FSM을 이용한 해기사 신규채용 및 선사선택에 관한 의식구조분석 (Structural Analysis of Consciousness on the Shipping Companies, Employment of Marine Junior Officers and their Choosing these Companies, Using Fuzzy Structural Modeling)

  • Recently, in the shipping companies have been employing prudently in order to prevent from sea accidents occurred by human factors. Also the students of merchant marine universities are choosing prudently the shipping companies when taking a job. But many qualitative and quantitative factors are considered in decision making for the employment and the choice of a company. FSM(Fuzzy Structural Modeling) has been widely used in modeling the system composed of such qualitative and quantitative factor. In this paper, a case study is discussed for the analysis of the consciousness of the employment of shining companies and students' choice of such company in maritime university using FSM. Also this paper proposed the planes for educating and recruitment guiding the student in maritime university.

The Effects of Slow Steaming on the Liners' Operating Strategy

  • In recent times, an obvious strategy in liner shipping markets that has come to the fore is slow steaming. Nowadays, most liner shipping companies have decelerated the voyage speed to 15-18 knots on major routes, and some leading liner shipping companies have a plan to reduce it to below 15 knots. Slow steaming is helpful in reducing the operating cost and the amount of greenhouse-gas emissions on a single vessel with lower fuel consumption. However, it also creates various negative effects such as the opportunity cost, additional fixed costs and an in-transit inventory cost on a loop. Hence, the net operating cost on a loop is changing dynamically due to the changes of voyage speed based on various slow steaming effects. The aim of this study is to analyze the slow steaming effects in the liner shipping, and to find the best voyage speed that minimizes the operating cost on a loop. Moreover, this study suggests the recommendable strategy for liner shipping companies. To achieve the aim of this study, a simulation model has been designed using System Dynamics.

  • 해외 해운항만물류시장의 확대 및 진출에 따라 우리나라 선진 해운항만물류분야의 기술 이전을 위한 연수프로그램 수요가 증가하고 있다. 그러나 현재 시행되고 있는 해운항만물류분야 연수프로그램은 단기적인 성과는 있지만 국내 물류기업이 해외시장에 진출하는데 활용도가 매우 낮다. 따라서, 본 연구는 국내 물류기업의 해외진출 현황을 살펴보고 현재 추진중인 연수프로그램의 운영 실태와 문제점을 분석하여 국내 해운항만물류기업이 성공적으로 해외시장에 진출할 수 있는 연수프로그램 활용 방안을 제안하고자 한다.

A Study on the Introduction of Quality Management System for Improving the International Competitive Power of Shipping Companies in Korea

  • The paper reviews briefly of the codes above, together with the effects of the successful introduction of the QMS into the shipping industry. This paper suggests a conceptual prototype for a quality management system (QMS) of seafaring labour, which itself would be a sub-system of the total quality management (TQM) system in a shipping company, on the basis of the ISM and the ISMA Codes, ISO 9002, ISO 9004, and other quality management guidelines. The QMS is essential for the survival of the Korean shipping industry. It will contribute not only to assuring the quality of crew, but also, consequently, to increasing the international competitive edge of the shipping companies in Korea.

우리나라 해운선사의 사회적 책임활동 선행요인이 직무만족에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of CSR Leading Factors of Korean Shipping Companies on CSR Implementation and Job Satisfaction)

  • 기업의 사회적 책임에 대한 중요성이 커지면서 다양한 산업에서 그 성과를 규명한 연구들은 활발하게 이루어져 왔으나, CSR을 이끄는 선행요인에 관한 연구는 매우 제한적으로 이루어져 왔다. 본 연구는 CSR이 당면과제로 부상하고 있는 해운선사를 대상으로 CSR의 실행에 영향을 미치는 조직 내·외부 요인을 실증적으로 규명하였다. 국내 해운선사 43개 기업을 대상으로 Smart PLS 3.0과 SPSS 18.0을 이용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과, 선사의 조직 내부 요인으로 CSR에 대한 기대, 최고경영자의 지원, 재무적 자원은 모두 CSR실행에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 다음으로 선사의 조직 외부 요인으로 규제변화, 화주의 요구수준은 선사의 CSR 실행에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 반면, 경쟁사의 대처수준은 기각되었다. 선사의 CSR실행은 종업원들의 직무만족도를 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 국내 선사들의 CSR 실행력을 높이기 위해 어떤 요인들이 동인으로 작용하는지 실증적으로 규명하였다는데 의의가 있다.

