Today a lot of functional areas of a firm are operated on the Web. Online shopping malls analyze web log recording customers' activities on the web to connect them to business outcomes. Not only commercial websites, but online news sites also need to collect and analyze web logs to understand their news readers' interest. However, little research has been performed yet. In this research we mined the web access log of an online news website and conduct Market Basket Analysis to uncover the association rules among the categories of news articles. The research is composed of two stages: 1) Identifying the individual session of a visitor; 2) Mining association rule from news articles read by each session. We gather 7-day access logs two times. The results of log mining and meanings of association rules are suggested with managerial implications in conclusion section.
The purpose of this study was to compare clothing values and clothing purchasing behaviors between Korean and American college students, especially men. Also this study was to analyze the clothing values effect on the clothing purchasing behavior. For the practical study, 200 questionaries were surveyed, 110 from Korea and 105 from American. The average and frequency, t-test, $\chi^2$, multi-variate analysis of variance and factor analysis were used for this study. The result showed, first, there were little differences in the clothing value aspect. Both Korean college men and American college men considered the theoretical value to be most important, however, the American college men were higher than the Korean college men for theoretical, economic and political values. Compared to the Americans, the Koreans considered social clothing value to be more important but theoretical, economic and political values were less important. Second, there were some differences in most of all the clothing purchasing behaviors. There were slight differences in the reasons for the purchases between Korean and American college men. Both of them said that they purchase clothes to satisfy their needs. Regarding the information sources for the purchase, The Korean college men were slightly higher than the American college men for the media information sources and lower than them for the human information sources. Regarding the place where the clothes were purchased, the Korean college men preferred to make purchases at department stores, and the American college men preferred shopping malls. Regarding the monthly expenses for clothing, less than 50,000 won($50) was the average for most of the Korean women, but most of the American college women spent 100,000~150,000 won($150) per month. Third, the clothing value was different in the reason for purchasing, the purchasing information source, the purchasing place, and the monthly expenses for the clothing.
CALS/EC is about doing business electronically. It is based on the electronic processing and transmission of data, including text, sound and video. It encompasses many diverse activities including electronic trading of goods and services, online delivery of digital content, electronic fund transfers, electronic share trading, electronic bills of lading, commercial auctions, collaborative design and engineering, online sourcing, public procuremet, direct consumer marketing, and after-sales service. It involves both products(e.g. consumer goods, specialised medical equipment) and services(e.g. information services, financial and legal services); traditional activities(e.g. healthcare, education) and new activities (e.g. virtual malls). CALS/EC will be emerging to replace and substitute the role of the conventional market. By changing and eliminating some processes of the transactions, the electronic market and the electronic commerce will redistribute the power and hence the benefits of the market activities. Traditional way of doing business may enter into the new electronic market because the role and function of trust and established reputation will be reinforced in the electronic market. The CALS/EC through the Internet has been in the spotlight in the shopping behavior of the consumers. Accordingly Corporates are trying to adapt themselves to those rapidly changing environments being affected by the Internet. Among others, particularly to be noted is the CALS/EC between corporations and consumers whose potential growth can be considered very substantial. This report, focusing on the introduction of CALS/EC for the logistics of SMEs, will allow us to prepare more efficiently for the coming 21st Century. It is obvious that CALS/EC is fast becoming the useful way of exchanging not only information but products in business between firm-to-firm and firm-to-customer.
Smart television(TV) is replacing the traditional television model and the importance of user experience(UX) is rising. User experience evaluates the emotion state of users such as immersion, pleasure, and interest. User experience together with usability is a principle to be considered as for designing a smart television. It contributes to improve user satisfaction and lead to the long-term purchase. User experience is more difficult to measure than usability, because UX evaluation requires to biological and psychological techniques. However, the disadvantages of these physiological and psychological techniques require high experimental costs and the restriction of experimental environment. The objective of this paper is first to review conventional methods regarding UX evaluation and suggests a new method for measuring the UX of smart TV which detects keywords related emotional representation. The text is acquired from purchase postscripts of smart TV in the Internet shopping malls. This method costs less than the questionnaire survey to detect emotion.

