Performance Analysis of Photovoltaic Power Generator by Usage Battery Charge (축전지 사용 유무에 따른 태양광발전기의 성능 분석)

  • This study examined the electric power quantity derived from solar radiation after installing a photovoltaic power generation system on the rooftop of building adjacent to a greenhouse with a view to reducing the operating expenses of the greenhouse by securing electric energy required to run it. Results of the study can be summed up as follows: The maximum, mean, and minimum solar radiation on the horizontal plane was $26.1MJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$, $14,0MJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$, and $0.6MJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$, respectively and individual the daily electric energy generated was about 6.1 kWh, 3.7 kWh, and 0.01 kWh. The cumulative total amounts of solar radiation and electric energy was about $4,378.2MJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$ and 1,163.2 kWh, respectively. Maximum, mean and minimum cumulative electric energy consumed through each load respectively was 4.5 kWh, 2.4 kWh, and 0.0 kWh and the cumulative electric energy were 739.2 kWh, which accounted for about 63.5% of generated power. In case of the mean amount of power consumption of the system used for this study, the small capacity of heater and the short operating hours meant there was enough power; while big capacity of heater led to a shortage, and if the array surface temperature increased relatively, the energy became proportionate to solar radiation and generated power does not increase. The correlation coefficient between the two factors was 0.851, which indicates a high correlation coefficient.

  • Climate change threatens the security of domestic water resources in South Korea. To overcome the potential water shortage, various approaches are being studied by alterning the operation of dams or by integrated operation of multiple dams and reservoirs. However, most of the related researches were developed and applied for multi-purpose dams, and few studies were conducted for the hydropower dams. The main purpose of the hydropower dam is to generate electric energy; however, the potential water shortage due to prolonged droughts brings the idea to supply water from the hydropower dam in the basin. To that end, it is required to estimate the water supply ability of the hydropower dams. In this study, we proposed a methodology to classify the hydropower dam into a "storage-type" and "run-of-river type" dam. The proposed approach was demonstrated using the hydropower dams located in North-han River basin. The results of this study are expected to contribute for further analysis of the hydropower dams, such as evaluation of water supply capacity and drought mitigation purpose operation of the hydropower dams.

  • Over the past few years, smart devices, including smartphones, have been continuously required by users based on portability. The performance is improving. Ubiquitous computing environment and sensor network are also improved. Due to various network connection technologies, mobile terminals are widely used. Smart terminals need technology to make energy monitoring more detailed for more stable operation during use. The smart terminal which is light in small size generates the power shortage problem due to the various multimedia task among the terminal operation. Various estimation hardwares have been developed to prevent such situation in advance and to operate stable terminals. However, the method and performance of estimating the remaining amount are not relatively good. In this paper, we propose a method for estimating the remaining amount of smart terminals. The Capacity Estimation of lithium ion cells for stable operation was estimated based on machine learning. Learning the characteristics of lithium ion cells in use, not the existing hardware estimation method, through a map learning algorithm using machine learning technique The optimized results are estimated and applied.

Korean Nuclear Reactor Strategy for the Early 21st Century -A Techno-Economic and Constraints Comparison- (21세기 차세대 한국형 원자로 전략 -기술경제 제약요인 비교-)

  • The system analysis for Korean nuclear power reactor option is made on the basis of reliability, cost minimization, finite uranium resource availability and nuclear engineering manpower supply constraints. The reference reactor scenarios are developed considering the future electricity demand, nuclear share, current nuclear power plant standardization program and manufacturing capacity. The levelized power generation cost, uranium requirement and nuclear engineering professionals demand are estimated for each reference reactor scenarios and nuclear fuel cycle options from the year 1990 up to the year 2030. Based on the outcomes of the analysis, uranium resource utilization, reliability and nuclear engineering manpower requirements are sensitive to the nuclear reactor strategy and associated fuel cycle whereas the system cost is not. APWR, CANDU longrightarrow FBR strategy is to be the best option for Korea. However, APWR, CANDU longrightarrow Passive Safe Reactor(PSR)longrightarrowFBR strategy should be also considered as a contingency for growing national concerns on nuclear safety and public acceptance deterioration in the future. FBR development and establishment of related fuel cycle should be started as soon as possible considering the uranium shortage anticipated between 2007 and 2032. It should be noted that the increasing use of nuclear energy to minimize the greenhouse effects in the early 21st century would accelerate the uranium resource depletion. The study also concludes that the current level of nuclear engineering professionals employment is not sufficient until 2010 for the establishment of nuclear infrastructure.

A Study on the Causality between Electric Reserve Margin, Electricity Tariff, Renewable Energy, Economic Growth, and Concurrent Peak in Winter and Summer: OECD Panel Analysis (전력예비율과 전기요금, 신재생, 경제성장, 동·하계 동시피크 간 인과관계 연구 : OECD 패널 분석)

  • In Korea, prior to 2011, the electric reserve margin followed the probabilistic reliability view and the planning reserve margin had been operated at about 15% based on the assumption that power outage was permitted within 0.5 days a year. However, after experiencing the shortage of the electric generation capacity in Sept. 15, 2011, the planning reserve margin was selected as 22% to improve the reliability of the electric supply. In this paper, using panel data of 28 OECD countries over the period 2000-2014 we attempted to empirically examine the linkage between reserve margin, electricity tariffs, renewable energy share, GDP per capita, and summer / winter peak-to-peak ratios. As a result, all four independent variables have been significant for the electric reserve margin, and in particular, we found that countries with similar peaks in winter and summer have operated 4.3% higher reserve margin than countries experiencing only summer peak.

