Droop Control Scheme of a Three-phase Inverter for Grid Voltage Unbalance Compensation

  • The stability of a grid-connected system (GCS) has become a critical issue with the increasing utilization of renewable energy sources. Under grid faults, however, a grid-connected inverter cannot work efficiently by using only the traditional droop control. In addition, the unbalance factor of voltage/current at the common coupling point (PCC) may increase significantly. To ensure the stable operation of a GCS under grid faults, the capability to compensate for grid imbalance should be integrated. To solve the aforementioned problem, an improved voltage-type grid-connected control strategy is proposed in this study. A negative sequence conductance compensation loop based on a positive sequence power droop control is added to maintain PCC voltage balance and reduce grid current imbalance, thereby meeting PCC power quality requirements. Moreover, a stable analysis is presented based on the small signal model. Simulation and experimental results verify the aforementioned expectations, and consequently, the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

  • This Paper described the hish performance position control for elevator using induction motor and driver. In this paper, the suitable Motor specifications for elevator drive are briefly discussed and high accuracy position control for both kinds of control method is analysed considering the parameter variation in the primary and secondary resistances. Since the pre-identified values of the motor constants are used to determine the control inputs, the performance degradation is caused by the parameter variation such as in the motor resistance. Particularly, the value of secondary resistance is considered significant because the control gain to determine the slip frequency is heavily dependent on that. The new proposed method uses on special small input signal for the parameter indentification and is expected to have the high accuracy position.

  • This paper deals with operational characteristic analysis of a single-phase PCS (Power Conditioning System) for PV (Photovoltaic) power generation system with AF (Active Filter) function. The theory of dq transformation has been applied to the control strategy of a single-phase PV power generation system to implement the AF function. Application of the virtual two-phase using phase-shift makes it possible to use the dq theory for the single-phase PV power generation system. The authors are sure that the proposed system is a very useful to compensate harmonics caused by nonlinear loads in a single-phase utility system. In this paper, not only a theoretical aspect of the single-phase PV-AF system is discussed, but also the DSP (Digital Signal Processor) based experiment results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the single-phase PV-AF system.

Design Development of Street Furniture for Improvement of Urban Environment - Focusing on "Y" District, a part of the Seoul Design Street Project -

  • Under 'The Design Street' Project, one of the urban environment improvement projects of Seoul, the facilities on the street have been greatly varied in terms of design. In addition, the municipal authority has pushed each district to develop its own identity based on the integrated design of the city. This study was aimed to propose a design which could solve the current problem in street furniture in terms of environmental improvement through an analysis on current street conditions in "Y" District as a part of Seoul Design Street Project. It has attempted to propose 11 street furnitures based on the basic strategy of 'Soft City' which has been promoted by Seoul City in accordance with the Seoul Public Facility Guidelines as 1. Airy Design, 2. Integrated Design, 3. Collaborative Design and 4. Sustainable Design. Among them, for the total design in Seoul six facilities - kiosk, manhole, traffic signal controller, public phone, road sign and waste receptacle were proposed by Seoul City have been accepted. For local differentiation, on the contrary, five items - planter bench, bollard, lifter, bike rack and fence have been newly designed and proposed. Furthermore, it is essential to carry out systematic supervision and continuous management on the detail design and construction of current regional design development projects.

  • Robust voice recognition (RVR) is essential for a robot to communicate with people. One of the main problems with RVR for robots is that robots inevitably real environment noises. The noise is captured with strong power by the microphones, because the noise sources are closed to the microphones. The signal-to-noise ratio of input voice becomes quite low. However, it is possible to estimate the noise by using information on the robot's own motions and postures, because a type of motion/gesture produces almost the same pattern of noise every time it is performed. In this paper, we propose an RVR system which can robustly recognize voice by adults and children in noisy environments. We evaluate the RVR system in a communication robot placed in a real noisy environment. Voice is captured using a wireless microphone. Navigation Strategy is shown Obstacle detection and local map, Design of Goal-seeking Behavior and Avoidance Behavior, Fuzzy Decision Maker and Lower level controller. The final hypothesis is selected based on posterior probability. We then select the task in the motion task library. In the motion control, we also integrate the obstacle avoidance control using ultrasonic sensors. Those are powerful for detecting obstacle with simple algorithm.

