Recently, the eddy current testing(ECT), alternating current field testing, magnetic flux leakage testing and remote field testing have been used as a nondestructive evaluation method based on the electromagnetic induction phenomenon. The eddy current testing is now widely accepted as a NDE method for the heat exchanger tube in the electric power industry, chemical, shipbuilding, and military. The ECT system mainly consists of the synthesizer module, analog module, analog-to-digital converter, power supplier, and data acquisition and analysis program. In the previous study, the synthesizer module and the analog module which is essential to the ECT system were primarily developed, and in this study the data acquisition and analysis program were developed. The operation system for this program is based on the Windows 7, and optimized for the Korean users, and the specific feature of this program using setup wizard enables inspector to make a setup easily for acquisition and analysis of ECT data. In this paper, the configuration and functions of eddy current data acquisition and analysis program will be introduced.

FBG sensors are capable of measuring the strain of structures easily and more durably than electric resistance gauges. Thus, many researches are dedicated to the application for the response monitoring or non-destructive evaluation of structures using FBG sensors. Additionally, the measured strains at the top and bottom of a cross-section can be transformed into the curvature of the section, which can be used to calculate its vertical displacement. Hence, this study aims to measure the dynamic strain signals of a steel section simply supported beam and to estimate the dynamic displacement from the strain signals, after which the estimated displacement is com pared with the measured displacement. The dynamic characteristics (natural frequency, damping ratio and mode shape) of the beam are predicted from both the estimated and measured displacement signals, and from the strain time history of the FBG sensors. The predicted properties are compared with those of an analytical model of the beam. The estimated displacement. However, the predicted dynamic properties from both the estimated displacements and the measured strains are well-correlated with those from the measured displacement. It is therefore appreciated that the estimation of the dynamic properties of FBG sensor signals is reasonable. Especially, the strain signal of the FBG sensor was amplified at a higher-frequency region in comparison with the displacement estimation with higher-mode properties.

Recently, researches on DBRN(DataBase Referenced Navigation) system are being carried out to replace GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System), as weaknesses of GNSS were found that are caused by the intentional interference and the jamming of the satellite signal. This paper describes the gravity gradient modeling and the construction of EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) based GGRN(Gravity Gradient Referenced Navigation). To analyze the performance of GGRN, fourteen flight trajectories were made for simulations over whole South Korea. During the simulations, we considered the errors in both DB(DataBase) and sensor as well as the flight altitudes. Accurate performances were found, when errors in the DB and the sensor are small and they located at lower altitude. For comparative evaluation, the traditional TRN(Terrain Referenced Navigation) was also developed and performances were analyzed relative to those from the GGRN. In fact, most of GGRN performed better in low altitude, but both of precise gravity gradient DB and gradiometer were required to obtain similar level of precisions at the high altitude. In the future, additional tests and evaluations on the GGRN need to be performed to investigate on more factors such as DB resolution, flight speed, and the update rate.