In recent, hybrid market segmentation techniques have been widely adopted, which conduct segmentation using both general variables and transaction based variables. However, the limitation of the techniques is to generate incorrect results for market segmentation even though its methodology and concept are easy to apply. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme to overcome this limitation of the hybrid techniques and to take an advantage of product information obtained by customer's transaction data. In this scheme, we first divide a whole market into several unit segments based on the general variables and then agglomerate the unit segments with higher QAP correlations. Each product network represents for purchasing patterns of its corresponding segment, thus, comparisons of QAP correlation between product networks of each segment can be a good measure to compare similarities between each segment. A case study has been conducted to validate the proposed scheme. The results show that our scheme effectively works for Internet shopping malls.

RSS is a core component of Web 2.0 which is expected to lead the most important innovation in the new IT environment. In that sense, it is actively utilized to distribute Web contents in various areas such as news, blog, multimedia, medical information, and conference and journal information. Also, it is expected to be a major effective marketing tool in electronic commerce domain. In the paper, we analyzed the problems of current utilization of RSS in domestic shopping malls, and suggest requirements for the effective use of RSS in electronic commerce. Furthermore, we proposed various issues and answers on the implementation of the requirements, and designed the intelligent RSS framework for electronic commerce based on the issues. Syntactic and semantic interoperability between the RSS service provider and the user is one of the most important issues in the framework. We suggested how to implement the interoperability based on Semantic Web technologies.
In this paper, we introduce an automatic product feature extracting system that improves the efficiency of product review analysis. Our system consists of 2 parts: a review collection and correction part and a product feature extraction part. The former part collects reviews from internet shopping malls and revises spoken style or ungrammatical sentences. In the latter part, product features that mean items that can be used as evaluation criteria like 'size' and 'style' for a skirt are automatically extracted by utilizing term statistics in reviews and web documents on the Internet. We choose nouns in reviews as candidates for product features, and calculate degree of association between candidate nouns and products by combining inner association degree and outer association degree. Inner association degree is calculated from noun frequency in reviews and outer association degree is calculated from co-occurrence frequency of a candidate noun and a product name in web documents. In evaluation results, our extraction method showed an average recall of 90%, which is better than the results of previous approaches.
The resilience of a city confronted with a terrorist bomb attack is the background of the paper. The resilience strongly depends on vital infrastructure and the physical protection of people. The protection buildings provide in case of an external explosion is one of the important elements in safety assessment. Besides the aspect of protection, buildings facilitate and enable many functions, e.g., offices, data storage, -handling and -transfer, energy supply, banks, shopping malls etc. When a building is damaged, the loss of functions is directly related to the location, amount of damage and the damage level. At TNO Defence, Security and Safety methods are developed to quantify the resilience of city infrastructure systems (Weerheijm et al. 2007b). In this framework, the dynamic response, damage levels and residual bearing capacity of multi-storey RC buildings is studied. The current paper addresses the aspects of dynamic response and progressive collapse, as well as the proposed method to relate the structural damage to a volume-damage parameter, which can be linked to the loss of functionality. After a general introduction to the research programme and progressive collapse, the study of the dynamic response and damage due to blast loading for a single RC element is described. Shock tube experiments on plates are used as a reference to study the possibilities of engineering methods and an explicit finite element code to quantify the response and residual bearing capacity. Next the dynamic response and progressive collapse of a multi storey RC building is studied numerically, using a number of models. Conclusions are drawn on the ability to predict initial blast damage and progressive collapse. Finally the link between the structural damage of a building and its loss of functionality is described, which is essential input for the envisaged method to quantify the resilience of city infrastructure.
The purpose of this study is designed to estimate the air quality of subway stations that have the underground platforms in Pusan Metropolitan City, from September to November 2000, over seven times. The subjects include Yonsan-dong station, Somyon station, Pusan station, Nampo-dong station, and Tushil station. The samplings were conducted at three points of each station, i.e. gate, ticket gates, and platforms. The major materials for analysis were CO, NO, NO$_2$, and $O_3$. The experiment was conducted at 7:00 pm with KIMOTO HS-seven Handy sampler and Tedlar Bag of SKC INC(U.S.A). In order to more fully understand station environments, we also measured temperature at each point. The results showed that $O_3$ average concentration at Yonsan-dong station was higher than others with 38~51 ppb. The average concentration of NO was high at ticket gate and platform at Somyon station(119 ppb, 122 ppb), Nampo-dong station(102 ppb, 100 ppb). These results show that the air pollution of stations with underground shopping malls was higher than others. At Somyon station having a junction station, NO and NO$_2$ concentration level of platform-2(noncrowded) was higher than platform-1(crowded). This is most likely due to the accumulation of air pollutants and inadequate ventilation systems.
