  • Nitzberg has analyzed the detection performance of the clutter map constant false alarm rate (CFAR) detector using single pulse. In this paper, we extend the detection analysis to the clutter map CFAR detector that employs M-pulse noncoherent integration. Detection and false alarm probabilities for Swerling target models are derived. The analytical results show that the larger the number of integrated pulses M, the higher the detection probability. On the other hand, the analytical results for Swerling target models show that the detection performance of the completely decorrelated target signal is better than that of the completely correlated target.

  • In this paper, we propose out-of -band collaborative spectrum sensing scheme in the cognitive radio (CR) base station operated by the multiple frequency channels. Also this paper presents the signal detection results for ATSC digital TV signal as an incumbent signal and derives signal detection probability and false alarm probability for the out-of-band collaborative spectrum sensing scheme in frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel. Numerical results demonstrate that the sensing performance is improved by the out-of-band collaborative spectrum sensing in the case that the incumbent signal powers measured by the CR terminals of the multiple frequency channels are almost similar.

  • The performance analysis of serial search spread spectrum synchronization system is carried out. To evaluate the synchronization probabilities, two chi-square densities for signal plus noise and noise only are derived. Then Neyman-Pearson scheme is applied to determine the threshold of the synchronization system. The synchronization probability curves are shown as a function of threshold and signal to noise ratios.

  • This paper proposes a detection algorithm for group testing. Group testing is a problem of finding a very small number of defect samples out of a large number of samples, which is similar to the problem of Compressed Sensing. In this paper, we define a noiseless group testing and propose a probabilistic algorithm for detection of defective samples. The proposed algorithm is constructed such that the extrinsic probabilities between the input and output signals exchange with each other so that the posterior probability of the output signal is maximized. Then, defective samples are found in the group testing problem through a simulation on the detection algorithm. The simulation results for this study are compared with the lower bound in the information theory to see how much difference in failure probability over the input and output signal sizes.

  • The vehicle detection method using pulse radar has the advantage of maintenance in comparison with loop detection method. We propose the pulse radar signal processing algorithm in which we devide the trace. data from pulse radar into segments by using SSC concept, and then construct the sectors in accordance with period and amplitude of segments, and finally decide the vehicle detection probability by applying the SSC parameters of each sectors into the discriminant function. We also improve the signal processing time by reducing the quantities of processing data and processing routines.

  • In this paper, we consider the problem of spectrum sensing for advanced television systems committee (ATSC) digital television (DTV) signal detection. To exploit the cyclostationarity of the ATSC DTV signals, we employ spectral correlation density (SCD) as the decision statistic and propose an optimal detection algorithm. The major difficulty is in obtaining the probability distribution functions of the SCD. To overcome the difficulty, we probabilistically model the pilot frequency location and employ Gaussian approximation for the SCD distribution. Then, we obtain a practically implementable detection algorithm that outperforms the industry leading systems by 2-3 dB. We also propose various techniques that greatly reduce the system complexity with performance degradation by only a few tenths of decibels. Finally, we show how robust the system is to the estimation errors of the noise power spectral density level and the probability distribution of the pilot frequency location.

  • A spatio-temporal searcher structure for 3rd generation W-CDMA systems is proposed to enhance the detection capability of the multi-path searcher for the desired signal. This searcher employs the spatio-temporal signal structure to search for newly emerging multipath signals. The proposed multi-path searcher provides better detection capability andthus reduces the mean acquisition time. The detection and false alarm probabilities of new and conventional schemes are calculated and numerical examples of mean acquisition time are given thereafter.

  • This paper introduces the simulation concepts and technical approach of underwater weapon system performance analysis simulator, especially focused on probabilistic target detection concepts. We calculated the signal excess (SE) value using SONAR equation, then derived the probability density function(PDF) for target presence($H_1$) or absence($H_0$) cases, respectively. With the Neyman-Pearson detector criterion, we got the probability of detection($P_D$) while satisfying the given probability of false alarm($P_{FA}$). At every instance of simulation, target detection is decided in the probabilistic perspective. With the proposed detection implementation, we improved the model fidelity so that it could support the tactical decision during the operation.

  • In this paper, a sequential detection scheme is proposed as a combination of a novel weak-signal and a locally optimum(LO) detection schemes. In Part 1, we propose a novel sequential detection scheme for weak signals and show some interesting threshold properties and examples. In Part 2, the performance of the proposed sequential detection scheme is compared with that of the fixed sample size(FSS) test, sequential probability ratio test (SPRT), and truncated sequential probability ratio test(TSPRT).