Concrete waste accounts for approximately 70~80% of the total waste generated during the decommissioning of nuclear power plants (NPPs). Based upon the concentration of each radionuclide, the concrete waste from the decommissioning can be used in the determination of the clearance threshold used to classify waste as radioactive. To reduce the cost of radioactive concrete waste disposal, it is important to perform decontamination before self-disposal or limited recycling. Therefore, it is necessary to estimate the internal radioactivity distribution of radioactive concrete waste to ensure effective decontamination. In this study, the performance metrics of various Compton reconstruction algorithms were compared in order to identify the best strategy to estimate the internal radioactivity distribution in concrete waste during the decommissioning of NPPs. Four reconstruction algorithms, namely, simple back-projection, filtered back-projection, maximum likelihood expectation maximization (MLEM), and energy-deconvolution MLEM (E-MLEM) were used as Compton reconstruction algorithms. Subsequently, the results obtained by using these various reconstruction algorithms were compared with one another and evaluated, using quantitative evaluation methods. The MLEM and E-MLEM reconstruction algorithms exhibited the best performance in maintaining a high image resolution and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), respectively. The results of this study demonstrate the feasibility of using Compton images in the estimation of the internal radioactive distribution of concrete during the decommissioning of NPPs.
UWB signal with high resolution capability can be used to estimate ranging and positioning in wireless personal area network. The node works on its local clock and the frequency differences of nodes have serious affects on ranging algorithms estimating locations of mobile nodes. The low rate UWB, IEEE802.15.4a, describes asynchronous two way ranging methods such as TWR and SDS-TWR working without any additional network synchronization, but the algorithms can not eliminate the effect of clock frequency differences. Therefore, the mechanisms to characterize the crystal difference is essential in typical UWB PHY implementations. In high rate UWB, characterizing of crystal offset with tracking loop is not required. But, detection of the clock frequency offset between the local clock and remote clock can be performed if there is little noise induced jitter. In this paper, we complete related ranging equations of high rate UWB based on TWR with relative frequency offset, and analyze a residual error in the ideal equations. We also evaluate the performance of the relative frequency offset algorithm by simulation and analyze the ranging errors according to the number of TWR to compensate coarse clock resolution. The results show that the relative frequency offset compensation and many times of TWR enhance the performance to converge to a limited ranging errors even with coarse clock resolutions.
This paper analyzes DLL(Delay lock loop) under the multipath fading effects. The evaluated performance measures include the steady-state timing error probability density function (PDF) and the mean-time-to-lose-lock (MTLL) under multipath fading effects. The discriminator characteristic S(${\epsilon}$) is shown to be zero at the point of timing error ${\epsilon}_{0}$ that is not zero, and the MTLL decreases as the delayed signal power $g_{2}$ and delayed time ${\tau}_{d}$ increase. We approximate the steady-state timing error PDF linearly with these variables and evaluate the steady-state timing error PDF and MTLL. The severe multipath fading effects result lower MTLL, in this case we make MTLL larger by increasing the early-late discriminator offset ${\Delta}$. First, we calculate the timing error point ${\epsilon}_{0}$, and present the performance of DLL under multipath fading. The timing error PDF, MTLL and the performance of DLL with ${\Delta}$ are also investigated. And we conclude that the larger ${\Delta}$ makes a higher MTLL and a better performance of DLL under multipath fading effects.

Spatially resolved remote identification and quantification of trace gases in the atmosphere is desirable in various fields of scientific research as well as in public security and industrial contexts. Environmental observations investigating causes, extent md consequences of air pollution are of fundamental interest. We present an Imaging-DOAS system, a ground based remote sensing instrument that allows spatially resolved mapping of atmospheric trace gases by a differential optical absorption spectroscopy(DOAS) with sun scattered light as the light source. A passive DOAS technique permits the identification and quantification of various gases, e.g., $NO_2,\;SO_2,\;and\;CH_2O$, from their differential absorption structures with high sensitivity. The Imaging-DOAS system consists of a scanning mirror, a focusing lens, a spectrometer, a 2-D CCD, ad the integral control software. An imaging spectrometer simultaneously acquires spectral information on the incident light in one spatial dimension(column) and sequentially scans the next spatial dimension with a motorized scanning mirror. The structure of the signal acquisition system is described in detail and the evaluation method is also briefly discussed. Applications of imaging of the $NO_2$ contents in the exhaust plumes from a power plant are presented.

The rapid growth of IoT technology induced by the fourth industrial revolution has resulted in research into various types of wireless sensors, and applications based on this technology are prevalent in many areas. However, among the various sites where this technology is used, railway bridges and tunnels with lengths of tens of kilometers have problems with data acquisition, due to the signal noise induced by the long distance measurement and EMI induced by the high voltage power feeding system, when conventional electric sensors are used. To overcome these problems, many studies on fiber optic sensors have been conducted as a substitute for the conventional electric sensors. However, restrictions on the types of fiber optic sensors have limited their application in railways. For this reason, a hybrid measurement system with IoT based wireless data communication, in which both electric and fiber optic sensors can be applied simultaneously, has been developed. In this study, in order to evaluate the applicability of the hybrid measurement system developed in the previous study, a real-time test for 4 types of measurement environments, which reflect possible railway sites, is performed. As a result, it was confirmed that the signals from both the electric and fiber optic sensors, which were acquired at a remote area in real-time, showed good agreement with each other and that this measurement system has the potential to handle sensors with a sampling rate of 2.5 kHz. In the future, it is expected that the IoT-based hybrid measurement system will contribute to the improvement of structural safety by enabling real-time structural health monitoring when applied to various measurement sites.