  • Recently, Korea shipping companies have been internally/externally difficult to manage their fleet due to the high price of bunker, wage and low cost of charterage and freight. To solve these problems, some shipping companies have tried to set up a new business regarding offshore plant supply vessel(OSV). Owing to the absence of big oil field near the Korea coast, OSV market has not been gradually progressing as far. This study intends to review the legal review of both international and municipal law for the OSV. Therefore I have provided basic legal information to the domestic shipping companies which have desired to enter the OSV's market and suggest legal revision harmoniously to identify the problem in the municipal law.

  • The world economy has came into unlimited competition with globalization since 1990. Opening markets to the world is in progress through the expansion of world free trade and internationalization of multinational enterprises. In the maritime transportation for world trade, shipping companies pursue "Hub & Spoke" strategy so a port which is not able to be located as a hub port is degraded as a feeder port. To attract shipping companies, it is necessary for existing ports to provide differentiated service. This paper devises marketing strategies for a competitive port after evaluating relation among the factors affecting port selection when a shipping company chooses a port of call. On the basis of determinants derived from existing researches, we study the relation as well as importance among the factors of port selection.

  • According to result of this paper, shipping companies tend to choose a third party logistics company that is able to provide consulting services that is the core of the administration of distribution. Shipping companies expect that the consulting services would be able to increase the efficiency through utilizing not logistics functions of shipping, unloading, storage, and information but performance indices of logistics activities. Because shipping companies generally regard that third party logistics not only has no expertise but also is small, in order to activate third-party logistics industry, the consulting services should be improved.

국적외항선사의 시장집중도 분석 (A Study on the Market Concentration Analysis of Korean Ocean-going Shipping Companies)

  • 본연구는 매출액 기준 세 가지 분석에 따라 국적외항선사들의 시장 지배력 변화를 분석하고 이를 통해 정부의 선택과 집중에 기반한 해운 재건정책 전략의 효과를 살펴보고자 하였다. 세 가지 분석 결과 모두 2019-2021년 최근 3년간 CR4(Concentration Ratio)값 및 HHI(Hirschman-Herfindahl Index)값이 증가하여 국적외항선사의 시장구조는 경쟁시장에서 다소 집중된 시장으로 변했음을 알 수 있었다. 특히, 원양컨테이너선사(i.e. HMM과 SM상선)의 시장 점유율이 역내아시아선사 및 부정기선사에 비해 크게 상승하였으며, 컨테이너 정기선 해운시장의 경우 독점시장 또는 고집중적 과점시장화가 된 것으로 나타났다. 타 시장에 비해 원양 컨테이너 운임의 높은 상승은 원양컨테이너 선사의 시장지배력 강화에 매우 큰 영향을 미쳤으며 여기에 정부지원으로 인한 선대확충으로 초과 수익을 달성했다고 볼 수 있다. 결과론적으로 정부의 선대확대전략은 기대 이상의 결과를 낸 것으로 해석할 수 있으나 우리나라 국적선사의 시장구조가 견고해 졌는지 결론을 내기는 한계가 있다.

How Shipping Company Satisfies Shippers Through Service Quality in South Korea: The Mediation Role of Trust

  • Purpose - This study aims to verify the direct causal relationship between cost competitiveness and global network competitiveness, which are the tangible service quality factors determined by the shipping company, which in turn affect the shipper's customer satisfaction. Additionally, we empirically investigate the intangible, related service qualities determined by shipping companies, such as operational competitiveness and customer relationship quality, and how these then positively affect customer satisfaction through the formation of trust. Therefore, we examine the mediating effect of trust formation among different contractors for shipping services. Design/methodology - In order to examine the shipping company's tangible and intangible service-qualities perceived by the shipper on customer satisfaction and the process of trust formation between contractors, we collected valid data from 114 respondents out of 200 distributed questionnaires. The respondents consisted of domestic freight forwarders who engage with domestic and international shipping and logistics agencies. Descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, reliability, convergent and discriminant validities, common method bias, and PLS-SEM (partial least square-structural equation model) were analyzed using the program STATA 16. Findings - The findings of this study are as follows. First, our results showed that all hypotheses assumed in this study had statistically significant supporting evidence. Second, it was found that the mediating effect of trust was significant in affecting the quality of intangible service- qualities for customer satisfaction. Third, through supplementary analysis, we found that the global network competitiveness of domestic shipping companies will increase in importance in the future. In conclusion, the theoretical and practical implications of these findings are presented. Originality/value - This study reaffirmed the traditional causal relationship between customer satisfaction and tangible service quality. Additionally, we also contribute to the literature on the understanding of the causal relationship between trust formation and customer satisfaction through intangible interactions from a long-term perspective.
