  • This study investigated the status and analyzed of stray dogs, stray cats admitted to the Jeju Animal Shelter during the year of 2015 to 2019, and the infection rates of specific diseases for abandoned dogs. In addition, in 2017 to 2019, the collected intake and outcome data were reviewed to analyze shelter capacity in terms of housing capacity (monthly daily average intake, required holding capacity, and adoption-driven capacity), staff capacity (staff hours required for daily care). Out of 24,557 dogs admitted to the shelter, owners of 1,808 dogs (7.4%) visited the shelter and found their lost dogs, while 3,612 dogs (14.7%) were adopted to new families. However, the number of puppies that were euthanized was the highest at 12,266 (49.9%), and 6,876 (28%) died either death from disease or natural causes because they were detained in shelters. The monthly daily average (MDA), which is one of the indicators for efficient population management of Jeju Animal Shelter, was found to be 17.4 for abandoned dogs and 1.7 for abandoned cats. Seasonal variations were observed for MDA, RHC, MDA adoptions, ADC, and RSDC, indicating that various strategies are needed for shelter management. This study was performed to analyze and interpret meaningful statistics for improving the efficiency of animal shelters in Jeju. However, inconsistent collection of animal statistics limited data compilation. Creation of a basic animal statistics matrix with reference to well-designed matrices from recognized professional animal shelters is essential.

  • Over 20,000 defense shelters are currently designated and operated in Korea. However, only few sheltershave the capacity to defend against CBR attack or terror from North Korea. Furthermore, as public defense shelters are only equipped with air-raid shelters, it is urgent to establish standard for CBR attack. This study focuses on shelter-in-place(SIP), a kind of CBR shelter in the U.S., and aims to draw up construction plan and planning of Korean defenses helter.

  • The cities keep growing due to industrialization and the risk of disaster gets higher as the society gets sophisticated. The center of current disaster plan has spent more efforts on post processing of disaster and it is the current status that the plan for shelter that minimizes the life and property damage has not been established effectively. Especially, the whole area of Noksan Industrial Complex at Noksan-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan Metropolitan City was designated as danger area of tsunami, but the shelter has not been selected. Thus, this paper is willing to select the shelter using AHP analysis and GIS method that is multi criteria decision making analysis after grasping the buildings that can be selected as the shelter.

  • The effect of different intermediated rearing method by expanding the attached floor space in order to highly density culture on the growth characteristics and survival rate of the juvenile abalone, Haliotis discus hannai, were investigated in land-based tanks. The intermediated culture methods was determined thru the shelter counts and layer for 10 month with two replicates : the single layer shelter (SLS), the double layer shelter (DLS), the triple layer shelter (TLS) and the single layer shelter under net cage (SLSNC). In addition, the culture on shallow race way tank had to set up as culture of the ditch raceway tank (CDRT) and the floor race way tank (CFRT). In the growth performance of reared abalone (initial mean shell length $54.18{\pm}7.39mm$ and weight $1.93{\pm}0.14g$) at experimental tanks, that the absolute growth rate (ARG), daily growth rate (DGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) to the shell length and shell breadth was not significant at each experimental tanks except SLSNC. As well as too, weight gain (WG), daily weight gain (DWG) and specific weight gain (SWG) to weight was not significant at each experimental tanks except SLSNC, too. Survival rates of CDRT and CFRT was lower than those of different experimental tanks (P < 0.05). Therefore, these results is showed that high density different intermediated rearing method by expanding the attached floor space for juvenile H. discus hannai was not have difference as growth performance and survival rate both one layer shelter and multi layer shelter. Also, it is considered that shallow race way tank was not useful rearing for the juvenile intermediate culture of H. discus hannai in land based.

  • The purpose of this study is analyze the pattern and factors affecting the shelter exit and the patterns of homeless women in Korea. For this study, survey data were collected from 139 sheltered homeless women in Seoul in May of 2007. And respondent's exit time and exit pattern from the shelter were investigated through administration data of shelter in December of 2008. Life table analysis, Cox-proportional hazard analysis and competing risk survival analysis were employed in order to analyze data. The major findings were as follows. First, life table analysis shows that the exit ratio of homeless women started to fall sharply in 24 months from entry into shelter. Second, subjective health status, ratio of the homeless in social network and shelter entry with children affected the likelihood of shelter exit of homeless women. Third, age, subjective health status, depression and shelter entry with children affected the likelihood of positive exit. And ratio of the homeless in social network affected the likelihood of negative exit. Based on these findings, this study implied the introduction of case management service concerning individual shelter exit plan and policy for residential stability of homeless women.

