Preparation and Characterization of Kalsilite ($KAISiO_4$) as a Novel Inorganic Membrane Material (새로운 무기분리막 재료로서의 Kalsilite ($KAISiO_4$) 제조와 물성)

  • Membrane process has been focused as an alternative separation process because not only it exhibits a high selectivity compared with a traditional distillation process, but also it is known to be an energy saving separation process. Inorganic membrane, especially zeolite membrane, has been studied since it can be operated in severe conditions compared to the organic membranes. Recently, new zeolite materials are tested as an inorganic membrane material to overcome disadvantages of existing zeolite membranes. Kalsilite can be used as an inorganic membrane material for gas separation and selective water separation from water/organic mixtures because it is expected to be hydrophilic resulted from Si/Al ratio of 1 like zeolite 4A and has a narrow pore size of 0.36 nm. In this study, kalsilite was synthesized by a new economical hydrothermal process using Si : Al : K : $H_2O$ mole ratio of 1 : 1 : 8 : 60. The synthesized kalsilite powder was confirmed by XRD and has a mean diameter of $2.73{\mu}m$. The vapor adsorption test showed the synthesized kalsilite is hydrophilic.

Effects of Fiber Orientations and Hybrid Ratios on Lubricant Tribological Characteristics of $Al_2O_{3f}/SiC_p$ Reinforced MMCs ($Al_2O_{3f}/SiC_p$ 금속복합재료의 섬유방향과 혼합비가 윤활마모특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The lubricant tribological characteristics of $Al_2O_3$ fiber and SiC particle hybrid metal matrix composites (MMCs) fabricated by squeeze casting method was investigated using a pin-on-disk wear tester. The wear tests of the MMCs were performed according to fiber/particle hybrid ratio in the planar-random (PR) and normal (N) orientations sliding against a counter steel disk at a fixed speed and $25\;kg_f$ loading under different sliding distances and temperatures. The test results showed that the wear behavior of MMCs varied with fiber orientation and hybrid ratio. At room temperature, the lubricant wear behavior of F20P0 unhybrid PR-MMCs was superior to that of N-MMCs while the hybrid composites exhibited the reverse lubricant wear behavior. It was also revealed that the wear resistance of PR-MMCs was superior to that of the N-MMCs due to the joint action of reinforcements and lubricant film between the friction surfaces at an elevated temperature of $100^{\circ}C$ for both fiber only and hybrid cases. In case of $150^{\circ}C$, although the trend of weight loss was similar to that of others, the wear resistance of PR-MMCs was better than that of N-MMCs for hybrid MMCs.

  • The copolymerization of ethylene (E) and norbornene (N) was examined by using various metallocene catalysts and modified-MAO(MMAO) cocatalyst. For $C_2$-symmetry catalysts such as rac-Et(Ind)$_2$ZrC $l_2$, M $e_2$Si(Ind)$_2$ZrC $l_2$, M $e_2$Si(Cp)$_2$ZrC $l_2$ and Cs-symmetrical iPr(FluCp)ZrC $l_2$ as well as CGC and di-bridged zirconocene, the effects of catalyst structure and [N]/[E] feed ratio on catalyst activity, thermal property and [N] content of copolymer (COC) was investigated. For rac-Et(Ind)$_2$ZrC $l_2$ catalyst of a constant [N]/[E] feed ratio, the appropriate conditions of [Al]/[Zr] mole ratio, polymerization temperature and cocatalyst structure were found to be 3000, 4$0^{\circ}C$, MMAO cocatalyst, respectively. As [N]/[E] feed ratio increased, the incorporation of norbornene to copolymer increased while, the activity of catalyst decreased except for iPr(FluCp)ZrC $l_2$ With consideration of catalyst activity as well as N content, it was found that rac-Et(Ind)$_2$ZrC $l_2$/MMAO system exhibited relatively high activity and controllable $T_{g}$. Characterization of Fluorocarbon Thin Films deposited by PECVD (PECVD로 증착된 불화 유기박막의 특성 평가)

  • Teflon-like fluorocarbon thin film was deposited by using difluoromethane$(CH_2F_2$) added with Ar, $O_2$, and $CH_4$ on Si, $SiO_2$, TEOS, and Al substrate. The deposited thin film was characterized by static contact angles for measuring hydrophobicity in various additive gas ratio. temperature, and working pressure. In case of addition with Ar, the static contact angles decreased as additive gas ratio and power increased. But the static contact angles increased as working pressure increased. Specially, super-hydrophobic surface was obtained using the powder-like fluorocarbon thin film above 2 Torr. Added with $O_2$, the static contact angles decreased as the $O_2$ ratio and working pressure increased. And the static contact angles did not change in 100W, but hydrophilic surface was obtained at 200W. In case of addition of CE$_4$, static contact angles dramatically increased in $CH_4/CH_2F_2$ ratio 5. And continuous static contact angles obtained above ratio 5. As compare with previous experiments by thermal evaporation, the fluorocarbon thin film by plasma polymerization was obtained very low hysteresis. This results shows more homogenous surface by plasma polymerization than thermal evaporation process.

