차체구조용 CFRP 사이드부재의 정적 압궤특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Static Collapse Characteristics of CFRP Side Member for Vehicle)

  • The front-end side members of automobiles, such as the hat-shaped section member, absorb most of the energy during the front-end collision. The side members absorb more energy in collision if they have higher strength and stiffness, and stable folding capacity (local buckling). Using the above characteristics on energy absorption, vehicle should be designed light-weight to improve fuel combustion ratio and reduce exhaust gas. Because of their specific strength and stiffness, CFRP are currently being considered for many structural (aerospace vehicle, automobiles, trains and ships) applications due to their potential for reducing structural weight. Although CFRP members exhibit collapse modes that are significantly different from the collapse modes of metallic materials, numerous studies have shown that CFRP members can be efficient energy absorbing materials. In this study, the CFRP side members were manufactured using a uni-directional prepreg sheet of carbon/Epoxy and axial static collapse tests were performed for the members. The collapse mode and the energy absorption capability of the members were analyzed under the static load.

  • Automotive manufacturers lay their eyes on the new manufacturing technologies because of the strengthened competition. Among them, a simultaneous forming is one of the innovative forming technologies to be able to reduce production time and cost. Several parts can be simultaneous manufactured by process, while the conventional stamping demands the same number of die sets with the number of parts. In this study, the automotive front side member was manufactured by the simultaneous forming. The position and the size of initial blank were determined by forming analysis and try-outs, and the blank movement during the forming was controlled by introducing the pilot pin.

  • In roll forming process, a sheet metal is continuously progressively formed into a product with required cross-section and longitudinal shape, such as a circular tube with required diameter, wall-thickness and straightness, by passing through a series of forming rolls in arranged in tandem. In recent years, that process is often applied to the bumper rail in the automotive industries. In this study, a optimal front side member manufacturing technology, model deign and proper roll-pass sequences can be suggested by forming number of roll-pass and bending angle. And also effects of the process parameters on the final shape formed by roll forming defects were evaluated.

  • Ultra high strength steels(UHSS) are widely used to fill the needs of lightweight part for automobile, and the control of springback is very important (actor in sheet metal forming using UHSS. In this study, to lighten the center floor side member(CFSM) which is normally manufactured using $600{\sim}800MPa$ steel sheet, new design of the manufacturing process for CFSM using APFC980 has been proposed. To accomplish this goal, the influence of process variables such as die corner radius and die wall angle on the springback were investigated using FE-analysis. In order to insure the validity of FE-analysis, the springback results of FE-analysis was verified with prototype product.

Impact of piezocision on orthodontic tooth movement

  • Objective: This study investigated the impact of a single piezocision in the maxillary alveolar process on the speed of tooth movement. The null hypothesis was that the speed of tooth movement will be equal with and without piezocision. Methods: All maxillary molars on one side were moved against the combined incisors in 10 ten-week-old male Wistar rats. Under general anesthesia, a force of 25 cN was applied on either side using a Sentalloy closed coil spring. After placing the orthodontic appliance, vertical corticision was performed using a piezotome under local anesthesia, 2 mm mesial from the mesial root of the first molar on a randomly selected side; the other side served as the control. At the beginning of the treatment, and 2 and 4 weeks later, skull micro-computed tomography was performed. After image reconstruction, the distance between the mesial root of the first molar and the incisive canal, and the length of the mesial root of the first maxillary molar were measured. Moreover, the root resorption score was determined as described by Lu et al. Results: Significantly higher speed of tooth movement was observed on the corticision side; thus, the null hypothesis was rejected. The loss of root length and root resorption score were significantly more pronounced after piezocision than before. A strong correlation was observed between the speed of tooth movement and root resorption on the surgical side, but the control side only showed a weak correlation. Conclusions: Piezocision accelerates orthodontic tooth movement and causes increased root resorption.

SIZE OPTIMIATION OF AN ENGINE ROOM MEMBER FOR CRASHWORTHINESS USING RESPONSE SURFACE METHOD

  • The frontal crash optimization of an engine room member using the response surface method was studied. The engine room member is composed of the front side member and the sub-frame. The thicknesses of the panels on the front side member and the sub-frame were selected as the design variables. The purpose of the optimization was to reduce the weight of the structure, under the constraint that the objective quantity of crash energy is absorbed. The response surface method was used to approximate the crash behavior in mathematical form for optimization procedure. To research the effect of the regression method, two different methodologies were used in constructing the response surface model, the least square method and the moving least square method. The optimum with the two methods was verified by the simulation result. The precision of the surrogate model affected the optimal design. The moving least square method showed better approximation than the least square method. In addition to the deterministic optimization, the reliability-based design optimization using the response surface method was executed to examine the effect of uncertainties in design variables. The requirement for reliability made the optimal structure be heavier than the result of the deterministic optimization. Compared with the deterministic optimum, the optimal design using the reliability-based design optimization showed higher crash energy absorption and little probability of failure in achieving the objective.

저속충돌조건에서 효과적인 충돌에너지흡수를 위한 알루미늄 크래쉬 박스의 비드형상 효과 (Effect of Bead Shape in Aluminum Crash Box for Effective Impact Energy Absorption Under Low- Velocity Impact Condition)

  • 알루미늄 크래쉬 박스는 저속충돌조건에서 프론트 사이드 멤버를 변형을 방지하기 위한 부품이다. 본 연구에서는 저속충돌조건에서 비드형상이 알루미늄 크래쉬 박스의 충돌성능에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. Edge concave, surface convex 와 surface concave 타입의 비드형상들에 대한 충돌해석 및 실험을 수행하여 비드가 없는 normal 타입의 알루미늄 크래쉬 박스의 충돌성능과 비교분석하였다. 충돌성능은 저속충돌조건에서 크래쉬 박스의 초기 최대하중 및 충돌에너지 흡수능으로 평가하였다. 이를 검증하기 위해 알루미늄 크래쉬 박스와 결합된 프론트 사이드 멤버에 대해 저속충돌실험 수행하고, 이를 분석하였다. Surface concave 타입의 비드가 삽입된 알루미늄 크래쉬 박스 경우, 프론트 사이드 멤버의 변형을 방지할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

반응표면법을 이용한 차체 부재의 충돌성능 향상을 위한 설계 최적화 (Design Optimization of Auto-body Members for Crashworthiness Enhancement with the Response Surface Method)

  • The response surface method is the statistical method which can be applied to the non-sensitivity based optimization. The response surface which is constructed by the least square method contains only the polynomial terms so that the global maximum and minimum points are easily obtained. In this paper, this response surface method is utilized to optimize the crashworthiness of auto-body members. As the first step, the thickness of a simple circular tube is optimized to confirm the application of the response surface method to the crashworthiness. Optimization of the thickness on the front side member is, then, performed with the constructed response surface of the absorbed energy and deformation. Optimization results demonstrate that the absorbed energy and the deformation pattern of the front side member is improved in the viewpoint of enhancement of the crashworthiness.