  • When traveling on real road network, it generally takes less travel time in a near straight path than a zig-zaged path with same source and destination. In order to making a left(right/u) turn, the delay should be required to decrease the speed. The traffic signal waiting time of left(right/u) turn is probably longer than straight driving. In this paper, we revise the previous hierarchical path finding algorithm to reduce the number of turns. The algorithm proposed in this paper complied with a hierarchical $A^*$ algorithm, but has a distinct strategy for edge weight. We define an edge that makes a turn as a turn-edge and give the turn-edge lower weight to maintain the straightness of the whole path.

  • Broadcast nature of wireless medium and path-loss reduction create a favourable condition for collaborative communications (CC) among single-antenna users to gain the powerful benefits of multi-antenna system without the demand for physical arrays. This paper proposes a CC strategy adapting to the propagation environment changes by optimizing the transmit signal amplification factors to simplify the structure of maximum likelihood (ML) detector and to obtain the minimum error probability as well. The closed-form BER expression was also derived and compared to the simulation results to evaluate the performance of the suggested solution. A variety of numerical results revealed the cooperation significantly outperforms non-cooperative counterpart under flat Rayleigh fading channel plus AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise).

  • The dominant heating system used in Korean residential apartment buildings is a hydronic radiant floor heating system, known as the Ondol system. The most common control strategy applied to this traditional hydronic radiant system is a simple on-off control that intermittently supplies "hot water of a fixed temperature" at a "constant flow rate" to each room. However, the current problems with the aforementioned control are as follows: (1) since the simple on-off control is usually based on a one point measured temperature (a signal from a thermostat installed in a living room) in each dwelling unit, heating energy use for unoccupied rooms as well as a difference in temperatures between spaces (master bedroom, living room, bedroom1, bedroom2) can occur occasionally. (2) the most widely used residential water splitter has static valves, and is thus not able to change the flow rate to each room depending on the space heating load. In other words, the ratio of flow rates to rooms is fixed after construction, resulting in over- or under-heating and an improper use of energy. The aim of this paper is therefore to investigate the differences in the system's performance between control strategies in terms of the flow rate control and sensor location. It is shown that energy savings of control strategies are strongly influenced by occupant schedule.

  • Together with the GPS-based approach, geolocation through mobile communication networks is a key technology for location-based service. Since the Mobile WiMAX system is considered as a candidate for fourth-generation mobile systems, it is important to investigate its location capability. The geolocation of Mobile WiMAX can be realized when the preamble symbols in the down-link channel are appropriately used for a TDOA (Time-Difference-of-Arrival) approach. However, the cellular structure of Mobile WiMAX inevitably generates co-channel interference, and it is difficult for the mobile terminal to acquire distance measurements from multiple base stations. Therefore, for geolocation via multilateration using the Mobile WiMAX network, it is very important to increase hearability. This paper proposes a geolocation method for Mobile WiMAX which employs interference cancellation and preamble signal overlapping for the enhancement of hearability. A novel interference cancellation strategy for complex-valued Mobile WiMAX signals is presented which has an iterative structure. Simulation results show that the proposed geolocation method provides the user's position with an accuracy of less than 20 m through the Mobile WiMAX cellular network if there is no multi-path or NLOS (None-Line-of-Sight).

HSA-based HMM Optimization Method for Analyzing EEG Pattern of Motor Imagery (운동심상 EEG 패턴분석을 위한 HSA 기반의 HMM 최적화 방법)

  • HMMs (Hidden Markov Models) are widely used for biological signal, such as EEG (electroencephalogram) sequence, analysis because of their ability to incorporate sequential information in their structure. A recent trends of research are going after the biological interpretable HMMs, and we need to control the complexity of the HMM so that it has good generalization performance. So, an automatic means of optimizing the structure of HMMs would be highly desirable. In this paper, we described a procedure of classification of motor imagery EEG signals using HMM. The motor imagery related EEG signals recorded from subjects performing left, right hand and foots motor imagery. And the proposed a method that was focus on the validation of the HSA (Harmony Search Algorithm) based optimization for HMM. Harmony search algorithm is sufficiently adaptable to allow incorporation of other techniques. A HMM training strategy using HSA is proposed, and it is tested on finding optimized structure for the pattern recognition of EEG sequence. The proposed HSA-HMM can performs global searching without initial parameter setting, local optima, and solution divergence.
