This study examines the view of global trends in the Arctic Shipping. It is also provides a framework for understanding how participated in Arctic. The trends that had made it a centre of global attention. Surge of interest in its economy and politics has increased. That surge was driven by three things. Political and business agreements in the Arctic and with Arctic states, a trend that is likely to continue as the Arctic warms.

This study reviews maritime transport policy regarding liner conference and the changes in the liner market over the decades. Liner shipping industry has long been protected from competition by block exemption. To prevent excessive competition in punctual operation and its inelastic market structure, liner shipping companies formed conferences that are protected to fix the prices under the law. In the US, deregulation in transport sector began from 80's and continuing with OSRA 1998, conferences were dissolving. On the other hand, the EU with close conference system, Regulation 4056/86 contained block exemption remained in force for unlimited time without review clause. However, in Oct 2008, the EU has announced its removal, and conferences were no longer permitted to fix the price nor exchange information. Although OSRA 1998 has already broken up conferences by allowing individual service contracts, but the repeal of the immunity for price fixing will alter significantly the rule on cooperation in the industry since it is a unilateral move by the EU, especially in transatlantic lane. There are rapid changes in shipping market getting much more complicated, and with removal of 4056/86 allowing the market to be more competitive, opening up the industry with far more diverse strategic options. Hence this paper reviews on liner shipping industry and its changes of policies over the years from protected market to open competition market of today.

Recently, in the shipping companies have been employing prudently in order to prevent from sea accidents occurred by human factors. Also the students of merchant marine universities are choosing prudently the shipping companies when taking a job. But many qualitative and quantitative factors are considered in decision making for the employment. FSM(Fuzzy Structural Modeling) has been widely used in modeling the system composed of such qualitative and quantitative factor. In this paper, a case study is discussed for the analysis of the consciousness of the employment of shipping companies using FSM. Also this paper proposed the planes for educating and recruitment guiding the student in maritime university.

In the 21st century, maritime industry is the field, which play an important role in the improvement of human. Due to geographical conditions and the development of technology, the demanding of human can be solved easier by shipping. With the advantage of the location and the help of modern technology, maritime in dustry bring various advantage for HaiPhong. In this field in general or the job such as assistant, marketing and the contribution of women is undeniable. Meanwhile, with the field of shipping, there are some problems, which are preventing women from the work of seafaring. However, in the current, female employees are necessary in all the work, the thinking of the job for only male still exit in the brain of citizen. Therefore, the solutions for this problem need to set not only in maritime industry but also for the others heavy industry.

The use of the internet to facilitate commerce among companies promises vast benefits. Lots of e-marketplaces are building for several industries such as chemistry, airplane, and automobile industries. This study proposed new B2B EC business model for the shipping industry which concerns relatively massive fixed assets to be fully utilized. To be successful the proposed model gives participants to support useful information. To do this the expert system is constructed as the hybrid prediction system of neural network (NN) and memory based reasoning (MBR) with self-organizing map (SOM) and knowledge augmentaton technique using qualitative reasoning (QR). The expert system supports participants useful information coping with dynamic market environment. with this transportation companies are induced to participate in the proposed e-marketplace and helped for exchanges easily. Also participants would utilize their assets fully through B2B exchanges.

A satellite shipping container must afford the satellite a relatively benign thermal, vibration, and particle environment that is oblivious to the extreme temperatures, sand, dust, vibrations, and shock that can accompany the transportation. Recently, in the whole fields of industry including shipping business, the conception and importance of Human Factor is very highly and frequently emphasized. But the domestic crew disaster including injury and illness in our shipping business shows higher accident rate than other shipping countries. Therefore the developing of measurec to prevent/reduce the accident is highly required as the marine accident including crew disaster cause enormous loss of property and human life in size and scale. But, because the domestic data regarding the crew accident are relatively insufficient and rare, the developing of these measures has many difficulties. Therefore, this study is to make the concerning data for the useful reference by showing the trend and current situation of crew accidents, assorted by the crew's rank, type of the accident, injured part of the body, cause of the accident, type of ships and type of the works when the accident occurred, by using the each ocean-going shipping company's recent 5 years('95∼'99) data in korea.

This paper addresses the design of container liner shipping service networks by explicitly taking into account empty container repositioning and container fleet size. Two key and interrelated issues of deployments of ships and containers are usually treated separately by most existing studies on shipping network design. In this paper, both issues are considered simultaneously. The problem is formulated as a two-stage problem: the upper-problem being formulated as a Knapsack problem and the lower-problem as a Flow problem. A genetic algorithm based heuristic is developed for the problem. Through a number of numerical experiments that were conducted it was shown that the problem considering empty container repositioning provides a more insightful solution than the one without.