The Criticality Analysis of Spent Fuel Pool with Consolidated Fuel in KNU 9 & 10 (조밀화 집합체로 중간저장하는 경우 원자력 발전소 9, 10호기의 사용 후 핵연료 저장조의 임계분석)

  • Since the lack of the spent fuel storage capcity has been expected for all Korean nuclear power plants in the mid-1990s, the maximum density rack (MDR) with consolidated fuels can be proposed to overcome the shortage of the storage capacity in KNU 9 & 10 which have most limited capacities. To ensure the safety when the alternatives are applied in the KNU 9 & 10, the multiplication factor are calculated with varying the rack pitch and the thickness of consolidated storage box by the AMPX-KENO IV codes. The computing system is verified by the benchmark calculation with criticality experiments for arrays of consolidated fuel modules, which was reported by B & W in 1981. Also an abnormal condition, i.e. malposition accident, is simulated. The results indicate that the KNU 9 & 10 storage pools with consolidated fuel are safe in the view of the criticality. Thus the storage capacity can be expanded from 9/3 cores into 27/3 cores even with considering equipments and cooling spaces.

  • This paper analyzed quantitative effect on sorts of scenario for DE (Decentralized Energy) in the Korean Power System using WADE Economic Model. WADE Economic Model calculated shortage of power sales from the existing technologies above all. and it construct a new type of technologies according to sorts of scenario for DE. generating capacity and electricity generation is computed from this process. From now on can assess the side of environment meant $CO_2$, $NO_x$, $SO_x$, PM10 and cost meant electric retail cost that composed of construction, T&D, fuel, maintenance and environment.

Analysis and improvement of transfer power capability considering movable load charging of EV (전기자동차 충전부하의 이동성을 고려한 전송 전력량의 해석 및 개선)

  • This paper presents an analysis for improving the power transfer capability in transmission lines caused by the movable load charging of electric vehicles (EVs). EVs are expected to be used more widely and replace gas fuel vehicles in the near future due to the shortage of fossil fuels and for environmental preservation. Movable load charging of EVs could lead to the convergence of transferred power flow and overloading conditions in transmission lines in a specific area of a power system, which is conventionally based on estimated fixed load capability. To analyze these conditions, the New England Test System was divided into four regions based on the load characteristics, and different charging scenarios were considered. In these scenarios, the regional power load was highly increased to 31% based on the standard charging capacity of an EV. As a solution to the overloading problem of transmission lines, a TCSC was installed serially on the overloaded line to directly control the transferred power under limited line capability (100% load capability). The simulation showed that the application of a few TCSCs could efficiently and economically control the line capability problem caused by movable load charging of EVs.

  • Our society witnesses the rapid progress in the areas of politics, economy, society and culture in the process of national modernization since 1960s, which in turn as a reverse function gets to contract a societic pathology, totally lowering the security level of citizens' lives owing to various violent crimes like hostage commotions and murders with rifles and deadly weapons. what is the main reason for that? That may be partly because the chief police force concentrates on the current situation resulting in the vacuum of the public peace. However, the main reason is that the police fall short of man-power and equipments even if the whole police power were put to use in preventing and quelling the crimes. That is true not only of Korea but also of the advanced countries like the U.S.A., England and Japan. We realize that these advanced countries have higher level of security in every individual's life and property than Korea because their progress of the private guard systems can fill in a vacuum of the shortage of the police power, Therefore, we should without delay internationalize our private guard systems expecting the widely opening of the guard service markets in the age of Uruguay Round. To do this, we need to change our ideas for fostering the policy of the private guard from passive defense ideas into positive aggressive ones. Our police should urgently set up a plan to pursue the orientation of vision that we should dispatch our private guards overseas before foreign guards rush into our markets. Accordingly it goes without saying that the private guard group should distinguish their services from the public services initiating their own theory and strategy of private guard services and also readjust themselves between the public duties and the private services with the study of minimizing the reverse function of the private guard systems. The history criminal justice has always shown that the criminal system progressed at the initiative of the civil factor in case its demand and supply do not make both ends meet. Nevertheless, in the process the power of the government never weakens, rather it is built up in general. In conclusion, the necessity of the build-up of the private guard services must duly be acknowledged by the police as well as by the business which has its unique sphere within the criminal justice instead of as the suplemtary services of the simple the police power on the long-term basis. The purpose of the private guard services can be largely classified into the two categories; first it means the function to prevent the crimes against the citizens and secondly to enhance the national interest as an increasing mammoth business with a worldly competition capacity. The police has an absolute responsibility that they should protect the modem public in general from feeling the crisis of the personal threat, tension, anxiety and nervousness. In short, if we develop the complete private guard system to guarantee the societic atmosphere for all citizens, keep the public peace, and protect all citizens' lives and properties, we will sure enjoy a beautiful land, a wholesome society and a happy life in goodharmony of law and order.

A System Simulation Model of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell for Residential Power Generation for Thermal Management Study (가정용 연료전지 시스템의 열관리 해석을 위한 시스템 운전 모델 개발)

  • A PEMFC(proton exchange membrane fuel cell) is a good candidate for residential power generation to be coped with the shortage of fossil fuel and green house gas emission. The attractive benefit of the PEMFC is to produce electric power as well as hot water for home usage. The thermal management of PEMFC for RPG is to utilize the heat of PEMFC so that the PEMFC can be operated at its optimal efficiency. In this study, thermal management system of PEMFC stack is modeled to understand the dynamic response during load change. The thermal management system of PEMFC for RPGFC is composed of two cooling circuits, one for controling the fuel cell temperature and the other for heating up the water for home usage. The different operating strategy is applied for each cooling circuit considering the duty of those two circuits. Even though the capacity of PEMFC system (1kW) is enough to supply hot domestic water for residence, heat-up of reservior takes some hours. Therefore, in this study, time schedule of the simulation reflects the heat-up process. Dynamic responses and operating strategies of the PEMFC system are investigated during load changes.
