냉간 압출된 유성기어의 내부결함 방지 (Prevention of Internal Defects of Cold Extruded Planetary Gears)

  • It is investigated that internal defect of planetary gear which consists of two gears with different number of teeth on both side. The internal defect, central burst, begin to form at the place of adiabatic shear band which usually has maximum ductile fracture value during the forming operation, forward and backward extrusion. It makes the plastic forming of planetary gear difficult. The prediction of defect to minimize the cost to produce the planetary gear. The finite element simulation code DEFORM is applied to analyze the defects. In the analysis, the toothed gears are assumed as axisymmetric cylinders whose diameters are equal to those of pitch circles of the each gears. Experiments were carried out with the SCM415 alloy steel as billet material and AIDA 630-ton knuckle-joint press. The calculated results and experimental inspections are compared to design a die and blank without defects and the results are useful to predict the internal defect.

  • The plane strain test has been used widely in order to examine the stress-strain relation and failure behavior. Its advantages are more realistic simulation of deformation and failure behaviors of soils. Most plane strain tests have been carried out with restrained end plates due to difficulties in manufacturing the equipment with free end condition and also performing it. In this study, plane strain tests with/without bottom plate restraint were performed on Jumunjin-sand. The measurement of overall and local deformation was accomplished by digital image correlation technique as well as external LVDT. By applying digital image correlation method using two consecutive images captured through the transparent wall, local deformation behavior of various parts inside the specimen was estimated. From digital image analysis result, the restrained effect of end plate was examined about formation and development of shear band, and deformation mechanism of sand under plane strain condition.

  • Iron based amorphous ribbons with the nominal compositions of $(Fe_{79}C_{11}B_8Si_2)_{100-X}Cr_X$ (X = 0,2,4,6,8 at%) have been developed as reinforcements that can be applied to the concrete materials. Mechanical properties and glass forming ability of the ribbons can be enhanced by the optimum amounts of Cr additions that can also improve corrosion properties of the ribbons. Vein patterns typical of the fractured surface morphology of amorphous alloys have been observed on the surfaces of ribbons after tensile tests. It is inferred from the EDS analysis results of vein patterns that carbon segregations occur within the narrow shear band regions.

DEM analyses of the mechanical behavior of soil and soil-rock mixture via the 3D direct shear test

  • The mechanical behavior of soil and soil-rock mixture is investigated via the discrete element method. A non-overlapping combination method of spheres is used to model convex polyhedron rock blocks of soil-rock mixture in the DEM simulations. The meso-mechanical parameters of soil and soil-rock interface in DEM simulations are obtained from the in-situ tests. Based on the Voronoi cell, a method representing volumtric strain of the sample at the particle scale is proposed. The numerical results indicate that the particle rotation, occlusion, dilatation and self-organizing force chains are a remarkable phenomena of the localization band for the soil and soil-rock mixture samples. The localization band in a soil-rock mixture is wider than that in the soil sample. The current research shows that the 3D discrete element method can effectively simulate the mechanical behavior of soil and soil-rock mixture.

An improved collapse analysis mechanism for the face stability of shield tunnel in layered soils

  • Based on the results of Han et al. (2016), in the failure zone ahead of the tunnel face it can be obviously identified that a shear failure band occurs in the lower part and a pressure arch happens at the upper part, which was often neglected in analyzing the face stability of shield tunnel. In order to better describe the collapse failure feature of the tunnel face, a new improved failure mechanism is proposed to evaluate the face stability of shield tunnel excavated in layered soils in the framework of limit analysis by using spatial discretization technique and linear interpolation method in this study. The developed failure mechanism is composed of two parts: i) the rotational failure mechanism denoting the shear failure band and ii) a uniformly distributed force denoting the pressure arch effect. Followed by the comparison between the results of critical face pressures provided by the developed model and those by the existing works, which indicates that the new developed failure mechanism provides comparatively reasonable results.

PFC를 이용한 입자 형상에 따른 입자 파쇄 및 전단거동 전개 (Evolution of Particle Crushing and Shear Behavior with Respect to Particle Shape Using PFC)

  • 조립재료의 입자 형상이 입자 파쇄 전개 및 전단 거동 특성에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위하여, 개별요소법(DEM, discrete element method)을 이용하여 직접전단시험을 수치해석적으로 모델링하였다. PFC(Particle Flow Code)내의 clump 모델 및 cluster 모델을 이용하여 6가지 형상의 입자를 생성하여 이를 원형입자의 직접 전단거동과 비교 분석함으로써 입자형상의 영향을 연구하였다. 연구결과, PFC에 의해 모델링된 직접 전단모델의 수치해석 결과는 실내 실험결과와 잘 일치하였으며, 따라서 본 연구 결과의 타당성을 입증하였다. 입자 형상 관점에서 모나고 거친 입자의 내부마찰각이 상대적으로 둥글고 매끄러운 입자에 비해 큰 값을 나타냈으며, 입자 파쇄 또한 많이 발생하는 것을 확인하였다. 이때 입자파쇄는 전단면근처에 집중되며 전단대를 형성하였다. 따라서 본 연구에서 제시한 수치해석 모델은 향후입자 파쇄를 포함한 조립재료의 전단강도 특성 연구에 다양하게 적용될 수 있다고 판단된다.

