad cracking. The various transducers, for example $70_{\backprime}$ refracted longitudinal wave, 50/70 multibeam, SLIC-40, SLIC-50, are used in this investigation. Experiments on prescreening blocks and a demonstration block under the same condition as in the nuclear power pressure vessels show that the $70_{\backprime}$ refracted longitudinal wave method is the best one for the length evaluation and also gives a good signal pattern for detection of the crack, while the 50/70 multibeam transducer is more effective for the detection of underclad cracking. On the other hand, the SLIC-50 transducer using M-SPOT(Satellite Pulse Observation Technique) and M-PET (Peak-Echo Technique) methods is the most effective one for the depth of underclad crack estimation.

  • This paper presents a single antenna radar sensor with a Ku-band radar transceiver IC realized by 130 nm CMOS processes. In this radar receiver, sensitivity time control using a DC offset cancellation feedback loop is employed to achieve a constant SNR, irrespective of distance. In addition, the receiver RF block has gain control to adjust high dynamic range. The RF output power is 9 dBm and the full chain gain of the Rx is 82 dB. To reduce the direct-coupled Tx signal to the Rx in a single antenna radar, a stub-tuned hybrid coupler is adopted instead of a bulky circulator. The maximum measured distance between the horn antenna and a metal plate target is 6 m.

  • EGFR has been intensively investigated as a target to block the signal transduction pathway which stimulates cancer growth and metastasis. Studies about structure-activity relationship for tricyclic azepine derivatives were performed with topomer-CoMFA. The derived topomer-CoMFA model with steric and electrostatic field parameters based on fragment units gave reasonable statistics ($q^2$=0.561, $r^2$=0.679). The model explains why a halogen atom at the meta position of aniline is important to increases inhibitory activity. This comes from an electrostatically negative groups are favored near this region. The model also shows that there are sterically favored regions around methoxy group extended from oxazepine derivatives. The findings about steric and electrostatic effects can be utilized for designing new inhibitors.
