  • The weld seam tracking sensor is indispensable to improve the flexibility of automatic arc welding systems. Among the position sensing methods available, a laser displacement sensor is one of the most prevailing methods. In this study, a laser displacement sensor was examined on detecting the weld seam of lap joints in sheet metal arc welding. The output signal of the laser displacement sensor may ontain severe fluctuation from the effect of arc light, spatters, fume, etc. So a variety of signal processing methods was applied to smooth the output signal of the sensor. And then the weld joint was determined by using the central difference method. It was revealed that the quadratic mean method plays an important role in detecting the weld seam during welding especially.

  • This paper deals with an application of Teager Energy Operator (TEO) and Energy Separation Algorithm(ESA) to detect and determine various voltage waveform distortions like harmonics, inter-harmonics and frequency variation. Because the TEO and DESA algorithm was initially proposed for speech or communication analysis, its applications are limited to some types of waveform in the power quality analysis area. For example, an undistorted voltage signal is similar with a pure sinusoid. A voltage fluctuation is very similar with an amplitude-modulated signal, from the viewpoint of signal theory. And a continuous frequency variation is similar with a frequency-modulated signal, which is also known as a chirp signal. This paper is written to show that the TEO and DESA algorithm can be used for detecting occurrences of the representative waveform distortions and determining their instantaneous information of amplitude and frequency.

  • In this paper, the image modelling of road's lane markings is established using view frustum(VF) modeling. This algorithm also involve the real time processing of the 3D position coordinate and the distance data from the camera to the points on the 3D world coordinate by the camera calibration. In order to reduce their measurement error, an useful algorithm for which analyze the geometric variations clue to traveling vehicle's fluctuation using VF model is proposed. In experiments, without correction, for instance, the $0.4^{\circ}$ of pitching rotation gives the error of $0.4^{\sim}0.6m$ at the distance of 10m, but the more far distance cause exponentially the more error. We confirmed that this algorithm can be reduced less than 0.1m of error at the same condition.

  • In recent years, multifractal-based analysis methods have been widely applied in engineering. Among these methods, multifractal detrended cross-correlation analysis (MFDXA), a branch of fractal analysis, has been successfully applied in the fields of finance and biomedicine. For its great potential in reflecting the subtle characteristic among signals, a structural health monitoring (SHM) system based on MFDXA is proposed. In this system, damage assessment is conducted by exploiting the concept of multifractal theory to quantify the complexity of the vibration signal measured from a structure. According to the proposed algorithm, the damage condition is first distinguished by multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis. Subsequently, the relationship between the q-order, q-order detrended covariance, and length of segment is further explored. The dissimilarity between damaged and undamaged cases is visualized on contour diagrams, and the damage location can thus be detected using signals measured from different floors. Moreover, a damage index is proposed to efficiently enhance the SHM process. A seven-story benchmark structure, located at the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE), was employed for an experimental verification to demonstrate the performance of the proposed SHM algorithm. According to the results, the damage condition and orientation could be correctly identified using the MFDXA algorithm and the proposed damage index. Since only the ambient vibration signal is required along with a set of initial reference measurements, the proposed SHM system can provide a lower cost, efficient, and reliable monitoring process.

  • We have fabricated a helmet type magnetoencephalogrphy(MEG) with a $1^{st}$ order gradiometer in vacuum to improve the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) and the boil-off rate of liquid helium(LHe). The axial type first-order gradiometer was fabricated with a double relaxation oscillation SQUID(DROS) sensor which was directly connected with a pickup coil. The neck space of LHe dewar was made to be smaller than that of a conventional dewar, but the LHe boil-off ratio appeared to increase. To reduce the temperature of low Tc SQUID sensor and pickup coil to 9 K, a metal shield made of, such as copper, brass or aluminum, have been usually used for thermal transmission. But the metal shield exhibited high thermal noise and eddy current fluctuation. We quantified the thermal noise and the eddy current fluctuation of metal. In this experiment, we used the bobbin which was made of an alumina to wind Nb superconductive wire for pickup coil and the average noise of coil-in-vacuum type MEG system was $3.5fT/Hz^{1/2}$. Finally, we measured the auditory evoked signal to prove the reliability of coil-in-vacuum type MEG system.

