Application of a Dynamic Positioning System to a Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship (MASS)

  • The development and introduction of a Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship (MASS) are some of the most important changes leading to the fourth industrial era in the maritime area. The term 'MASS' refers to a ship operating independently, without human intervention, to reduce maritime accidents caused by human errors. Recent UK findings MASS also noted that particularly the dynamic positioning system will be considered to apply as newly function to a MASS. The DP system, a ship system developed decades ago and used for specific purposes like offshore operations, provides various functions to facilitate the accurate movements of the vessel, and operators can make decisions within the DP system, in addition to the ordinary ship system. In this paper, it would like to present the connection and application method with the main technical elements of the DP system in connection with the main technology of the DP system to achieve the safe operation of a MASS. In particular, among various position reference systems, the capability plot function of DP system, and the "follow target" mode in the operation mode are attractive functions that can contribute to the safe operation of autonomous ships.

  • The early construction of the internet based ship basic planning supporting system based on the concurrent engineering and the internet technology is essential as a means for the improvement of technology and design productivity our ship building industry is facing currently. Further more, technological base construction for the construction for the construction of the cooperation system on the level of ship building industry is necessary for the technological base security to maintain and develop ship building industry continuosly in the 21st century of the information industry environment and for the technological improvement of the middle and small shipyard falling behind relatively and finally for the breaking through our ship building industry environment in which inter-enterprise competition is deeping. In this study, we designed the frame-system of the ship design supporting system and presented the development scenario based on core element technology.

  • In the recent years, major ship registers have demanded improved safety on the hull stress of large bulk carriers which are on navigation or cargo handling in harbour. Under these circumstances, a system that monitors hull stress and ship condition is being more and more important. If efficient and appropriate navigational information is given, safety of navigation would be greatly improved. The major ship registers of the globe are investing a great effort on the development of a system that monitors the hull stress of ship. Using this system, information of hull stress and ship motion is given to the users and also the data is stored on the external data storage system simultaneously. Through this study, a software that monitors hull stress was developed. Not only can randomized input-data of the standard hardwares be applied to the system, but also this system can be operated on and applied to real hardware systems.

자기조직화지도를 이용한 추진시스템의 전력부하분석 연구 (Study on Load Analysis of Propulsion System using SOM)

  • Recently, environmental regulations have been strengthened for SOX, NOX, and CO2, which are ship exhaust gases. In addition, according to the 4th Industrial Revolution, research on autonomous ship technology has become active and interest in electric propulsion systems is increasing. This paper analyzes the power load characteristics of an electric propulsion ship, which is the basic technology for an autonomous ship, in terms of energy management. For the load analysis, data were collected for a 6,800 TEU container ship with a mechanical propulsion system, and the propulsion load was converted to an electric power load and clustered according to the characteristics using a SOM (Self-Organizing Map). As a result of the load analysis, it was confirmed that the load characteristics of the ship could be explained by the operation mode of the ship.

  • 연료전지 기반의 전력시스템이 선박 및 해양플랜트에 다양한 형태로 적용되고 있다. 특히, 연료전지와 배터리를 연계한 토폴로지에 관한 하이브리드 전력시스템에 관한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 이러한 연료전지 기반의 하이브리드 선박은 개발 초기 단계로 통합 모니터링 시스템에 연구가 이루어지고 있지 않다. 본 논문에서는 통합 모니터링 시스템을 연구하여 하이브리드 연료전지 선박의 안정적인 운항 및 운항자 편리성을 높이고자 한다. 연료전지 선박의 통합 모니터링 시스템은 사용자 편의성 및 선박 운항 안정성을 고려하여 GUI(Graphic User Interface)기반으로 구성하였으며, 선박 주요장비와 통신 및 하드와이어 신호로 연동되어 선박의 상태를 실시간으로 확인할 수 있도록 한다. 수집된 데이터는 저장하여 추후 운항자가 선박 운항 상태를 확인할 수 있도록 구현하였다.

