마그네타이트 자성유체를 이용한 기름밀봉 장치 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fabrication of Oil Seal Appartus by use of the Magnetite Magnetic Fluid)

  • 친수성-고점도 자성유체를 Nd-영구자석과 병용하여 기름밀봉 장치로의 개발을 목표로 실험 검토하였다. etylene glycol 액상중에 $Fe_{3}O_{4}$를 분산시킨 자성유체는 매질의 비등점이 다른 액상보다 높고 점성이 높아서 기름밀봉 성능을 향상시킬 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 본 장치의 부품중 대부분 을 이루고 있는 철강재를 부식시키지 않았다. 본 자성유체중 $Fe_{3}O_{4}$ 농도가 증가할수록 점도 와 자성율이 증가하여 기름밀봉 성능을 향상시킬 수 있었다. 본 장치는 대기압하에서 기름밀봉 성능이 매우 우수하였다.

A Design and Measurement of a Reference Signal Generator for a Radar System

  • This paper discusses the design and fabrication of a reference signal generator for a naval radar system, including the vibration environment test. The transmit signals of the S-band radar system are synthesized by the reference signal and the phase noise must lower than - 130 dBc/Hz at a 10 kHz offset frequency. To achieve this specification, the phase noise of the reference signal needs to be less than -165 dBc/Hz at a 10 kHz offset. For achieving very low phase noise performance by the reference signal generator, the phase locked loop technique is applied with a 10 Hz loop bandwidth. Also, this reference signal generator has ${\pm}0.35\;ppb$ short-term stability to minimize instant phase errors and high vibration sensitivity against a ship's shaking, unbalanced rotating of antennas and so on.

조선소 WPS/PQR 관리 DB시스템 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on Developing Database System for Management of WPS/PQR in Shipyard)

  • WPS/PQR is the essential documents for shipbuilding welding. WPS is the document containing the information related to welding procedure and PQR is the record of approval for welding procedure. Both documents should be approved by the ship owners and the classification societies. It is very important to manage these documents because the welding procedure using these documents could not be carried out before they are approved. Database is an useful tool to manage these documents. It can manage a number of documents and show the processing status of WPS/PQR documents. In this study, all documents related to WPS/PQR documents were investigated and analyzed in the viewpoint of DB. An appropriate DB system was designed for WPS/PQR and the related documents on the basis of CBD methodology. The DB system could make WPS/PQR documents easily and shortly. The grasp of the processing status of WPS/ PQR could help the good management of fabrication schedule in shipbuilding.

최소 2차 가공을 위한 이중 곡면의 롤러 굽힘 형상 결정 (A Determination of Approximated Cylindrical Surfaces of Doubly Curved Surfaces for the Least Line Heating)

  • 선박의 선미부와 선수부는 복잡한 곡을 가진 블록들의 조립으로 만들어진다. 이러한 복잡한 곡률 분포를 가진 이중 곡면을 성형하기 위해서 조선소에서는 롤러 굽힘 가공과 선상 가열을 이용하고 있다. 일차적으로는 롤러 굽힘에 의한 가공으로 실린더 형상이나 원추 형상의 곡면을 만들고 난 후, 선상 가열을 수행하여 목적 형상으로 이차 가공을 한다. 본 논문은 곡면 가공에서 선행되는 일차 가공의 정보로서 가공 방향과 가공 후 형상을 결정하는데 목적이 있다. 목적 형상의 가우스 변환(Gauss mapping)으로부터 가공 방향에 관한 정보를 결정하고 목적 형상과 롤러 굽힘 가공에 의해 변형된 판 사이의 기하학적 관계를 이용하여 롤러 굽힘 가공의 모양을 결정하는 알고리즘을 제시하였다.

곡판 가공의 인라인 완성도 평가에 관한 연구(I) (A Study on the In-line Assessment of Completion for Fabrication of Curved Plates(I))

  • In the line heating for the plate forming of a ship's hull, an in line assessment of completion is necessary for an automated production system. In the current curved plate forming process, a fabricated plate is compared to a template that is made in the mold loft and is used for the determination of the heating line for the next step. In this paper, a new method is presented for the in line assessment of completion for curved plate forming. This method uses a 3-D scanner. For the registration of the scanned data for a surface and the target surface, the ICP (Iterative Closest Points) method was adopted. A computer program was developed to carry out the registration, check for similarities, visualize the surface, and control the results. This program was applied to a sample curved plate forming process.

