  • Dissimilar friction welding were produced using 15 mm diameter solid bar in superalloy(Alloy718) to chrome molybdenum steel(SCM440) to investigate their mechanical properties. Consequently, optimal welding conditions were n=2000 rpm, HP=60 MPa, UP=120 MPa, HT=10 sec and UT=10 sec when the metal loss(Mo) is 3.5 mm. Acoustic Emission(AE) technique was applied to analyze the dissimilar friction welding of Alloy718 and SCM440. The relationship between the AE parameters and dissimilar friction welding of both material was discussed. In the case of heating time of 6 sec, 10 sec, 14 sec and 20 sec, 5 AE events per 0.5 seconds and energy about $2.7{\times}10^{10}$ were exhibited in heating time. In upsetting time, resulting in various numbers of events per second and very low energy. The frequency range of the signal generated during the heating time was about 200 kHz. However, the upsetting time resulted in a wide range of signals from very low frequency to high frequency of 500 kHz due to rapid plasticity of the material.

  • In this study, psychophysiological stress was quantitatively evaluated at various car interior noise levels by using Electroencephalogram(EEG). An experiment was performed to investigate the most comfortable range of noise level during simulated driving condition. Twelve healthy volunteers participated in the experiment. They were asked to operate the driving simulator while six levels of interior noise were given, such as 45dB(A), 50dB(A), 55dB(A), 60dB(A), 70dB(A), 80dB(A), and maximal subjective noise level. EEG signals were recorded for 60 seconds in each noise level. The power spectral analysis was performed to analyze EEG signal. At the same time, psychological stress was also measured subjectively by using a magnitude estimation method. The results showed that subjective stress and EEG spectrum indicated a statistically significant difference between noise levels. In particular, high level noise produced an increase in beta power at temporal(T3, T4) areas. It was also found that beta activity was highly correlated with subjective perception of discomfort, and subjects responded to car interior noise as arousing or negative stimuli. Moreover, beta power remained stable above 70dB(A), whereas subjective discomfort continued to increase even above 70dB(A) We concluded that brain waves could provide psychophysiological information of drivers emotional reaction to car interior noise. Thus, EEG parameters could be a new measure to determine optimal noise level in ergonomic workplace design after further verification in various experimental conditions.

  • Lightweight concrete (LWC) provides an attractive alternative to conventional piles by improving the durability of deep foundations. In this paper, the drivability of cylindrical and tapered piles made of lightweight and common concrete (CC) under hammer impacts was investigated by performing field tests and numerical analysis. The different concrete mixtures were considered to compare the mechanical properties of light aggregate which replaced instead of the natural aggregate. Driving tests were also conducted on different piles to determine how the pile material and geometric configurations affect driving performance. The results indicated that the tapering shape has an appropriate effect on the drivability of piles and although lower driving stresses are induced in the LWC tapered pile, their final penetration rate was more than that of CC cylindrical pile under hammer impact. Also by analyzing wave propagation in the different rods, it was concluded that the LWC piles with greater velocity than others had better performance in pile driving phenomena. Furthermore, LWC piles can be driven more easily into the ground than cylindrical concrete piles sometimes up to 50% lower hammer impacts and results in important energy saving.

  • In this paper, we propose an intelligent marketing service system that can provide custom advertisements and events to both businesses and customers by identifying the location and contents using the ultrasonic signals and feature information in voice signals. We also develop the encoding and decoding algorithm of ultrasonic signals for this system and analyze the performance evaluation results. With the development of the hyper-connected society, the on-line marketing has been activated and is growing in size. Existing store marketing applications have disadvantages that customers have to find out events or promotional materials that the headquarters or stores throughusing the corresponding applications whenever they visit them. To solve these problems, there are attempts to create intelligent marketing tools using GPS technology and voice recognition technology. However, this approach has difficulties in technology development due to accuracy of location and speed of comparison and retrieval of voice recognition technology, and marketing services for customer relation are also much simplified.

  • In this paper, we propose a method of generating a 2D gray image from LiDAR 3D reflection intensity. The proposed method uses the Fully Convolutional Network (FCN) to generate the gray image from 2D reflection intensity which is projected from LiDAR 3D intensity. Both encoder and decoder of FCN are configured with several convolution blocks in the symmetric fashion. Each convolution block consists of a convolution layer with $3{\times}3$ filter, batch normalization layer and activation function. The performance of the proposed method architecture is empirically evaluated by varying depths of convolution blocks. The well-known KITTI data set for various scenarios is used for training and performance evaluation. The simulation results show that the proposed method produces the improvements of 8.56 dB in peak signal-to-noise ratio and 0.33 in structural similarity index measure compared with conventional interpolation methods such as inverse distance weighted and nearest neighbor. The proposed method can be possibly used as an assistance tool in the night-time driving system for autonomous vehicles.

