Uroflowmetry is non-invasive and easily performed to diagnose benign prostatic hypertrophy(BPH) frequent in aged men. Weight change during urination is usually measured to estimate the urinary flow rate by a load cell, but sensitive to any impacts against the bottom of the container, leading to unnecessary noise generation. Moreover, load cells are relatively expensive raising the production cost. The present study proposed a new technique, measuring hydraulic pressure on the bottom of the urine container to evaluate the urinary volume. Low cost pressure transducer enabled almost perfectly linear relationship between the urine volume and the hydraulic pressure. During both the simulated and human urination experiments, variance of the pressure signal was more than 50% smaller than the weight signal acquired by a load cell, which demonstrated that the impact noise was decreased to a great degree by pressure compared to weight measurement.
This paper proposes a speech enhancement algorithm to improve the speech intelligibility by suppressing both reverberation and background noise. The algorithm adopts a non-causal single-channel minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) filter to exploit an additional information that is included in the noisy-reverberant signals in subsequent frames. The noisy-reverberant signals are decomposed into the parts of the desired signal and the interference that is not correlated to the desired signal. Then, the filter equation is derived based on the MVDR criterion to minimize the residual interference without bringing speech distortion. The estimation of the correlation parameter, which plays an important role to determine the overall performance of the system, is mathematically derived based on the general statistical reverberation model. Furthermore, the practical implementation methods to estimate sub-parameters required to estimate the correlation parameter are developed. The efficiency of the proposed enhancement algorithm is verified by performance evaluation. From the results, the proposed algorithm achieves significant performance improvement in all studied conditions and shows the superiority especially for the severely noisy and strongly reverberant environment.

We develope plasma monitoring system which detect plasma signals and store them for Laser welding quality evaluation and analysis using photo detector. The most fundamental and important aspects in such a system are signal restoration fidelity, noise immunity and noise cancelation capability. In this paper, we propose implementation method using distribute processing structure and hybrid digital communication for high noise cancelation capability, immunity and signal fidelity which are poorly presented in other researches. Lab experimental results and welding experimental results show a effectiveness of proposed method and plasma data is stored with 256 kbps without any communication error. we are implementing various welding defect recognition algorithm in this system.
An evaluation method for oxygen permeable characteristics of the membrane covering to each cathode of multiple cathode - single anode type dissolved oxygen sensor, which has high reproducibility and is capable of measuring multiple components in solutions. For this purpose, a measuring circuit for the multiple cathode type DO sensor was designed to lower the noise signal by adapting a digital LPF to readout the sensor output accurately. Digital LPF is designed by setting up the transfer function to set the cutoff frequency to 10Hz, and the transfer function is programmed by C language, and then the filtering characteristics are evaluated with the simulation and experiments. Using this LPF added measuring circuit for the multiple cathode type DO sensor, we have obtained the calibration factor for each cathode to calibrate the variation of the output signals. The calibration factor was obtained by measuring the sensor output signal followed by oxygen partial pressure, using the same oxygen permeable membrane at each cathode of the multiple cathode type DO sensor.
Formic acid is a representative carboxylic acid that inhibits bacterial cell growth, and thus it is generally considered to constitute an obstacle to the reuse of renewable biomass. In this study, Saccharomyces cerevisiae was used to elucidate changes in protein levels in response to formic acid. Fifty-seven differentially expressed proteins in response to formic acid toxicity in S. cerevisiae were identified by 1D-PAGE and nano-liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (nano-LC-MS/MS) analyses. Among the 28 proteins increased in expression, four were involved in the MAP kinase signal transduction pathway and one in the oxidative stress-induced pathway. A dramatic increase was observed in the number of ion transporters related to maintenance of acid-base balance. Regarding the 29 proteins decreased in expression, they were found to participate in transcription during cell division. Heat shock protein 70, glutathione reductase, and cytochrome c oxidase were measured by LC-MS/MS analysis. Taken together, the inhibitory action of formic acid on S. cerevisiae cells might disrupt the acidbase balance across the cell membrane and generate oxidative stress, leading to repressed cell division and death. S. cerevisiae also induced expression of ion transporters, which may be required to maintain the acid-base balance when yeast cells are exposed to high concentrations of formic acid in growth medium.

