  • A 29-year-old male patient was referred to Dept. of Dentistry due to halitosis and food impaction, who had been diagnosed as progressive systemic sclerosis at Dept. of Dermatology, SNUH. Oromaxillofacially lips were slightly thin, rigid and shiny. Pale gingiva and pinched nose were found also. Radiographically, uniform extreme widening of periodontal ligament space was found.

  • Inspection of BGAs presents several challenges for modem measurement equipment. No only must these systems be fast and accurate, they must deal with the special challenges presented by very small shiny metal spheres. For accurate measurement, we propose an algorithm which fits for estimating the accurate ball height using 2-D curve-fitting algorithm. The real boundary between two adjacent pixels and the real ball diameter are measured with subpixel accuracy Experimental results show that the proposed method calculates the ball height and diameter with subpixel accuracy and is robust in local noise with low measurement error.

  • In this paper, by using fixed point theorem, we obtain the stability of the following functional equations $$f(pr,qs)+g(ps,qr)={\theta}(p,q,r,s)f(p,q)h(r,s)\\f(pr,qs)+g(ps,qr)={\theta}(p,q,r,s)g(p,q)h(r,s)$$, where G is a commutative semigroup, ${\theta}:G^4{\rightarrow}{\mathbb{R}}_k$ a function and f, g, h are functionals on $G^2$.

  • Effects of cathodic overvoltages on the electrodeposition of lead from electrolyte containing lead chloride, ammonium acetate and sodium succinate was investigated at 20$^{\circ}C$. The use of organic additives, phenol and gelatin was found effective to inhibit the growth of dendritic crystals. At the carthodic overvoltages higher than 0.2V, the lead deposit becames less compact even in the presence of organic additives. The applications of agitation and pulse current promoted compact and shiny deposits.

  • A new species, Elsholtzia byeonsanensis M. Kim is named and described from Byeonsan, Jeollabukdo Province, Korea. Molecular data confirmed that this new taxon was distinguished from other congeneric species. Elsholtzia byeonsanensis shares several characteristics (secund spikes, ovate leaves, long corolla length, etc.) with its related species E. splendens, but it is distinct from E. splendens which has a large plant, green stem color, chartaceous leaf textures, non-shiny leaf surfaces, pubescent petioles, pubescent leaf blade surfaces, pubescent bract surface, and open woodland habitats by having a small plant, purple stem color, coriaceous leaf textures, shiny leaf surfaces, glabrous petioles, glabrous leaf blade surfaces, glabrous bract surface, and marine habitats.

  • In March, 2013, twenty symptomatic freesia plants (10 plants of cultivar Shiny Lemon and 10 plants of cultivar Shiny Gold), with striking virus-like symptoms were collected in Cheongju, Korea. The plants showed chlorotic, coalescing, interveinal, whitish, necrotic, mosaic, mottling or dark brown-to-purple necrotic spots on leaves. Freesia crude sap was directly analyzed by transmission electron microscopy, which potyvirus particles as well as long virus-like particles were detected. Total RNA extracts were analyzed for the infection of Freesia sneak virus (FreSV) by reverse transcription (RT)-PCR with primers specific to FreSV coat protein (CP) gene based on the sequences of FreSV isolates (GenBank No. GU071089, FJ807730 and DQ885455), showing 9 of 20 plants were infected. All 1305bp RT-PCR products were cloned and sequenced. Comparisons of nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences using BLAST and bioinformatics tools resulted in 99 to 100% sequence identity with FreSV isolates FOV, Virginia, and Italy, confirming FreSV in 9 symptomatic freesia plants. Of 9 determined cDNAs of FreSV isolates, sequences of 5 cDNA clones were identical (GenBank No. AB811437) and sequences of 4 cDNA clones were identical (GenBank No. AB811792). To our knowledge, this is the first report of FreSV from Freesia spp. in Korea.

  • For rapid production of freesia 'Shiny Gold' shoots by using a bioreactor, several culture conditions were investigated. Young shoots (< 1 cm) obtained from freesia corm section in vitro were used as plant materials for this experiment. As a basic experimental environment, 20 young shoots were inoculated into a 5 L balloon type bubble reactor which contained 1 L 1/2 strength MS medium supplemented with 30 g sucrose (3%), and the aeration was 0.1 vvm (vessel volumes per minute). The bioreactors were placed in a growth room with $23^{\circ}C$ temperature, 60% relative humidity and $60{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ light condition (16 h/8 h, day/night). The concentrations of MS media were set with 1/4, 1/2, 1 strength, medium volume 10, 20, 40%, sucrose concentration 3, 6, 9%, and aeration 0.1, 0.2, 0.4 vvm. After 4 weeks of cultivation, the growth indexes including the fresh and dry weight, and plant height were evaluated. At the same time, the consumption, pH, and EC of medium were estimated 4 weeks after incubating. The best results were achieved when 40 young shoots were incubated in a bioreactor in which 1 L of 1/2 strength MS medium supplemented with 6% sucrose was used for the rapid production of freesia shoots. The shoots were 17 cm in plant height and 1.0 g in fresh weight only 4 weeks after incubation which could be a good plant material suitable for corm enlargement in vitro. No correlation was observed between the growth of freesia shoots and the consumption, pH or EC of medium.

  • This study investigates the characteristic traits of architectural design of Toyo Ito, who has been acclaimed as one of the most famous present-day Japanese architects. Ito' architecture is generally known as media architecture for its specific natures such as lightness, dematerialization, extensive use of shiny glass, etc. In this respect, Ito's architecture is a radical departure from the tradition of the architectural modernism mostly represented by Le Corbusier. In this study, the architectural world of Toyo Ito is divided into four main section: the conversation between architecture and nature, the architecture of the wind, simulation, and virtual reality, Each of these categories is given full investigation together with appropriate architectural model fit into them.

  • Recently, the circuits of fluorescent light-switches are separated for window-light, middle-lights, or corridor-light, etc in most offices and classrooms in this country. Although it is clean and shiny - more than standard intensity of illumination, it is common that fluorescent lights on the side of window are lighted. In this case, we can use a fluorescent light with a sensor, which is turned on and off automatically according to the amount of sunlight. I think that this plan can save energy, reduce the budget, and increase the effect of education. and so I studied on this plan.

  • Since the early 1980's the use of zinc-aluminum alloy-coated steel sheet(Galvalume) for vehicular corrosion protection has increased drastically. It is consisting of 55%Al-43.4% Zn-1.6%Si. Galvalume has a good corrosion resistance, heat reflectivity and shiny appearance, which has a dendritic structure of alloy layer. It has a good corrosion resistance due to dendritic structure. But, this also has a weak point against moisture during long period of transportation as sheeted and or coiled without any relation of chromating on the surface of steel sheet or not because of high humidity and temperature. Here, We studied the corrosion mechanism by the moisture.
