A 11-year, 9-month-old female Shih-tzu was referred for evaluation of the body conditions. According to the physical examination and ultrasonography, the left ovarian mass was detected. For the removal of ovarian mass, an ovariohysterectomy was performed. Grossly, the ovarian mass was full of hairmatrix on the cut surface of the mass. Histopathological findings revealed a characteristic of teratoma, such as laminated keratines, hair, sebaceous glands, neuron tissue, differentiated bone and cartilage. The ovarian mass was well-differentiated components of 2 germ layers, and diagnosed as a mature teratoma.

This study comprised 13 cases having canine perianal adenoma at Veterinary Medical T~aching Hospital, Seoul National University from January 2000 to October 2003. All referred dogs were intact male and mean age of dogs was 11.5 years (ranged from 7 to 15 years). The most prevalent breed was Shih Tzu. The clinical signs were presence of 1 to 5 cm in diameter firm mass, perianal swelling, hemorrhage, pain and dyschezia. The masses were located either in the perineum (12 cases) or tail (5 cases). Five dogs had masses with ulceration. Concurrent prostatomegaly and seminoma was found in 5 and 1, respectively. Castration was performed in 5 cases. In 8 cases, surgical excision of the tumor was performed with castration. There was no recurrence in all cases after removal. In all cases with castration, perianal adenomas were regressed within 1-2 months. In one case among them, excision of the tumor was also performed because of persistent ulceration. According to these clinical results, perianal adenoma excellently responded to castration with or without surgical excision of the tumor.

An eight-year-old Shih-Tzu dog was referred to Kyungpook National University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital because of severe glaucoma and exophthalmos. The symptoms included severe buphthalmos, conjunctival hyperemia, focal dried cornea and discomfort in the affected eye. Although enucleation was considered as a potential intervention measure in light of the severity of symptoms, it was possible to save the globe and relieve symptoms through evisceration, intraocular prosthesis implantation, and lateral canthoplasty. Our experience with this case suggests that symptomatic salvage therapy, rather than enucleation, is an appropriate approach for resolution of exopthalmos and other complications associated with glaucoma surgery.

This clinical report describes hemisection and endodontic treatment of first molar tooth and mandible fracture repair in a dog. A 10 years old spayed female shih-tzu was diagnosed as left mandibular fracture by oral examination and dental radiography. First, partial odontectomy of mesial root of mandibular first molar placed in fracture line was performed, and then endodontic treatment of distal root and bone graft in extraction site was performed. Thereafter the fracture region was fixed with interdental wiring and acryl resin splint. Mandibular fracture site was healed without any complications, observed for 19 weeks follow-up period. Upon this result, this case is proving that fractured mandible can be treated successfully with hemisection followed by bone graft, interdental wiring and acryl resin splint to preserve the remaining tooth for mastication rather than tooth extraction.

A 7-year-old intact female Shih-Tzu with chylothorax was presented. Percutaneous popliteal computed tomographic lymphangiography was performed to evaluate the thoracic duct and seek any potential cause of chylothorax. Despite two attempts, visualization of the thoracic duct failed and perianal subcutaneous computed tomographic lymphangiography with injection of iodinated, nonionic water-soluble contrast medium (0.6 ml/kg) was performed. A single branch of intact thoracic duct and dilated and tortuous lymphatics were detected. It was diagnosed as idiopathic chylothorax. Perianal subcutaneous lymphangiography is considered a less-invasive, easy and reliable method to visualize lymphatics in patients with chylothorax.

A 5-month old Shih Tzu was diagnosed with congenital elbow luxation and uniapical complex angular deformity of the radius. Single radial oblique and dynamic ulnar osteotomies were performed, using patient-specific 3D-printed osteotomy guide. External skeletal fixation was maintained for three weeks to prevent re-luxation of elbow joint. Three months after the surgery, objective gait analysis indicated markedly improved limb function. In addition, radiograph showed improved congruity of elbow joint and appropriate bone healing. In dogs with congenital radial head luxation and concurrent complex angular deformity, a single oblique osteotomy might be a viable option to preserve bone length and correct the luxation of elbow joint.

A 7-year-old spayed female Shih Tzu dog was presented for evaluation of recurrent hypoglycemia. Serum insulin levels during hypoglycemia were 35.3 µIU/mL. Ultrasonography and computed tomography showed a mesenteric nodule between the kidney and the portal vein, but no pancreatic mass was observed. During surgery, the nodule had neither anatomical adhesions nor vascular connections to the pancreas. Pancreatic inspection and palpation revealed no abnormalities. Hypoglycemia improved after resection of the nodule. Histopathological examination confirmed the nodule to be an islet cell carcinoma. Although extremely rare, ectopic insulinoma should be considered as a possible cause of insulininduced hypoglycemia in dogs.

This study proposes a two-dimensional hyperbolic soil spring model for mat foundations in clays subjected to vertically uniform loads to simplify the complexity of three-dimensional finite element analysis on mat foundations. The solutions from three-dimensional finite element analysis were examined to determine the hyperbolic model parameters of the soil springs underneath the slab. Utilizing these model parameters, normalized functions across the middle section of the mat were obtained. The solutions from the proposed model, along with the approximate finite difference analysis of the mat in clays under vertical load, were found to be consistent with those from the three-dimensional finite element analysis. The authors conclude that the proposed method can serve as an alternative for the preliminary design of mat foundations.

5년령의 암컷 시츄견이 일년 동안의 황달, 복수 등의 증상으로 약물 치료를 받다가 호전을 보이지 않아 내원하였다. 혈액검사 결과 간효소 수치의 상승 및 고글로불린혈증과 저알부민혈증이 확인되었으며, 혈액을 이용한 CAV-1 PCR 검사시 음성임을 확인하였다. 일반 방사선 검사 및 복부 초음파 검사를 통해 간의 크기 감소와 간 실질에서의 저에코성의 다발성 결절 및 복수를 관찰하였고, 복수 검사에서 누출성 복수임을 확인하였다. 복부 CT 검사에서 포도송이 모양으로 조영증강효과를 보이는 다발성 결절이 관찰되었다. 간 생검을 통한 조직병리학적 검사 결과 간 세포의 괴사와 섬유양 세포의 침윤을 확인하였다. 위의 검사 결과를 바탕으로 간경화증으로 진단하였다. 이후 정기적으로 혈액검사, 혈청화학검사, 복부 초음파 검사 및 CT 검사를 실시했다. 내과적 보존적 치료를 실시하였고, 환자는 진단한 지 10개월 후에 사망하였다. 본 증례를 통하여 개에서 간경화증의 CT 영상의 특징을 보고하고자 한다.