For developing automotive parts and telematics devices the real car test often shows limitation because it needs high cost, much time and has the possibility of the accident. Therefore, a Vehicle Driving Simulator (VDS) instead of the real-car test has been used by some automotive manufactures, research centers, and universities. The VDS is a virtual reality device which makes a human being feel as if one drives a vehicle actually. Unlike actual vehicle, the simulator has limited kinematic workspace and bounded dynamic characteristics. So it is difficult to simulate dynamic motions of a multi-body vehicle model fully. In order to overcome these problems, a washout algorithm which restricts workspace of the simulator within the kinematic limits is needed, and analysis of dynamic characteristics is required also. However, a classical washout algorithm contains several problems such as time delay and generation of wrong motion signal caused by characteristics of filters. Specially, the classical washout algorithm has the simulator sickness when driver hardly turns brakes and accelerates the VDS. In this paper, a new washout algorithm is developed to enhance the motion sensitivity and improve the simulator sickness by using the vehicle tilt signal which is generated in the real time vehicle dynamic model.

In this paper, we propose the efficient Doppler removal method using map-based partial-time common intermediate frequency removal technique. In the proposed algorithm, the 2-stage carrier removal process was used. First, the component of common intermediate frequency is removed. Next the component of Doppler was removed with averaging and approximation. For the evaluation of the proposed algorithm, The real-time software GPS L1 C/A-code receiver was implemented. When the proposed algorithms are used, 12 tracking channels with 3 track arm(early, prompt, late) is operated real-time on PC using a Intel Pentium-III 1.0GHz CPU. Also, the requirement of memory was less than 2Mbytes. The real-time software GNSS receiver using the proposed algorithms provides the navigation solution with below 10 meter rms error. Especially, in spited of using the various approximations for implementing the algorithms, the high sensitivity capability (able to track the weak signal with -159dBm) was achieved.
Pelvic floor muscle is the main subsystem that maintains urinary continence. It is possible to diagnose the degree of the stress urinary incontinence(SUI) by evaluating the contraction pressure of the pelvic floor muscle. Bio-signal measurement system was developed to measure the contraction pressure. Diagnostic parameters were drawn out by analyzing the measured data. Statistical evaluations were done to classify the all subjects with five groups each has similar characteristics. SUI diagnostic algorithm was implemented to each group separately. The accuracy of the algorithm was about 78.9% and utility was confirmed by clinical trial.

Impact-echo test, a kind of simple and economical method to evaluate the integrity of drilled piles has some limitations to use because the stress wave can be generated only on the head of a pile and the wave propagation in the pile with surrounding soils are very complicated. Numerical analyses and model tests in the laboratory have shown that both the ratio of length to diameter of a pile and the stiffness ratio of pile to soil have influence on the resolution of testing results. Full scale testing piles which have artificial defects were used to verify the capability of impact-echo technique as a tool for the pile integrity evaluation. Behaviour of the reflected signal of stress wave was investigated according to the type of defects. Elastic modulus of the pile was calculated using the wave velocity in the pile and the unconfined strength of concrete specimen. Influences of the stiffness difference between the pile and the ground on the characteristics of a wave signal were also examined.

This paper proposes an analytic method for measuring the accurate fundamental frequency component of a fault current signal distorted with a DC-offset, a characteristic frequency component, and harmonics. The proposed algorithm is composed of four stages: sine filer, linear filter, Prony's method, and measurement. The sine filter and the linear filter eliminate harmonics and the fundamental frequency component, respectively. Then Prony's method is used to estimate the parameters of the DC-offset and the characteristic frequency component. Finally, the fundamental frequency component is measured by compensating the sine-filtered signal with the estimated parameters. The performance evaluation of the proposed method is presented for a-phase to around faults on a 345 kV 200 km overhead transmission line. The EMTP is used to generate fault current signals under different fault locations and fault inception angles. It is shown that the analytic method accurately measures the fundamental frequency component regardless of the characteristic frequency component as well as the DC-offset.