  • Laser communication has been considered as a novel method for earth observation satellites with generation of high data volume. It offers faster data transmission speeds compared to conventional radio frequency (RF) communication due to the short wavelength and narrow beam divergence. However, laser beams are refracted due to atmospheric turbulence between the ground and the satellite. Refracted laser beams, upon reaching the receiver, result in angle-of-arrival (AoA) fluctuation, inducing image dancing and wavefront distortion. These phenomena hinder signal acquisition and lead to signal loss in the course of laser communication. So, precise alignment between the transmitter and receiver is essential to guarantee effective and reliable laser communication, which is achieved by pointing, acquisition, and tracking (PAT) system. In this study, we simulate the effectiveness of tip/tilt compensation for more efficient laser communication in the satellite-ground downlink. By compensating for low-order terms using tip/tilt mirror, we verify the alleviation of AoA fluctuations under both weak and strong atmospheric turbulence conditions. And the performance of tip/tilt correction is analyzed in terms of the AoA fluctuation and collected power on the detector.

  • In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to improve the accuracy of indoor positioning techniques using Wi-Fi access points as beacon nodes. The proposed algorithm is based on the Weighted Centroid algorithm, a popular method widely used for indoor positioning, however, it improves some disadvantages of the Weighted Centroid method and also for other kinds of indoor positioning methods, by using the received signal strength correction method and genetic algorithm to prevent the signal strength fluctuation phenomenon, which is caused by the complex propagation environment. To validate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we conducted experiments in a complex indoor environment, and collect a list of Wi-Fi signal strength data from several access points around the standing user location. By utilizing this kind of algorithm, we can obtain a high accuracy positioning system, which can be used in any building environment with an available Wi-Fi access point setup as a beacon node.

  • This paper presents a pulse radar system to detect drones based on a target fluctuation model, specifically the Swerling target model. Because drones are small atypical objects and are mainly composed of non-conducting materials, their radar cross-section value is low and fluctuating. Therefore, determining the target fluctuation model and applying a proper integration method are important. The proposed system is herein experimentally verified and the results are discussed. A prototype design of the pulse radar system is based on radar equations. It adopts three different pulse modes and a coherent pulse integration to ensure a high signal-to-noise ratio. Outdoor measurements are performed with a prototype radar system to detect Doppler frequencies from both the drone frame and blades. The results indicate that the drone frame and blades are detected within an instrumental maximum range. Additionally, the results show that the drone's frame and blades are close to the Swerling 3 and 4 target models, respectively. By the analysis of the Swerling target models, proper integration methods for detecting drones are verified and can thus contribute to increasing in detectability.

  • Tropospheric and ionospheric scintillation may impact on C-band satellite communication systems, particularly at lowmargin systems and low elevation angles. This paper presents the characteristics of C-Band scintillation at low elevation angle received and recorded the satellite signal from INTELSAT above the Pacific Ocean Region (POR) from January 2002 to December 2002 in the period of solar maximum. We received 3.9525 GHz beacon signal at Sri-Racha satellite earth station by the 32 meters in diameter antenna with 8 degrees of elevation. The analysis was found that the values of amplitude fluctuation is mostly about 0.5-0.6 dB peak to peak and $S_4$ = 0.03-0.04. The maximum amplitude fluctuation is about 9 dB peak to peak occurring in April. The occurrence numbers of scintillation is most frequently in April and minimum in November. The occurrence numbers of tropospheric scintillation are most frequently in April and October, and minimum in November. It relates to temperature and water vapor pressure variation in $N_{wet} $. The occurrence numbers of ionospheric scintillation are most frequently in April and September, and minimum in November. It varies corresponding to both equinoctial periods (vernal and autumnal equinox in March and September) and solstice periods (June and December) respectively.