Effects of loading conditions on the fatigue failure characteristics in a polycarbonate

  • In this study, fatigue properties and crack growth characteristics of a polycarbonate (PC) were examined during cyclic loading at various mean stress (${\sigma}_{amp}$) and stress amplitude (${\sigma}_{mean}$) conditions. Different S vs. N and da/dN vs. ${\Delta}K$ relations were obtained depending on the loading condition. The higher fatigue strength and the higher resistance of crack growth are seen for the PC samples cyclically loaded at the higher mean stress and lower stress amplitude due to the low crack driving force. Non-linear S - N relationship was detected in the examination of the fatigue properties with changing the mean stress. This is attributed to the different crack growth rate (longer fatigue life): the sample loaded at the high mean stress with lower stress amplitude. Even if the higher stress amplitude, the low fatigue properties are obtained for the sample loaded at the higher mean stress. This was due to the accumulated strain energy to the sample, where severe plastic deformation occurs instead of crack growth (plasticity-induced crack closure). Shear bands and discontinuous crack growth band (DGB) are observed clearly on the fracture surfaces of the sample cyclically loaded at the high stress amplitude, where the lower the ${\sigma}_{mean}$, the narrower the shear band and DGB. On the other hand, final fracture occurred instantly immediately after the short crack growth occurs in the PC sample loaded at the high mean with the low ${\sigma}_{amp}$, i.e., tear fracture, in which the shear bands and DGB are not seen clearly.

크기효과를 고려한 복부보강이 없는 고강도 콘크리트 보의 전단강도 예측식의 제안 (Prediction of Shear Strength in High-Strength Concrete Beams without Web Reinforcement Considering Size Effect)

  • 최근의 연구를 통해서, ACI 전단 규준은 크기가 크고 인장철근비가 낮은 보에서 비보수적 예측을 보이는 반면 깊은 보에 대해서는 보수적 예측을 보임을 알 수 있다. 이러한 ACI 전단 규준이 가지고 있는 문제점을 수정하기 위해, 본 연구에서는 스터럽이 없는 고강도 철근 콘크리트 보의 전단강도 계산시 크기효과와 아치작용을 고려한 극한 전단강도 예측식을 제안하였다. ACI 전단 규준의 수정을 위해 포함될 항은 과학적 이론 및 분석에 근거한 $f_{sr}$ (dr), $f_{si}$ (${\rho}$)와 $f_{aa}$ (a/d)항이며, 선형 및 비선형 회귀분석을 통해 도출되었다. 기존의 실험 데이터 약 300여 개를 이용하여 각각의 변수에 대한 제안식의 검증 및 제안식과 ACI 318-99 code, CEB-FIP model code, Kim &Park 식 및 Zsutty 식과의 비교를 수행하였다. 제안식은 간단한 형태를 지니고 있지만, 경제적이면서도 합리적인 안전율을 확보할 수 있는 전단강도를 예측한다. 따라서 제안식은 실무에서 콘크리트 구조물의 전단설계에 적용 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

고Mn강의 소성에 따른 미세조직및 Texture 변화에 관한연구 (The development of deformation microstructures and textures in high Mn steels)

  • 탄소함량이 다른 두 Hadfield's강의 (고Mn강) 소성에 관한 연구를, 냉간압연시 나타나는 금속미세조직, texture등으로 조사하였다. Low carbon Hadfield's steel (LCHS, 0.65 wt. % C)에서는 적층결함, 쌍정및 brass type shear bands가 냉간압연시 나타나고, 이때 쌍정은 Intrinsic적층결함이 차곡차곡 쌓여서 나타나는것으로 생각된다. Texture 는 70-30 황동과 초기에는 비슷하나, 40% 이상의 변형에서는 마르텐사이트 상변화에 의해서 이상 texture가 나타난다. 한편 high carbon Hadfield's steel (HCHS, 1.35 wt. % C)에서는 전위엉킴, 쌍정및 copper and brass type shear bands가 소성 변형시 나타난다. Texture 는 70-30 황동과 비슷하고 이상 texture는 나타나지않고있다. 이러한 사실은 HCHS에서 마르텐사이트 상변화가 나타나지 않는것과 또 탄소원자가 편석되지 않는것과 잘일치하고 있다. LCHS와 HCHS사이의 미세조직과 texture의 변화에 많은 차이점을 보일지라도, 적층결함에너지의 차이는 매우작고 약 ($2 mJm^-2$), 탄소편석이 오직 LCHS에서만 일어나고 있다. 따라서 탄소와 같은 작은 원자의 편석이 미세조직 뿐만아니라, texture에 영향을 미치는 것을 생각 할 수 있다. 이러한 탄소의 편석은 LCHS에서 마르텐사이트 상변화와도 관계가 깊다.

원유로 오염된 지반의 역학적 특성 (Geotechnical Characteristics of Crude Oil-Contaminated Sandy Ground)

  • 본 연구는 토질 역학적인 측면에서 원유로 오염된 사질토의 압축강도 특성, 전단강도, 투수계수, 지지력 특성을 통하여 원유로 오염된 모래의 물리적 거동을 파악하였다. 실험 결과에 의하면 원유로 오염된 모래 지반의 내부마찰각이 오염되지 않은 지반의 내부마찰각보다 간극속에 있는 원유로 인하여 감소하고 있으며,오염도에 따라서 강도정수들 또한 현저한 영향을 보이고 있다. 모래지반의 지지력은 원유오염 도에 따라 크게 영향을 받는다.