  • The Centimeter Level Augmentation Service (CLAS) is the Precise Point Positioning (PPP) - Real Time Kinematic (RTK) correction service utilizing the Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) L6 (1278.65 MHz) signal to broadcast the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) error corrections. Compact State-Space Representation (CSSR) corrections for mitigating GNSS measurement error sources such as satellite orbit, clock, code and phase biases, tropospheric error, ionospheric error are estimated from the ground segment of QZSS CLAS using the code and carrier-phase measurements collected in the Japan's GNSS Earth Observation Network (GEONET). Since the CLAS service begun on November 1, 2018, users with dedicated receivers can perform cm-level precise positioning using CSSR corrections. In this paper, CLAS-based VRS-RTK performance evaluation was performed using Global Positioning System (GPS) observables collected from the refence station, TSK2, located in Japan. As a result of performing GPS-only RTK positioning using the open-source software CLASLIB and RTKLIB, it took about 15 minutes to resolve the carrier-phase ambiguities, and the RTK fix rate was only about 41%. Also, the Root Mean Squares (RMS) values of position errors (fixed only) are about 4cm horizontally and 7 cm vertically.

  • The aims of this study were to describe the appearance and size of the normal canine prostate using magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and to calculate the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values. MR images were obtained from seven intact male beagle dogs using a 1.5 T MR unit. The sequences included pre- and post-contrast T1- and T2-weighted imaging with and without fat saturation. The signal intensity of the prostate was compared with the adjacent musculature, fat, and urine in the urinary bladder. We recorded the mean prostatic length, width, and height and the length of the sixth lumbar vertebral body (L6). In addition, the prostatic length (rL), width (rW), and height (rH) ratios to L6 were calculated. Diffusion-weighted images of the prostate were obtained and ADC values were calculated. The prostate was bilobed and oval-shaped, homogenous on T1-weighted images, and heterogeneous with radiating lines on T2-weighted images. Post-contrast T1-weighted sequences showed contrast enhancement of the central and radiating striations. The prostatic capsule was clearly identified on post-contrast T1-weighted images with fat saturation. The ADC values were 1.72-2.04 × 10-3mm2/sec (mean, 1.88 × 10-3mm2/sec). Knowledge of the normal appearance of the prostate on MR images is essential to assess prostatic diseases in dogs.

  • Underwater color images suffer from low visibility and color cast effects caused by light attenuation by water and floating particles. This study applied single image enhancement techniques to enhance the quality of underwater images and compared their performance with real underwater images taken in Korean waters. Dark channel prior (DCP), gradient transform, image fusion, and generative adversarial networks (GAN), such as cycleGAN and underwater GAN (UGAN), were considered for single image enhancement. Their performance was evaluated in terms of underwater image quality measure, underwater color image quality evaluation, gray-world assumption, and blur metric. The DCP saturated the underwater images to a specific greenish or bluish color tone and reduced the brightness of the background signal. The gradient transform method with two transmission maps were sensitive to the light source and highlighted the region exposed to light. Although image fusion enabled reasonable color correction, the object details were lost due to the last fusion step. CycleGAN corrected overall color tone relatively well but generated artifacts in the background. UGAN showed good visual quality and obtained the highest scores against all figures of merit (FOMs) by compensating for the colors and visibility compared to the other single enhancement methods.

  • Fields of high-precision positioning applications are growing fast across the mass market worldwide. Accordingly, the industry is focusing on developing methods of applying State-Space Representation (SSR) corrections on low-cost GNSS receivers. Among SSR correction types, this paper analyzes Safe Position Augmentation for Real Time Navigation (SPARTN) messages being offered by the SAfe and Precise CORrection DAta (SAPCORDA) company and validates positioning algorithms based on them. The first part of this paper introduces the SPARTN format in detail. Then, procedures on how to apply Basic-Precision Atmosphere Correction (BPAC) and High-Precision Atmosphere Correction (HPAC) messages are described. BPAC and HPAC messages are used for correcting satellite clock errors, satellite orbit errors, satellite signal biases and also ionospheric and tropospheric delays. Accuracies of positioning algorithms utilizing SPARTN messages were validated with two types of positioning strategies: Code-PPP using GPS pseudorange measurements and PPP-RTK including carrier phase measurements. In these performance checkups, only single-frequency measurements have been used and integer ambiguities were estimated as float numbers instead of fixed integers. The result shows that, with BPAC and HPAC corrections, the horizontal accuracy is 46% and 63% higher, respectively, compared to that obtained without application of SPARTN corrections. Also, the average horizontal and vertical RMSE values with HPAC are 17 cm and 27 cm, respectively.
