  • For efficient spectral utilization of satellite channels, a shared band transmission technique is introduced in this paper. A satellite transmits multiple received signals from a gateway and terminal in the common frequency band by superimposing the signals. To improve the power efficiency as well as the spectral efficiency, a travelling wave tube amplifier in the satellite should operate near the saturation level. This causes a nonlinear distortion of the superimposed transmit signal. Without mitigating this nonlinear effect, the self-interference cannot be properly cancelled and the desired signal cannot be demodulated. Therefore, an adaptive compensation scheme for nonlinearity is herein proposed with the proper operation scenario. It is shown through simulations that the proposed shared band transmission approach with nonlinear compensation and self-interference cancellation can achieve an acceptable system performance in nonlinear satellite channels.

  • This paper presents and analyzes laboratory test results of Interference Cancellation Digital On Channel Regenerative Repeater(IC-DOCR) to broadcast digital television signals in the Advanced Television Systems Committee(ATSC) transmission systems using single frequency networks(SFN). IC-DOCR laboratory test is classified to receiver test, transmitter test, and feedback interference cancellation test. The receiver part includes random noise, single echo, multi-path ensembles, and adjacent channel interference test. The transmitter part includes out-of channel emission, equality of transmitting signal, and phase noise test. By the laboratory test, the receiver part of the IC-DOCR eliminates 28dB of feedback signal higher than the received signal and has 17.8dB at TOV(Threshold Of Visibility) under random noise environment. Also, the transmitter part satisfies the specification of US FCC(Federal Communications Commission) as well as maintains good output signal quality for guaranteeing more than SNR 30dB.

  • In this paper, we studied an algorithm for estimating a desired target by removing noise and interference in a wireless communication environment. When an information signal with a mixture noise and interference receive a receiver, noise and interference signals must be removed to accurately estimate a desired target. In order to divide the received signal region into two spatial, a power spectrum is obtained by analyzing a correlation matrix, covariance, eigen vector, and eigen value. The proposed spectrum is an algorithm that can remove noise and interference, and analyzes the existing algorithm and target estimation performance through simulation. As a result of simulation, the target estimation resolution of existing algorithm is more than 10°, but the resolution of the proposed algorithm is less than 10°. The proposed algorithm has improved the resolution of about 5° than the exiting algorithm. The proposed algorithm proved that the target estimation accuracy and resolution are superior to the existing algorithm.

  • Results of the numerical simulation and experimental data analysis for identification of mode cutoff frequency and estimation of sound speed of seabed from the spectrum of acoustic signal received at fixed source-receiver range are presented. Model simulations for Pekeris waveguide show that the frequency-dependent propagation loss and interference pattern are closely related to mode cutoff frequencies and it could be possible to the identify them from the changes of interference pattern. The concept considered at numerical simulations is applied to signals acquired at sea test. Cutoff frequency and sound speed of seabed are estimated from the interference pattern of measured signal. Propagation loss predicted using the estimated sound speed of seabed as model input parameter shows similar estimation result compared to propagation loss derived from measured data.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the performance of MB-OFDM UWB system when the interference signal that can be WIMAX signal or 4 G system signal is received by detection limit of -80 dBm/MHz proposed in Korea for DAA(Detect And Avoid) to permit UWB in $3.1{\sim}4.8$ GHz. MB-OFDM UWB system supports two transmission modes; one is TFI(Time frequency Interleaving) mode that transmits OFDM symbols using different carrier frequency from symbol to symbol according to Time Frequency(TF) codes, the other is FFI(Fixed Frequency Interleaving) mode that transmits OFDM symbols using a specific carrier frequency. In this paper, we considered the TX average power and the synchronization structure to reflect the effect of frequency hopping according to TFC. Interference analysis results show that the WiMAX system is fenced thoroughly from UWB interference in domestic DAA regulation, but the performance of MB-OFDM UWB system is degraded seriously by an interference signal with the DAA detection limit even in frequency Hopping mode that can get frequency diversity effect.

  • In this paper we consider technological requirements to broadcast digital television signals using single frequency networks(SFN) in the Advanced Television Systems Committee(ATSC) transmission systems and propose Interference Cancellation Digital On Channel Regenerative Repeater(IC-DOCR) thar overcomes the limitation of EDOCR(Equalization Digital On Channel Repeater) proposed by ETRI. The proposed IC-DOCR maintains the benefits of EDOCR that have good output signal quality removing multi-path, additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN). In additional, since the Interference Cancellation algorithm using the 8-VSB symbol demodulation of received signal removes the Interference of feedback signal, IC-DOCR improve the weakness of EDOCR that have low isolation between receive and transmit antenna so that can overcome the limitation of output signal power. we did analysis and verification of the proposed system performance using computational simulation.

  • This paper has investigated and discussed the effects of multiple PSK signals upon an wideband FM signal in an intersystem interference environment between analog and digital radios. Using the derived approximate equation for the output haseband interference noise, the signal-to-interference noise power ratio(SNR) in the top channel baseband signal has been numerically calculated. The results are plotted in graphs as the functions of carrier-to-noise ratio(CNR), carrier-to interfer power ratio(CIR), and normalized carrier separation. From the results in this paper, one can know some optimu, or suitable, operating conditions(frequency allocation, bandwidth, and power, etc.) for an FM channel in the intersystemn interferences from digital PSK channels.

  • Human body communication (HBC) is being recognized as a new communication technology for mobile and wearable devices in a body area network (BAN). This paper presents co-channel interference experienced by HBC supporting the physical layer in the IEEE 802.15.6 BAN standard. To analyze the co-channel interference, a co-channel interference model is introduced, and space-domain and time-domain parameters representing an interference environment are generated using the co-channel interference model. A new signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) parameter depending on the peak amplitudes of the data signals causing co-channel interference is defined; co-channel interference can be easily analyzed and modelled using the newly defined SIR. The BER degradation model derived using the co-channel interference model and SIR in this paper can be effectively used to estimate the performance.

  • Frequency spectrum using the conventional Fourier analysis gives adequate information about the dynamic characteristics of the slider air bearing for the linear and stationary cases. The intermittent contacts for the extremely low flying height, however, generate nonlinear and nonstationary vibration at the instant of contact. Nonlinear dynamic model should be developed to simulate the impulse response of the air bearing during slider-disk contact. Time-frequency analysis is widely used to investigate the nonstationary signal. Several time-frequency analysis methods are employed and compared for the slider vibration signal caused by the impact against an artificially induced scratch on the disk. The representative Wigner-Ville distribution leads to the severe interference problem by cross terms even though it gives good resolution both in time and frequency. The smoothing process improves the interference problem at the expense of resolution. In order to get the results with good resolution and little interference, the reassignment method is proposed. Among others the reassigned Gabor spectrogram shows the best resolution and readability with negligible interference.
