완도납석으로부터 제조한 $\beta$-Sialon에 대한 SiC의 복합화 효과 (Effect of SiC Dispersion of $\beta$-Sialon Prepared from Wando Pyrophylite)

  • 완도납석과 carbon black 의 혼합물을 135$0^{\circ}C$에서 질소분위기를 사용하여 탄소환원질화법으로 $\beta$-Sialon 분물에 $\beta$-SiC를 제2상으로 넣어서 $Y_2O_3$$ZrO_2$를 각 소결조제로 사용하여 175$0^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 동안 상압소결하였다. 10wt %의 $Y_2O_3$를 소결조제로 사용하였을 때에 파괴인성은 3.8MN/m^{3/2}$, 3점꺽임 강도는 470MN/$m^2$ 그리고 경도는 13.7MN/$m^2$로서 좋은 값을 나타내었다. 이와 같은 파괴인성과 꺽임강도의 증가는 균열편향과 균열나눠짐에 의한 것으로 생각된다.

  • Si3N4, AlN and Y2O3 powder mixtures of the Y0.1(Si, Al)12(N, O)16 composition were hot-pressed at 1900℃ for 0 to 60 min under 30 MPa in order to fabricate the partially-stabilized α-Sialon ceramics (X=0.1). Room and high temperature flexural strengths of the specimens were compared with those of Si3N4-5 wt%Y2O3, Si3N4-5 wt%Y2O3-2 wt%Al2O3, and β-Sialon (Z=0.5) ceramics. The flexural strength of the α-Sialon ceramics which was hot-pressed for 15 min showed the highest value of 820 MPa at 1400℃ that is relatively higher temperature. It is guessed that a little amount of glassy phase existed in grain boundary because Y2O3 and AlN components were incoperated in Si3N4 grains, or transient liquid phase sintering, and microstructure with the smaller grain size and the interlocked grains of α'-and β-Si3N4 was obtained by the hot-pressing at high temperature of 1900℃ for the short time (15 min).

알콕사이드로부터 $\alpha$-Sialon 세라믹스의 제조 및 기계적 성질(I) (Synthesis of $\alpha$-Sialon Ceramics from an Alkoxide and Their Mechanical Properties(I))

  • The powders of the system Si3N4-Y2O3-AlN were prepared using Si(OC2H5)4 and YCl3.6H2O together with commercial AlN powder. $\alpha$-Si3N4 was prepared by the carbothermal reduction and nitridation of the hydrolyzed gel at 135$0^{\circ}C$ for 10h in N2 atmosphere. YCl3.6H2O was observed to be changed to Y2O3 during the reaction. $\alpha$-Sialon(X=0.2, 0.4, 0.6) ceramics were obtained by hot-pressing the Si3N4-Y2O3-AlN mixture at 178$0^{\circ}C$ for 1h under 30 MPa. The content of $\alpha$-Sialon increased with increasing metal solubility(x value) and $\alpha$-Sialon single phase was obtained at the metal solubility of 0.6. With increasing metal solubility, flexural strength, fracture toughness and thermal shock resistence were decreased, while the microhardness was increased. Large elongated $\beta$-Si3N4 grains were mainly observed at lower metal solubility. Mechanical prorerties of the sintered ceramics with X=0.2 were measured as follows : flexural strength ; 650 MPa, fracture toughness ; 3.63 MN/m3/2, hardness ; 14.7 GPa, thermal shock resistence temperature ; 58$0^{\circ}C$.

비화학양론 조성에 따른 $Eu^{2+}$ 활성화 $\alpha$-sialon 황색 형광체의 광학 특성 연구 (The optical property study of $Eu^{2+}$-activated yellow $\alpha$-sialon phosphors with Non-stoichiometry composition)

  • 일반적인 고상반응법을 이용하여 $Eu^{2+}$ 활성화 $\alpha$-sialon 황색 형광체를 합성한 후 구조 및 광학특성을 측정하였다. $Ca^{2+}$$Si^{4+}$ 이온의 비화학양론적 첨가에 따른 광학 특성 측정결과, 중심 발광 파장이 약 585 nm 인 높은 휘도의 황색형광체를 얻을 수 있었다. 본 연구에서는 $Ca^{2+}:Si^{4+}$ 첨가비에 따른 광학특성 변화를 관찰하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 구조 및 미세구조 변화에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 20 mol%의 Al deficient 조성을 갖는 형광체의 광학특성 측정결과 화학양론조성에 비해 20% 이상의 휘도향상을 나타내었다. 이와 같은 결과로부터, 본 연구에서 제시된 Al deficient $\alpha$-sialon 황색 형광체는 자외선 및 청색 LED용 형광체로 적합할 것으로 판단된다.