  • Most of the stone cultural properties is exposed to the weathering factor(rain, windetc.), so the shelter is constructed for reduction of its direct effect. But the shelter is indicated some problems that inharmoniousness of the surroundings, in section disturbance for insufficiency of light, the loss about the value of cultural properties and so on. So we have investigated on environmental condition (temperature, relative humidity, wind etc.) at the Standing Stone Buddhist Triad in Bae-ri, Gyeongju and Rock-carved Triad Buddha in Seosan because check the effect of the shelter. As the result, the Standing Stone Buddhist Triad in Bae-ri, Gyeongju is located a pine wood and a lot of bamboo grow naturally in nearing. Environmental difference on inside and outside of the shelter is not found because opened on all sides. But there is so dim for the direction of the sunlight that can't see the Standing Stone Buddhist. The base rock of Rock-carved Triad Buddha in Seosan well develop with crack and break, and the vegetation(trees, moss, lichen etc.) grow naturally in surroundings. Environmental difference on inside and outside of the shelter is found because closed on all sides and opened the front gate only inspection time. Inside of the shelter was too calm(air-velocity not detected) and humid(over 75%RH). Also the surface is occurred the dew(at 2-4 pm) and the efflorescence for effect of the water(rain, dew etc.). Besides the head of the central Buddhist is so dangerous for crack.

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of rain shelter cultivation on the its quality of safflower. The development and growth of safflower, especially the number of secondary branches per plant was increased by rain shelter. Under the rain shelter started earlier, the seed yield was increased by 95% compared with that of non-shelter condition. The number of plants in a unit area the number of flower buds and seeds per plant and seed weight were increased in rain shelter condition. As those plants were cultivated under the rain shelter, lightness(L) of their seeds was increased but redness (a) and yellowness (b) were decreased.

  • Seoul, a mega city, contains many features of the modern city. When the disaster or emergency occurs in Seoul, the place for shelter is required for evacuation urgently. There are currently the numbers of shelters in Seoul City, which can hold the twice more capacity of population of Seoul. However, the population distribution fluctuation in the day and the night needs to be considered. Therefore, in order to analyze the actual capacity of shelter, it is necessary to consider the dynamic characteristics of population distribution in the metropolitan area. In the study, the substantial accessibility and the capacity of shelters in Seoul were analyzed by the floating population data of the metropolitan area. The accessibility of shelter was investigated through a network analysis that includes the pedestrian road data, while the capacity of shelter was analyzed by the local differences of daytime population distributions. Finally it was possible to identify the vulnerable areas on the basis of the distribution of shelter in the region.

  • Corona 19 quarantine is often not implemented at degraded bus stops. We conducted this study to improve these problems. The inside and outside of the shelter can be sterilized with UV photocatalyst coating to maintain a hygienic and clean shelter, and passengers can breathe smoothly by reducing carbon dioxide in the shelter using CO2 sensors and fans. It is also expected that the body temperature can be measured using a body temperature sensor to prevent more than 20% of the spread of the coronavirus in the shelter by isolating suspected coronavirus patients in the first place. When the temperature measurement distance was less than 10cm, the accuracy of the temperature measurement was 98.9%. You can communicate your intention to ride safely and clearly without contacting the bus driver by using a ride bell that uses wireless communication inside the shelter.

  • Purpose: This study aims to explore the ways to improve the security of temporary shelters in case of nuclear power plant accidents. Method: In this study, we mainly rely on the case studies on previous nuclear power plant accidents-Chernobyl, Fukushima, and Three Mile Island (TMI) cases. Result: The current radiation emergency response plans for nuclear power plant accidents center around the evacuation procedure. As a result, the concept of "shelter in place" has been understood as a means of assisting resident evacuation. However, based on the case studies, we find that encouraging shelter in place, rather than simply emphasizing evacuation, would help minimize unnecessary casualties, especially in case of the accidents rated greater than or equal to INES 5. To facilitate better shelter in place, we recommend utilize apartments as temporary shelters and suggest some possible improvements to ensure those apartments could be equipped with technologies for high radiation protection. Conclusion: To ensure better shelter in place, we recommend using apartments as temporary shelters, and we seek to supplement the function of apartments by using shielding, positive pressure, and sealing technologies.
