  • In this paper, we suggest a method for discretized frequency modulations of ultrasonic signals. A continuous sweep of frequency modulation signals can be modelled with fine levels of discretization. If the ultrasound signals are modulated with monotonically decreasing frequencies, then the cross-correlation between an emitted signal and received signal can be used to identify the distance of multiple target objects. For the discretized frequency synthesis, CF ultrasounds with different frequencies are serially ordered. The auto-correlation test with the signal shows effective results for distance estimation. The discretized frequency syntheses have better distance resolution than CF ultrasound signals and the resolution depends on the number of the combined ultrasound frequencies.

  • The operation of Interference cancellation algorithm for wireless repeater cancellation depends on either existing correlation properties between desired signal and reference signal or not At the time, due to the correlation properties at the ICS system, adaptive algorithms without considering system delay do not function properly. Thus, this system should be oscillated. In this paper, to solve these problems, we use the delayed least mean square algorithm. For the best performance of ICS, the system delays must be estimated. To efficiently estimate the delay of ICS, we use relations between bandwidth and correlation properties of the received signal.

  • A study on the Correlation of Orthogonal Cutting Parameter (Cutting speed, Depth of cut, Feed Rate) and Acoustic Emission Signal. It is well known that acoustic emission (AE) is the emission of elastic wave resulting from the deformation and fracture of materials. This study estabished correlation of orthogonal cutting parameter and AE signal, and researched into in-process monitoring of tool wear and failure. The results are as follow; 1. AE RMS was under the influence of cutting speed but hardly influenced by depth of cut and feed rate. 2. AE RMS was under the influence of flank wear. 3. AE count rate increased by increased cutting speed. 4. AE RMS value was rapidly increased in 130 m flank wear.

  • Each reproducing speech signal has each particular signal property, because of the processing of encoding and decoding for communications through various media. In this paper, we examine the correlation between speech signal quality and sensory pleasure for the sensory improvement of that signal. In experiments, we evaluate the quality of speech signals through various media by psychological auditory test and physical features of these signals.

  • A signal system for improving the code acquisition complexity of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver is proposed and the receiving correlator scheme is presented accordingly. The proposed signal system is a hierarchical code type with a duplexing configuration which consists of the Zadoff-Chu (ZC) code having a good auto-correlation characteristic and the Pseudo Random Noise (PRN) code for distinguishing satellites. The receiving correlator has the scheme that consists of the primary correlator for the ZC code and the secondary correlator which uses the PRN code for the primary correlation results. The simulation results of code acquisition using the receiving correlator of the proposed signal system show that the proposed signal scheme improves the complexity of GNSS receiver and has the code acquisition performance comparable to the existing GNSS signal system using Coarse/Acquisition (C/A) code.

  • This paper addresses a new double detection algorithm which is based on the fuzzy control in the adaptive echo canceller of communication system. In this method, the two input of the fuzzy inference for detecting double talk condition are used. The one is the cross-correlation coefficient between the error signal and the primary signal which is the summed signal of the real echo signal and the near-end signal. The other is the cross-correlation coefficient between the estimation error signal and the primary signal. The fuzzy controller made a fuzzification for two inputs by the membership functions of trapezoid and them became the composition using inference rules. The composed result is defuzzificated by the center gravity method. The output is compared with two threshold values to detect double talk and echo path variation effectively. It is confirmed by computer simulation that this fuzzy double talk detector is able to track echo path variation accurately.

  • The problem of classifying a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) signal in a multipath channel is important to improve global navigation satellite system (GNSS) positioning accuracy in urban areas. Conventional deep learning-based NLOS signal classifiers use GNSS satellite measurements such as the carrier-to-noise-density ratio (CN_0), pseudorange, and elevation angle as inputs. However, there is a computational inefficiency with use of these measurements and the NLOS signal features expressed by the measurements are limited. In this paper, we propose a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-based NLOS signal classifier that receives successive Auto-correlation function (ACF) outputs according to a time-series, which is the most primitive output of GNSS signal processing. We compared the proposed classifier to other DL-based NLOS signal classifiers such as a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) to show the superiority of the proposed classifier. The results show the proposed classifier does not require the navigation data extraction stage to classify the NLOS signals, and it has been verified that it has the best detection performance among all compared classifiers, with an accuracy of up to 97%.

  • The design theory and experimental results of a true random noise radar system are presented in this paper. Target range information can be extracted precisely by correlation processing between the delayed reference and the signal received from a target, and the velocity information by the Doppler processing with successive correlation data. A K-band noise radar system was designed using random FM noise signal, and the characteristics of the fabricated system were examined with laboratory and outdoor experiments. A C-band random FM noise signal was generated by applying a low-frequency white Gaussian noise source to VCO(Voltage Controlled Oscillator), and a K-band Tx noise signal with 100 MHz bandwidth was obtained by using a following frequency multiplier. Two modified wave-guide horn arrays were designed and fabricated, and used for the Tx and Rx antennas. The required amount of Tx/Rx isolation was attained by using a coupling cancellation circuit as well as keeping them apart with predetermined spacing. A double down-conversion scheme was used in the Rx and reference channels, respectively, for easy post processing such as correlation and Doppler processing. The implemented noise radar performance was examined with a moving bicycle and a very high-speed target with a velocity of 150 m/s. The results extracted by the Matlab simulation using the logging data were found to be in a reasonable agreement with the expected results.

  • The purpose of testability analysis is to estimate the difficulty of testing a stuck-at fault in logic circuits. A good testability measurement can give an early warning about the testing problem so as to provide guidance in improving the testability of a circuit. There have been researches attempting to efficiently compute the testability analysis. Conventional testability measurements, such as COP and SCOAP, can calculate the testability value of a stuck-at fault efficiently in a tree-structured circuit but may be very inaccurate for a general circuit. The inaccuracy is due to the ignorance of signal correlations for making the testability analysis linear to a circuit size. This paper proposes an efficient method for computing testability analysis, which takes into account signal correlation to obtain more accurate testability. The proposed method includes the algorithm for identifying all reconvergent fanouts in a given n circuit and the gates reachable from them, by which information related to signal correlation is gathered.

  • This paper presents a probabilistic methodology for small signal stability analysis of power system with correlated wind sources. The approach considers not only the stochastic characteristics of wind speeds which are treated as random variables with Weibull distributions, while also the wind speed spatial correlations which are characterized by a correlation matrix. The approach based on the 2m+1 point estimate method and Cornish Fisher expansion, the orthogonal transformation technique is used to deal with the correlation of wind farms. A case study is carried out on IEEE New England system and the probabilistic indexes for eigenvalue analysis are computed from the statistical processing of the obtained results. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method are confirmed by comparing with the results of Monte Carlo simulation. The numerical results indicate that the proposed method can actually capture the probabilistic characteristics of mode properties of the power systems with correlated wind sources and the consideration of spatial correlation has influence on the probability of system small signal stability.