Synthesis and Characterization of Zeolite Using Water Treatment Sludge (정수슬러지를 이용한 제올라이트의 합성 및 특성연구)

  • Zeolite was synthesized hydrothermally using the water-treatment sludge, and the effects of various synthesis parameters like reaction temperature, reaction time, and Na2O/SiO2 molar ratio on the crystallization of zeolite were investigated. Crystal structure, physical property, and thermal stability of zeolite crystals were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, FTIR spectroscopy, BET nitrogen adsorption, and TGA measurements. The removal efficiencies of nitrogen in ammonia, heavy metal ions, and TOC were calculated to evaluate zeolite's adsorption capacity. The primary chemical composition of water-treatment sludge was 28.79% Al2O3 and 27.06% SiO2. The zeolites were synthesized by merely employing the water-treatment sludge as silica and alumina sources without additional chemicals. Zeolite crystals synthesized through the water-treatment sludge were confirmed as an A-type zeolite structure. Zeolite A had the highest crystallinity obtained from a gel with the molar composition 2.1Na2O-Al2O3-1.6SiO2-65H2O after 5 h at a temperature of 90 ℃. The specific surface area of zeolite obtained was 55 ㎡ g-1, which was higher than commercial zeolite A. The removal efficiency of nitrogen in ammonia was 68% after 3 h of reaction time, while the removal efficiencies of Pb2+ and Cd2+ ions were 99.1% and 99.3%, respectively. These results indicate active ion exchange between Pb2+ or Cd2+ ion and Na+ ion in the zeolite framework. The adsorption experiments on the different zeolite addition conditions were performed for 3 h with 300 ppm humic acid. Based on the results, TOC's highest efficiency was 83% when 5 g of zeolite was added.

Preliminary Quality Analysis between Native Bee Honeys Produced from JukJang Area (경북 죽장지역 토종꿀의 고품질화를 위한 특성 비교)

  • To compare the characteristics between native and foreign bee honeys, we analyzed several parameters of honeys by measuring pollen species, mineral content and K/Na ratio. Our results showed that native bee honey is higher in the pollen species, mineral concentrations than foreign bee honey. The K/Na ratio of native bee honey were increased 3.9~27.9 times than foreign bee honey. We could not detect Fe, Zn, and Al in all native bee honeys by the inductively coupled plasma method. The present results suggest that the several parameters such as pollen species, mineral content and K/Na ratio, were applicable for the identification of differences between native bee honey and foreign bee honey.

