A Study on a Stereoscopic Display System Using a Rotary Disk Type Beam Shutter (회전 디스크형 빔 셔터를 이용한 입체영상 디스플레이 시스템에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a stereoscopic display system using a rotary disk tyre beam shutter and two beam projectors is proposed. It is a kind of active stereoscopic display and can be easily converted from passive stereoscopic system using polarizing filters. If it is possible to synchronize the revolution speed of the beam shutter with the integer multiple of the scanning frequency of the beam projectors, we can obtain a comparable performance with our system to an active stereoscopic system using one expensive high performance beam projector. Further, if we rotate the beam shutter at sufficiently high revolution speed, our active stereoscopic system works regardless of synchronization and thus the system is much easier to implement.

  • This is the abstract of lecture on Electro-optic characteristics of D-KDP crystal and its application for high speed shutter made by Dr. Naomi Furuya; The professor of Yamanashi University in Kofu Japan on March 31, 1973 for KEEI in the auditorium of Korea Electric Company. His lecture is listened by KEEI members that KDP Z-cut crystal can be utilized as a high speed shutter of 10$^{-6}$ second, combining special camera and 2-3KV electrical impulse generator and also recording slide photographs on tungoten lamp crystal voltage and melting fuse phenomena due to over-current taken by this special equipment had been demonstrated.

  • Unlike conventional visible light communications (VLC) adopting photo detectors (PD), optical camera communications (OCC) employs cameras in detecting the transmitted data. Especially, the data rate of OCC can be enhanced by using the principle of rolling-shutter, which is the operating scheme of a CMOS image sensor. In this study, we consider a novel OCC system for high-speed real time video processing to transmit high speed data from LED and to acquire image utilizing rolling-shutter effect of CMOS image sensor. Also, we demonstrate the improved performance of proposed system using a test-bed.

  • Filming of movie is not working for translating scenario of story or character's moving. Director of Photography accumulates emotion in scenario through image. The accumulation of continuation is the essence of movie. Therefore, cinematographer strives consistently to analysis scenario and to express through visual which operation of the most basis can be filming technology. Eventually, Filming of movie is based on mean of technology to show artistry work. Accordingly, searching the most fundamental of filming's technical factor considerably help to understand movie art. There are variation technology factors to expose character's emotion. And the most simple and influential try by only using the pure function of camera is utilizing shutter without supporting lighting and production design. As a result, this thesis discuss about essential and basic factors of utilizing shutter.

  • In this paper, we propose a scene adaptive method to obtain two LDR images with proper shutter speeds which capture the irradiance of scene effectively. The proposed method adaptively selects two shutter speeds across the video frame even when the illumination varies continuously. For the performance evaluation, we compute the PNSR to the ground truth which is obtained by the state-of-the-art HDR imaging method. It shows that the proposed method is able to select approximately optimal shutter speeds while avoiding the exhaustive search of every possible pair of shutter speeds.

  • 4K high speed camera shooting enables shooting of fast subjects in Full HD 4 times resolution without motion blur due to increase in resolution and shutter speed. However, this shooting incurs several limitations including focus, intensity of radiation and increase in data quantity. As lack of intensity of radiation may occur due to increased shutter speed, it is shoot by opening aperture and limitation in focusing follows. In addition, there is limitation in shooting records since it has restriction in storage due to increased resolution and frame rate. In this regard, this study aims to analyze the limitations shown above through production case of 4K high speed camera (Phantom Flex 4K) and to design effective workflow to overcome this.

Ambient Light Backscatter Communication for IoT Applications

  • In this paper, we present an ambient light backscatter communication design that enables Internet of Things (IoT) devices to communicate through the backscattering ambient light emitted from lighting infrastructure or sunlight. The device can selectively modulate ambient light by switching a liquid crystal display (LCD) shutter located on its surface, so that a nearby smart device, which includes a photodiode or a camera, can demodulate this backscattered light information. To verify the practicality of the proposed concept, we design an IoT device equipped with a commercial LCD shutter and a microcontroller. Our device produces ambient light backscattered data at a speed of 100 bps, and these data are successfully decoded by a commercial photodiode module 10 cm away from the IoT device. We believe that our ambient light backscatter communication design is appropriate for implementation in various IoT applications.

  • A precision planting system using computer controlled technology for mulching cultivation was developed and tested . The system consisting of a micro-computer, several optical fiber sensors and control actuators realized the mechanization of the precision planting operation. The film hole positions, existences of a seed on shutter were detected and the planting speed was measured. The shutter opening mechanism and a seed metering device driven by a stepping motor were controlled, automatically . The planting timing of the shutter opening mechanism were analyzed from a video camera motion analysis, theoretically. The results showed a sufficient accuracy of a seed planted into the center a film hole with a variety of planting speeded. The gravity point positions in film hole of seeds planted by the system just were within the area of +-5mm of the hole center when the hole diameter was 40mm.

  • We proposed several systems for 1Giga bit Modem. The first, Binary ASK(Amplitude Shift Keying) system has a high speed shutter transmitter and no IF(Intermediate Frequency) receiver only by symbol synchronization. The advantage of proposed system is that circuitry is very simple without IF process. The disadvantage of proposed system are that line spectrum occurs interference to other channels, and enhancement to 4-level system is impossible due to its large SNR degradation. The second, Binary phase modulation system has a high speed shutter transmitter and IF-VCO(IF-Voltage Controlled Oscillator) control by base-band phase rotation. Polarity of shutter window is changed by the binary data. The window should be narrow same as above ASK. The advantage of proposed system is which error rate performance is superior. The disadvantage of proposed system are that Circuitry is more complex, narrow pull-in range of receiver caused by VCO and spectrum divergence by the non-linear amplifier. The third, 4-QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation)system has a nyquist pulse transmitter and IF-VCO control by symbol clock. The advantage of proposed system are that signal frequency band is a half of 1GHz, reliable pull-in of VCO and possibility of double speed transmission(2Gbps) by keeping 1GHz frequency-band. The disadvantage of proposed system are that circuit complexity of pulse shaping and spectrum divergence by the non-linear amplifier.