비전 센서 및 딥러닝 기반 선박 접안을 위한 어라운드뷰 모니터링 시스템 (Vision Sensor and Deep Learning-based Around View Monitoring System for Ship Berthing)

  • This paper proposes vision sensors and deep learning-based around view monitoring system for ship berthing. Ship berthing to the port requires precise relative position and relative speed information between the mooring facility and the ship. For ships of Handysize or higher, the vesselships must be docked with the help of pilots and tugboats. In the case of ships handling dangerous cargo, tug boats push the ship and dock it in the port, using the distance and velocity information receiving from the berthing aid system (BAS). However, the existing BAS is very expensive and there is a limit on the size of the vessel that can be measured. Also, there is a limitation that it is difficult to measure distance and speed when there are obstacles near the port. This paper proposes a relative distance and speed estimation system that can be used as a ship berthing assist system. The proposed system is verified by comparing the performance with the existing laser-based distance and speed measurement system through the field tests at the actual port.

  • A new concept of ocean transport system, called mobile harbor, was introduced as a feasibility study in Korea in 2009. Target of the mobile harbor is a smart distance transport of containers with or without cargo handling cranes. Although the mobile harbor project has a lot of topics to deal with, this paper is to focus on only ship-to-ship stabilized mooring, which plays a key role in cargo handling. The ship-to-ship stabilized mooring system was developed and installed on beard a barge of LOA 32m and breadth 12m. The dockside tests as sea test were carried out so as to ascertain ascertained whether the systems can work well to control the barge's motion. The results of dockside test showed that the heave motion of the barge's motion can be reduced by more than 45%.

선박검사제도 패러다임 전환에 관한 고찰 (A Study on Paradigm Shift of Ship Inspection System)

  • UN해양법협약 제94조에 따르면 기국은 자국선박의 안전 확보를 위한 총체적 역할을 다하여야 하며, 관련 조치로서 선박검사제도를 운영하여야 한다. 대한민국 정부(해양수산부)는 해사안전 증진의 목적을 위해 해양사고 저감을 목표로 설정한 관련 정책을 시행하였으나 목표를 달성하지 못하고 있다. 선박검사제도는 해양사고 예방을 위한 조치로서 실효성 있는 제도의 운영을 위해서는 현행 선박검사제도의 원류(原流)에 대한 충분한 이해가 필요하다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 국제적 선박검사제도의 기원과 시대적 패러다임 변화에 대한 분석을 통해 선박검사제도의 국제적 동향을 파악하였다. 최근 선박검사제도의 국제적 패러다임은 '국제표준화'와 선사(선주)의 능동적 안전관리의 중요성이 커지고 있음을 확인하였다. 이에 근거하여 국내 선박검사제도의 패러다임 전환방안으로 'PDCA Cycle 기반 자체검사제도'의 도입을 제시하였다. 이는 해사안전의 효과성을 향상시키기 위한 ISO 9000 시리즈의 기본 철학을 바탕으로 선박검사제도 이해관계자의 역할을 정립한 새로운 형태의 선박검사제도이다. 더불어 인류는 'COVID-19'의 팬더믹 상황에 따라 비대면 선박검사제도의 필요성이 대두되고 있어 이에 대한 대안으로서 'ICT기술의 빠른 발전'이란 시대적 환경변화에 따른 '모바일 애플리케이션 기반 선박검사제도' 전환을 제안하였다.

선박 에너지 효율 모니터링 시스템 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of Ship Energy Efficiency Monitoring System)

  • 본 연구에서는 선내 수집데이터를 활용하는 선박 및 육상 서비스를 위한 선박용 어플리케이션 시스템과 해상 데이터 통합관리 및 상호교환을 위한 선육 간 통합 시스템을 활용한 선박 에너지효율 모니터링 시스템을 설계하였다. 선박 에너지효율 모니터링 시스템은 윈도우 기반의 응용프로그램으로 file base EDI 통신을 이용하도록 구성하였다. 주요기능으로 연료소모량 최소화를 위한 항로 계획, 에너지 소모 및 배출가스 배출 모니터링, 선박 에너지 효율 분석 및 분석데이터 분석을 구현하고 실 운항선박에 적용하여 시스템의 정상 동작을 확인하였다.