  • Solution processed Resistive random access memory (ReRAM)은 간단한 공정 과정, 고집적도, 저렴한 가격, 대면적화 플라즈마 데미지 최소화 등의 장점으로 차세대 비휘발성 메모리로 써 많은 관심을 받고 있으며, 주로 high-k 물질인 HfOx, TiOx, ZnO 가 이용 된다. IGZO와 ZTO와 같은 산화물 반도체는 높은 이동도, 대면적화, 넓은 밴드갭으로 인하여 투명한 장점으로 LCDs (Liquid crystal displays)에 이용 가능하며, 최근에는 IGZO와 ZTO에서 Resistive Switching (RS) 특성을 확인한 논문이 보고되면서 IGZO와 ZTO를 ReRAM의 switching medium와 TFT의 active material로써 동시에 활용하는 것에 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 이와 같은 산화물 반도체는 flat panel display 회로에 TFT와 ReRAM의 active layer로써 집적가능 하며 systems-on-panels (SOP)에 적용 가능하다. 하지만 IGZO 보다는 ZTO가 In과 Ga을 포함하지 않기 때문에 저렴하다. 그러므로 IGZO를 대신하는 물질로 ZTO가 각광 받고 있다. 본 실험에서는 ZTO film에 Al을 doping하여 메모리 특성을 평가하였다. 실험 방법으로는 p-type Si에 습식산화를 통하여 SiO2를 300 nm 성장시킨 기판을 사용하였다. 그리고 Electron beam evaporator를 이용하여 Ti를 10 nm, Pt를 100 nm 증착 한다. 용액은 Zn와 Tin의 비율을 1:1로 고정한 후 Al의 비율을 0, 0.1, 0.2의 비율로 용액을 각각 제작하였다. 이 용액을 이용하여 Pt 위에 spin coating방법을 이용하여 1000 rpm 10초, 6000 rpm 30초의 조건으로 AZTO (Al-ZnO-Tin-Oxide) 박막을 증착한 뒤, solvent 및 불순물 제거를 위하여 $250^{\circ}C$의 온도로 30분 동안 열처리를 진행하였다. 이후 Electron beam evaporator를 이용하여 top electrode인 Ti를 100 nm 증착하였다. 제작된 메모리의 전기적 특성은 HP 4156B semiconductor parameter analyzer를 이용하여 측정하였다. 측정 결과, AZTO (0:1:1, 0.1:1:1, 0.2:1:1)를 이용하여 제작한 ReRAM에서 RS특성을 얻었으며 104 s이상의 신뢰성 있는 data retention특성을 확인하였다. 그리고 Al의 비율이 증가할수록 on/off ratio가 증가하고 endurance 특성이 향상되는 것을 확인하였다. 결론적으로 Al을 doping함으로써 ZTO film의 메모리 특성을 향상 시켰으며 AZTO film을 메모리와 트랜지스터의 active layer로써 활용 가능할 것으로 기대된다.

Investigation of the Contact Resistance Between Amorphous Silicon-Zinc-Tin-Oxide Thin Film Transistors and Different Electrodes Using the Transmission Line Method

  • A thin film transistor (TFT) has been fabricated using the amorphous 0.5 wt% Si doped zinc-tin-oxide (a-0.5 SZTO) with different electrodes made of either aluminium (Al) or titanium/aluminium(Ti/Al). Contact resistance and total channel resistance of a-0.5SZTO TFTs have been investigated and compared using the transmission line method (TLM). We measured the total resistance of 1.0×102 Ω/cm using Ti/Al electrodes. This result is due to Ti, which is a material known for its adhesion layer. We found that the Ti/Al electrode showed better contact characteristics between the channel and electrodes compared with that made of Al only. The former showed a less contact and total resistance. We achieved high performance of the TFTs characteristic, such as Vth of 2.6 V, field effect mobility of 20.1 cm2 V−1s−1, S.S of 0.9 Vdecade−1, and on/off current ratio of 9.7×106 A. It was demonstrated that the Ti/Al electrodes improved performance of TFTs due to enhanced contact resistance.

A Study of Al2O3 Thin Films Etching Characteristics Using Inductively Coupled BCl3/Ar Plasma (유도결합형 BCl3/Ar 플라즈마를 이용한 Al2O3 박막의 식각 특성)

  • In this study, the etching characteristics of $Al_2O_3$ thin films were investigated using an ICP (inductively coupled plasma) of $BCl_3$/Ar gas mixture. The etch rate of $Al_2O_3$ thin films as well as the $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ etch selectivity were measured as functions of $BCl_3$/Ar mixing ratio (0~100% Ar) at a constant gas pressure (10 mTorr), total gas flow rate (40 sccm), input power (800 W) and bias power (100 W). The behavior of the $Al_2O_3$ etch rate was shown to be quite typical for ion-assisted etch processes with a dominant chemical etch pathway. To analyze the etching mechanism using DLP (double langmuir probe), OES (optical emission spectroscopy) and surface analysis using XPS (x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) were carried out.

Microstructure Control of Porous In-situ Synthesized $Si_2N_2O-Si_3N_4$ Ceramics

  • Using $6wt%Y_2O_3-2wt%Al_2O_3$ as sintering additives and Si as a raw powder, the continuously porous in-situ $Si_2N_2O-Si_3N_4$ bodies were fabricated by multi-pass extrusion process and their microstructures were investigated depending on the addition of carbon (0-9wt%) in the mixture powder. The introduction of $Si_2N_2O$ fibers observed in the unidirectional continuous pores as well as in the pore-frame regions of the nitrided bodies can be an effective method in increasing the filtration efficiency. In the case of no carbon addition, the network type $Si_2N_2O$ fibers with high aspect ratio appeared in the continuous pores with diameters of 150-200 nm. However, in the case of 9wt% C addition, the fibers were found without any network type and had diameters of 200-250 nm.
