  • Upon introducing satellite communication system to Korea, one of the important problems to cope with is the effect from the probable intentional interference I.e. jamming. In this paper we have investigated how much the performance of ordinary PSK signal and Directed Sequence Spread Spectrum PSK signal degrade by the effect of jamming in the satellite communication system. In analysis we have consider the M ary PSK signal and the liniter type nonlinear satellite transponder in an environment of uplink tone or noise jamming plus Gaussian noise and downlink Gaussian noise. Using the derived error rate equation we have evaluated the error performance of BPSK and QPSK systems and compared this with that of DS BPSK system. Form the results, we know that the nonlinear satellite system is degraded more severely by the effect of noise jamming than tone jamming and the effect of tone jamming on the error rate performance can be reduced more remarkably by increasing the process gain in DS BPSK system rather than increasing carrier to jamming noise power ratio in conventional BPSK system.

  • A repeat-back jamming signal is an intentionally re-broadcasted GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) interference. In this paper, a novel repeat-back jamming detection scheme is proposed. The proposed scheme uses a combined pseudo random noise signal (C-PRN) and is available for a generic GNSS receiver with a single antenna. The C-PRN signal is made by combining several received pseudo random noise signals that had been transmitted from the visible GNSS satellites. Through a Monte-Carlo simulation, the detection probability of a repeat-back jamming signal detected with the proposed scheme is presented.

  • Because GPS signals are weak, system jamming is a real and present danger. This can happen when the receiver is subjected to intentional or unintentional interference by a transmitter. If the jamming signal is strong enough, the receiver can be operated to take corrective action automatically. Current methods to protect GPS receiver from jamming condition are based on spatial filtering. In this paper, the beamforming as referred to in signal processing technique used in arrays for directional signal reception was suggested and analyzed for anti-jamming. In order to change the directionality of the array when receiving a jamming signal, a beamformer can control the signal at each sensor. Therefore, cutoff angle ${\theta}$ was measured in the opposite direction of the jammer. GPS signals are only processed when the antenna element is within inside the cutoff angle. As a result, GPS positioning can be used in condition under cutoff angle $30^{\circ}$.

  • In this paper, a new technique and cost function which can be to classify jamming signal and target signal from the spectral distribution of received signal in order to minimize the main beam distortion of target signal and to form nulls in the direction of jamming signal in array antennas of single port system is proposed. The proposed cost function is applied to the adaptive algorithm which has the fast convergence and stable nulling performance through the combination of the PSO(Particle Swam Optimization) algorithm and the gradient-based perturbation algorithm, which shows stable nulling performance adaptively even under the moving jamming signal where the incident direction of the jamming signal is changing with time.

  • Incalculable damage will be incurred if the national infrastructure that provides services using GNSS signals is affected by jamming signals. To prevent this, a nationwide GNSS jamming monitoring network is necessary to detect the occurrence of a jamming signal, determine the type, and properly localize the jammer position. In this paper, 2-D images for live GNSS signals were generated to verify the environment of the jamming signals through the presence and type of GNSS jamming signals at K-City, which are the test beds for self-driving vehicles, and Incheon International Airport. The analysis was also conducted to detect the occurrence of the jamming signals, determine the type, and measure the jamming signal strength. As a result, a CWI type of jamming signal was detected in L2 band at K-City and in L5 band at Incheon International Airport.

  • When an enemy platforms transmit electronic jamming or tracking interference signal to a friendly ship's radar, the radar have to avoid the jamming and to track targets continually without losing the targets with the electronic protection techniques. Electronic protection is an essential key for a platform to survive in electronic warfare, for this purpose, jamming simulator was developed to provide electronic warfare environments for the test and evaluate the effectiveness of radar's electronic protection techniques. Jamming simulator has ability to generate a variety of deception and noise jamming signals using the DRFM which minimize phase distortions of 1GHz broadband radar signal with the phase sampling method. This paper presents the design contents of the jamming simulator to process the analysis of broadband radar signal and generate jamming signal, also proposes the algorithms of the deception and noise jamming and verifies the effectiveness of the simulator by field trial.

  • As a dependency on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) becomes increase in various applications, its reliability has been very important. However, in South Korea, Global Positioning System (GPS) jamming incident happened four times since 2010. GNSS signal is so weak that it is highly susceptible to all types of the jamming. GNSS jamming can cause serious damage in the safety-critical applications based on the GNSS. In this paper, we present the GNSS jamming signal propagation prediction simulator based on ITU-R P.1546 model. This simulator is developed for preventing or reducing the damage from the GNSS jamming attack by predicting the jamming propagation strength based on the geographical information in Korean peninsula.

  • This study discusses the multiple knife-edge diffraction loss with the receiver and jammer located in the Seoul metropolitan northwestern region. The considered positioning and jamming signals are the GPS L1 C/A signal and several jamming signals such as the wideband Gaussian noise, matched spectrum, and continuous wave signals. To calculate the accurate diffraction effects, the 3-dimensional topography data at the Seoul metropolitan northwestern region was used.

  • Communication is very important in warfare. Dispatch riders were used in ancient warfare, but communication system is used in modern warfare, as the advancement of communication equipments. In order to weaken enemy military strength, communication jamming signal disrupts enemy communication systems. Tone jamming is one of the common communication jamming techniques. Tone jamming is that several tones are placed in the spectrum for neutralizing the enemy's radio communication receivers. In this paper, we develop multitone jamming signal controlled tone number up to 10 tones and tone interval between tones using DDS(Direct Digital Synthesizer) core and FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Arry) of Xilinx Inc. and show the jamming signal output.

  • In order to increase the robustness of the uplink for UAS(Unmanned Aerial System), we propose a jamming signal rejection algorithm. In the UAS datalink system, DSSS (direct sequence spread spectrum) is used to reduce the radio noise or jamming signal. In general, jamming signals below the spreading gain are recoverable but the signals beyond the spreading gain can not be recovered. In this paper, these jamming signals beyond spreading gain are detected using the threshold detector in the spectrum area then, generate the estimated signals from the sine wave generator. Finally, we obtain the desired signal to remove jamming signals from the received signals. The proposed scheme can eliminate jamming signals while minimizing the hardware complexity and the original signal loss.
