In order to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage in the expanding maritime transportation market, most shipping companies are making every effort to reduce transportation costs. Likewise, the car shipping companies, which carry more than 80% of total car import and export logistics volume, also do their utmost for transportation cost saving. Until now many researches have been made for efficient maritime transportation, but studies for car shipping companies have rarely been made. For this reason, this study has tried to develop a maritime transportation planning support system which can help to save logistics costs and increase a competitive power of car shipping companies. To this end, instead of manual effort to solve the routing problem of car carrier vessels, this study has proposed a genetic algorithm. The performance of the genetic algorithm will be evaluated by comparing with the optimal solution of integer programming model.

This purpose of this study is to identify the Analysis of Safety Control Factor Influenced on the Management of the Costal Shipping Companies. The study selected the analysis of safety control factors performed the Brain-Storming method, Depth Interview and Face-to-Face Interview. This survey targets are 25 experts for the opinions of expert groups with CEO of coastal shipping companies. This study used ISM(Interpretive Structural Modeling)to analyze the safety control factors and understand correlations between factors and found that sufficient acquirement of legal shipping equipment and freight (or passenger) management factors are the safety control factors that give the biggest effect on the management of coastal shipping companies. ISM analysis results are as follows. The factors that most influence the advancement of safety management is ensured the legal faithful to ship equipment. In the future, a survey have to multiple targets and to improve the practical needs by using a FSM (Structural Fuzzy Modelling).

With the advent of the Internet era, most industries are actively taking part in the web-based electronic commerce markets. To come up with the trend, Korean shipping companies have built their own websites and tried to take advantage of the state-of-the-art technology. This paper aims to analyze recent developments in e-commerce of shipping industry and, Also the study suggests several solutions to invigorate the virtual transactions. To analyze recent developments, this paper carries out a cases study on the websites of 5 major shipping companies in Korea. Each sites are evaluated with respect to 4C's(Contents, Commerce, Community, Connection) analysis.

Currently, container transport services play a substantial role in global cargo transportation, by serving as an intermodal between exporter and importer. Container shipping has become increasingly important over the past few decades, due to obvious advantages. However, Vietnam's container market has shown severely ongoing competition among numerous domestic and foreign shipping lines, resulting in serious consequences occurring such as freight rates substantially decreasing within the last 10 years. Vietnam's sea lanes have become more defensive, to cover losses of shipping companies. Selection of criteria for competitive evaluation of container transport companies is necessary, to facilitate addressing the problems within the enterprise, especially relating to its position in the market and from here, business management can implement strategic plans and reasonable policy, to survive and grow.

From Quality Management System in early 1990, through Safety Management System in 1998, to Maritime Security System in 2002, the shipping/port industries had no choice but to accept such management systems as occasion demands or compulsory in recent 10 years. Furthermore some companies have introduced other system such as Environment Management System(ISO 14000), Occupational Health & Safety Assesment Series(OHSAS 18000) additionally. But most companies have introduced & implemented the quality, safety & security management system generally. This paper is to suggest the effective measurement & improvement plan of Quality Management System.

Tonnage taxation has contributed to developing the Korean maritime industry through tax relief for shipping companies. The current tonnage taxation relies on the net tonnage as an earning-capacity indicator in a merchant ship. Although the tonnage tax accords with horizontal equity, it does not match vertical equity because of the different taxable capacities of an individual company. Nowadays, maritime transport uses a dedicated vessel, and each shipping freight embeds a different value of time. It means the tonnage taxation regime should consider the added value of each shipping freight. Meanwhile, as the environmental regulations led by the International Maritime Organization are being strengthened, the Korean merchant fleet must be eco-friendly soon after. This study explores the alternative to renewing tonnage taxation by utilizing the Greenship certification and considering the ability-to-pay principle. Because the Greenship certification scheme encourages shipping decarbonization, maritime transport by a certified ocean-going vessel comes to be treated as an activity for the green economy. Special taxation for the green economy may contribute to shipping sustainability and market competitiveness.

The aim of this study is to identify the difference of the customer satisfaction before and after establishment of Busan Port Authority with focus on container terminals in Busan Port. As a result, the customer satisfaction varies according to customer types, and it has been changed followed by container port environment. Therefore suitable strategies have to establish, i.e. berth number for large shipping company, connectivity for feeder company, and activity of customer attraction for terminal operating company.

The purpose of this study was to explore the regulations and operational problems of on-board training, and to investigate and analyze the satisfaction level of consignment on-board training among students who completed their training at Korea Maritime & Ocean University. In terms of satisfaction differences by gender, female students generally had a higher relative satisfaction level than male students. The different types of satisfaction in the navigation and engineering categories, the overall practical effect and satisfaction level of the training records shows that the satisfaction level of the trainee is much lower than that of the trainee, so relevant educational institutions and shipping companies need to take measures to improve the satisfaction level of this part. The most important part of the comprehensive company evaluation completed by trainees asked whether they thought the training was equivalent in labor to the employees. Results suggest shipping companies must make a clear distinction between employees and trainees, while establishing relevant internal procedures so that the on-board training process can be carried out in accordance with the purpose of the on-board training consignment.

The mutual risk management in port is really important for operating the enterprise between container terminals who provide port service and shipping liners who use the port service. This study is performed to contribute to obtain the competitive power of domestic shipping and harbor industry by getting solution of mutual risk management which can make Win-Win strategy on each other as an alternative idea. We suggested two kinds of management models to promote common benefits between container terminals and shipping liners. It is necessary to push positive support and cooperation from government and belonging related organizations for activating the Gwangyang port. In this study, we presented the efficient method to manage mutual risks between container terminals and shipping liners.