  • $eta$-Sialon synthesis was investigated via the simulataneous reduction and nitriding of Wando pyrophyllite. When Wando pyrophyllite-graphite-$Si_3N_4$ seed mixture was heated at 135$0^{\circ}C$ for as long as 10 hours in 80% $N_2$-20%$H_2$ atomsphere $eta$-$Si_3N_4$ solid solution was mainly formed together with a small amount of $\alpha$-$Si_3N_4$ The value z of the forming $Si_{6-x}Al_2O_2N{8-z}$ was decreased with heating time.

  • $eta$-Sialon synthesis was investigated via the simultaneous reduction and nitridation of Hadong Pink Kaolin using the graphite as a reducing agent at 135$0^{\circ}C$ under 80% $N_2-20%H_2$ atmosphere. When Hadong Pink Kaolin-graphite-silicon nitride seed(molar ratio ; $SiO_2:C:Si_3N_4$=1;3.5:0.05) mixture was heated at 135$0^{\circ}C$ for as long as 20h in 80%$N_2-20%H_2$ atmosphere a homogeneous $eta$-Sialon$(Si_{3.5}Al_{2.5}O_{2.5}N_{2.5})$ was mainly formed together with a small amount of $\alpha$-$Si_3N_4$.

  • 가정용 전자 렌지를 사용하여, SiO2-Al 분말 성형체로 이루어진 시편을 질화분위기에서 점화시켰다. 연소파대가 전파되면서 미반응물없이 Si와 AIN와 Al2O3를 석출하였으며, 냉각과정을 거치지 않고 곧바로 석출물들이 마이크로파를 흡수하여 고온에서 가열되어서 사이알론상을 합성하였다. 전자렌지안에서 SiO2-Al 분말성형체로부터 사이알론상들의 합성율은 일반적인 로내에서의 합성율보다 높았고, 공정시간이 불과 1시간내외에 이어서 에너지와 제조경비를 절약할 수 있었다.

  • $eta$-Sialon powders were prepared by reduction-nitridation from mixture of Wando pyrophyllite and graphite as a reducing agent at 135$0^{\circ}C$ in 80% $N_2$-20% $H_2$ atmosphere. As the reaction products $Si_2ON_2$, $\beta$-$Si_3N_4$ a--$Si_3N_4$ and $\beta$-SiC were observed. Additive agents of MgO, CaO, $Y_2O_3$ were used for promoting the reduction and nitridiation aeaction. The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of silica-carbon ratio ($SiO_2$/C=weight ratio), raction time gas flow rate pellet size and powder packing on synthesis of $\beta$-Sialon from Wando pyropyllite.

  • $\beta$-Sialon powders were prepared by the reduction-nitridation reaction from the mixture of Wando-pyrophyllite and graphite at 135$0^{\circ}C$ in $N_2-H_2$ atmosphere. The $\beta$-Sialon powders were sintered at 175$0^{\circ}C$ by the pressureless sintering for 90min and the hot-pressing for 60 min respectively. All the sintered bodies showed their relative densities higher than 94% The values of M.O.R fracture toughness(KIC) and hardness showed 32.9kpsi 2.9MN/$m^{1.5}$ , 12.1GN/$m^2$ for the pressure-less sitnered bodies and 48.6kpsi, 4.6 MN/4m^{1.5}$ 15.3GN/$m^2$ for the hot-pressed bodies respectively.

Y2O3-AlN 미량첨가 질화규소의 열간가압소결 (Hot-Pressing of Silicon Nitride Containing Low Amounts of $Y_2O_3$ and AlN)

  • Partially stabilized alpha-sialon composition (X=0.1) powder was hot-pressed at 1800~200$0^{\circ}C$ for 0~90 min with 30 MPa. Sintering behavior, phase changes and mechanical properties for the specimens were studied. As sintering temperature was raised from 1800 to 190$0^{\circ}C$, the relative density tended to increase and reached 99% of theoretical at 190$0^{\circ}C$. However the amount of alpha-sialon decreased because alpha-sialon transformed to beta-Si3N4 and yttrium rich silicate glass. In the case of hot-pressing at 190$0^{\circ}C$ for various times, densification increased with sintering time and full densification above 99% of theoretical was attained by 30 min. The amount of alpha-sialon decreased with sintering time. The maximum strength of 825 MPa was obtained by hot-pressing at 190$0^{\circ}C$ for 60 min.