  • Through the case study, we surveyed the performance of a CNC-T BAR system on irregular-shaped building construction project. By CNC T-BAR system, we mean a surface curvature control system has been used in aircraft and ship manufacturing by controlling entire surface points on shape. For the past 10 year, the number of irregularly-shaped building design and construction project has been increased, and also the studies on irregular-shaped construction methods have been conducted. However, the previous studies did not review on the performance of the CNC T-BAR system. We collected construction-completed cases in Korea, which applied the CNC T-BAR system, and we studied its performance by comparing with a segment system in terms of construction duration and its quality. The result shows that the CNC T-BAR system can shorten the construction duration comparing with segment-assembly system while maintaining high quality. The CNC T-BAR system is expected to apply on the more number of irregularly-shape building construction project.

  • Since its invention at TWI in 1991, Friction Stir Welding (FSW) has become a major joining process in the aerospace, railway and ship building industries especially in the fabrication of aluminium alloys. In an attempt to optimize the friction stir welding process of Al alloys for extrusion Aluminium carbody of HEMU-400X (Extrusion Aluminum 6xxx series), effects of joining parameters such as tool rotating speed, plunging depth and dwelling time on the weld joints properties were evaluated. Experimental tests were carried out for butt joined Al plates. A wide range of joining conditions could be applied to join Al alloys for Extrusion Aluminum 6xxx series without defects in the weld zone except for certain welding conditions with an insufficient heat input. The microstructures of welds have dynamic-recrystallized grain similar to stir zone in FSW weld. For sound joints without defects, at the rotation speed of 700 rpm with different welding speeds, the tensile strengths of the Stir Zone(SZ) were almost the same, 80% of those of the base metal.   • Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) has been used in shipping and offshore industries for many years, supporting the decision-making process to guarantee safe running at different stages of design, fabrication and throughout service life. The assessments of a risk perspective are informed by the frequency of events (probability) and the associated consequences. As the number of offshore platforms increases, so does the length of subsea pipelines, thus there is a need to extend this approach and enable the subsea industry to place more emphasis on uncertainties. On-board operations can lead to objects being dropped on subsea pipelines, which can cause leaks and other pipeline damage. This study explains how to conduct hit frequency analyses of subsea pipelines, using historical data, and how to obtain a finite number of scenarios for the consequences analysis. An example study using probabilistic methods is used.

선체 박판구조의 용접변형 제어에 관한 연구(I) (On the Weld-Induced Deformation Control of Ship's Thin Plate Block (I))

  • Although weld-induced deformation is inevitable in shipbuilding, it is important to reduce it as low as possible during fabrication for a more efficient production of ships' blocks. The weld-induced deformation is more serious in thin plates than in thick plates because heat affect zone of thin plates is wider than that of thick plates, and in addition internal and external constraints much more influence upon weld-induced deformation of thin plates. This paper deals with the application of the mechanical tensioning method to butt weld of thin plates to reduce the transverse and longitudinal deformation. in order to investigate the quantitative effect of tensioning method upon the reduction of angular deformation and shrinkage in longitudinal and transverse direction of weld line, butt welding test have been carried out for several thin plate specimens with varying plate thickness and magnitude of tensile load. Numerical simulation has been also carried out to compare the weld-induced deformation and residual stress. From the present study, it has been found that the tensioning method is very effective on reduction of weld-induced residual stress as well as weld-induced deformation.

Mechanical properties and production quality of hand-layup and vacuum infusion processed hybrid composite materials for GFRP marine structures

  • Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) structures are primarily manufactured using hand lay-up or vacuum infusion techniques, which are cost-effective for the construction of marine vessels. This paper aims to investigate the mechanical properties and failure mechanisms of the hybrid GFRP composites, formed by applying the hand lay-up processed exterior and the vacuum infusion processed interior layups, providing benefits for structural performance and ease of manufacturing. The hybrid GFRP composites contain one, two, and three vacuum infusion processed layer sets with consistent sets of hand lay-up processed layers. Mechanical properties assessed in this study include tensile, compressive and in-plane shear properties. Hybrid composites with three sets of vacuum infusion layers showed the highest tensile mechanical properties while those with two sets had the highest mechanical properties in compression. The batch homogeneity, for the GFRP fabrication processes, is evaluated using the experimentally obtained mechanical properties.
