Marine transportation system plays an important role in maintaining and promoting economic activities among countries. The accurate understanding of marine traffic flows are necessary for the further advancement of marine transportation system. While many existing researches on marine traffic have been conducted mainly on the basis of statistical analysis using traffic data, ship's traffic flow simulation model was developed in this study. A collision avoidance algorithm was conducted with categorizing of traffic factors such as ship's length and speed. The developed model was also verified by a simulation process.
In this paper, an application program is made to simulate the behavior of a ship block under various crane works and to generate data of lu9 reactions and wire tensions. The program is based on a CAD program, Pro/ENGINEER. A ship is composed of more than 100 ship blocks. In order to lift, move, turn, or put a ship block at a convenient location fur assembling, workers in a shipyard use cranes, wires, and lugs temporarily attached to the block. In the procedure of lifting and turning a ship block with a crane, it is important to find suitable lug points and wires to do the handling efficiently and prevent accidents. Evaluation of forces in lugs and wires is necessary, but the problem is rather complex due to nonlinearity and nonuniqueness. In the present development, the nonlinear system of equations for quasi-static equilibriums is derived and a Newton type solution method is adopted to solve the system. The importance of initial estimates to the solution is illustrated and two approaches are utilized and compared. With the program developed, users can assign lug points on the CAD model by mouse and choose various linking devices at each crane point. Users can try to simulate the motion for any prescribed conditions, compare the motion of the block and the reactions and choose appropriate lug points and the type of wires and lugs.

The management of a panel block shop in a shipyard is a complex process that entails the largest amount of work and in which many decisions are involved. Shipbuilders have considered the process as a bottleneck since every panel for every ship and offshore hull structure must be processed through the shop. In order to maximize process productivity, simulation-based ship production execution system(SPEXS) is proposed for panel block operations utilising discrete-event simulation and simulated annealing. An application of panel block assembly shop, called SPEX-Panel supports production planners by general dispatching rules and metaheuristics to make better scheduling decisions on the shop floor. In addition, the system will help increase productivity in the yard with continuous improvement.

The studies on automatic ship collision avoidance system, which have been carried out last 10 years, are facing on new situation due to newly developed high technology such as computer and other information system. It was almost impossible to make it used in real navigation 3-4 years ago because of the absence of the tool to get other ship's information, however recently developed technology suggests new possibility. This study is carried out to develop the algorithm of automatic ship collision support system. The NOMOTO ship's mathematic model is adopted in simulation for its simplicity. The fuzzy reason rules are used for course-keeping system and for the calculation of Collision Risk using TCPA/DCPA. Moreover‘encounter type’ between two ships is analyzed based on Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea and collision avoidance action is suggested, Some situations are simulated to verity the developed algorithm and appropriate avoidance action is shown in the simulation.
The studies on automatic ship collision avoidance system, which have been carried out in the last 10 years, are facing on new situation due to newly developed high technology such as computer and other information system. It was almost impossible to make it used in real navigation field 3-4 years ago because of the absence of any tool to give other ship's information, however recently developed technology suggests new possibility. This study is carried out to develop the automatic ship collision avoidance support system which considers ship's manoeuvrability into it's collision avoidance algorithm. One of the important part in ship collision avoidance system is collision decision module which can calculate collision risk with other ships and act properly to avoid the situation. Many of previous researches are using present ship's dynamic data such as present speed, position and course to calculate collision risk. However when a ship commences avoidance action, the real situation is quite different with one that has been estimated by the ship's initial data due to the ship's manoeuvring characteristic. Therefore it is better to take into account ship's manoeuvring characteristic from the stage of collision decision in ship collision avoidance system. In this study, these effects are included in the developed system. The proposed system are verified its usefulness in numerical simulation environments.
Modeling and Simulation (M&S) systems which deal with situational complexity often require human involvement due to the high-level decision-making that is necessary for ship movement, navigation, control center management, shipping company logistics, meteorological system information, and maritime transportation GIS. In order to properly simulate maritime traffic, it is necessary to accurately model the human decision-making process of the ship officer, including aspects of the ship officer's behavioral tendencies, personal navigation experience, and pattern of voyage errors, as this is the most accurate way in which to reproduce and predict realistic maritime traffic conditions. In this paper, which looks at agent-based maritime traffic simulation, we created a basic survey in order to conduct behavior analysis on ship operators' collision avoidance strategies. Using the information gathered throughout the survey, we developed an agent-based navigational behavior model which attempts to capture the behavioral patterns of a ship officer during an instance of ship collision. These results could be used in the future in further developments for more advanced maritime traffic simulation.

Today, many middle-sized shipbuilding companies in Korea are experiencing strong competition from shipbuilding companies in other nations. This competition is particularly affecting small- and middle-sized shipyards, rather than the major shipyards that have their own support systems and development capabilities. The acquisition of techniques that would enable maximization of production efficiency and minimization of the gap between planning and execution would increase the competitiveness of small- and middle-sized Korean shipyards. In this paper, research on a simulation-based support system for ship production management, which can be applied to the shipbuilding processes of middle-sized shipbuilding companies, is presented. The simulation research includes layout optimization, load balancing, work stage operation planning, block logistics, and integrated material management. Each item is integrated into a network system with a value chain that includes all shipbuilding processes.

A new concept of ocean transport system, called mobile harbor, was introduced as a feasibility study in Korea in 2009. Target of the mobile harbor is a smart distance transport of containers with or without cargo handling cranes. Although the mobile harbor project has a lot of topics to deal with, this paper is to focus on only ship-to-ship stabilized mooring, which plays a key role in cargo handling. The ship-to-ship stabilized mooring system was developed and installed on beard a barge of LOA 32m and breadth 12m. The dockside tests as sea test were carried out so as to ascertain ascertained whether the systems can work well to control the barge's motion. The results of dockside test showed that the heave motion of the barge's motion can be reduced by more than 45%.

Wave breaking phenomenon near the fore body of a ship is numerically simulated. The ship advance with uniform velocity in calm water. For the simulation, incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and continuity equation are adopted as governing equations. The simulation is carried out in staggered variable mesh system with finite difference method. Marker and Cell(MAC) method and Marker-Density method are employed to track the free surface. Body boundary conditions are satisfied with the adoption of porosity method and no-slip condition on the hull surface. The ship model has a wedge type fore-body, and the computational domain is an appropriate region around the fore-body. The computation results are compared with some experimental results. Also the difference of the free surface tracking methods are discussed.
