The Jurassic Daebo Ogcheon granite is distributed in the Ogcheon area which is located in the central part of the Ogcheon Belt, Korea. This paper newly examines the timing of Honam shearing on the basis of the petrofabric researches on the deformation structures of the Ogcheon granite. The structural shape of Ogcheon granite is mainly characterized by a wedge shaped of E-W trend and an elongate shape of ENE trend in geological map and by contacts parallel to the regional S1 foliation in the host Ogcheon supergroup. It indicates that the pluton was permittedly emplaced after the S1 formation. The main deformation structures are marked by a solid-state tectonic foliation of N-S trend, which passes through the contact of the pluton, and by an aplitic dyke of E-W trend, and by sinistral, NW and E-W oriented shear zones on the eastern border of the pluton. The petrofabric study on the main deformation structures suggests that the tectonic foliation and the aplitic dyke were formed by the Honam dextral strike-slip shearing of (N)NE trend at ca. $500{\sim}450^{\circ}C$ deformation temperature, and that the sinistral shear zones could be induced by the dextral rotation of the pluton from its original site of intrusion, that is, by the shear strain which is due to sliding of the pluton past the host rocks. The history of emplacement and deformation of the Ogcheon granite and the previous results on the timing of Honam shearing would be newly established and reviewed as follows. (1) Early~Middle Jurassic(187~170 Ma); intrusion of syntectonic foliated granite related to Early Honam shearing, (2) Middle Jurassic(175~166 Ma); main magmatic period of Jurassic granitoids, the permitted emplacement of the Ogcheon granite, (3) Middle~Late Jurassic(168~152 Ma); main cooling period of Jurassic granitoids, the deformation of the Ogcheon granite related to Late Honam shearing. Thus, this study proposes that the Honam shear movement would occur two times at least during 187~152 Ma (ca. 35 Ma) through the intertectonic phase of 175~166 Ma.

The hardening and the constitutive equation based on the crystal plasticity are introduced for the numerical simulation of hemispherical sheet metal forming. For calculating the deformation and the stress of the crystal, Taylor's model of the crystalline aggregate is employed. The hardening is evaluated by using the Taylor factor, the critical resolved shear stress of the slip system, and the sum of the crystallographic shears. During the hemispherical forming process, the texture of the sheet metal is evolved by the plastic deformation of the crystal. By observing the texture evolution of the BCC sheet, the texture evolution of the sheet is traced during the forming process. Deformation texture of the BCC sheet is represented by using the pole figure. The comparison of the strain distribution and punch force in the hemispherical forming process between crystal plasticity and experiment shows the verification of the crystal-based formulation and the accuracy of the hardening and constitutive equation obtained from the crystal plasticity.
The analysis of interfacial stresses in structural component has been the subject of several investigations but it still requires more effort and studies. In this study a general three-dimensional interface element has been formulated for stress and displacement analyses in the interfacial area between two adjacent plate bending element and brick element. Interface element has 16 nodes with 5 degrees of freedom (DOF) in each node adjacent to plate bending element and 3 DOF in each node adjacent to brick element. The interface element has ability to transfer three translations from each side of interface element and two rotations in the side adjacent to the plate element. Stiffness matrix of this element was formulated and implemented in three-dimensional finite element code. Application of this element to the reinforced concrete (RC) beam strengthened with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) including variation of deflection, slip between plate and concrete, normal and shear stresses distributions in FRP plates have been verified using experimental and numerical work of strengthened RC beams carried out by some researchers. The results show that this interface element is effective and can be used for structural component with these types of interface elements.
The paper presents a review of the application of the newly proposed mixed finite element model for seismic simulation of different types of composite frame structures. To evaluate the performance of the element, a comparison with displacement-based and force-based models is conducted. The study revealed that the mixed model is superior to the others in terms of both speed of convergence and numerical stability, and is therefore considered the most practical approach for modeling of composite structures. In this model, the element is derived using independent force and displacement shape functions. The nonlinear response of the frame element is based on the section discretization into fibers with uniaxial material models. The interfacial behavior is modeled using an inelastic interface element. Numerical examples to clarify the advantages of the model are presented for the following structural applications: anchored reinforcing bar problems, composite steel-concrete girders with deformable shear connectors, beam on elastic foundation elements, R/C girders strengthened with FRP sheets, R/C beam-columns with bond-slip, and prestressed concrete girders. These studies confirmed that the model represents a major advancement over existing elements in simulating the inelastic behavior of composite structures.

Wear on the tube-to-spring contact is investigated experimentally. The wear is caused by the vibration of the tube while the springs support it. As for the supporting conditions, applied are the contacting normal force (P) of 5 N, just-contact (P = 0 N) and the gap of 0.1 mm. The gap condition is tried far considering the influence of simultaneous impacting and sliding on wear. Results show that the wear volume increases in the order of the gap, the just-contact and the 5 N conditions. This is explained from the contact geometry of the spring, which is convex of smooth contour. The contact shear force is regarded smaller in the case of the gap existence compared with the other conditions. Wear mechanism is considered from SEM observation of the worn surface. The variation of the normal contact traction is analysed using the finite element analysis to estimate the slip displacement range on the contact with consulting the fretting map previously obtained.
This paper is within the framework of an adhered complete contact problem wherein the contact between a half plane and sharp edged indenter, both of which are elastic in character, is constituted. The eigensolutions of the contact shear and normal stresses, σrq and σq, respectively, are evaluated via asymptotic analysis. The ratio of σrq/σqq is investigated and compared with the coefficient of friction, μ, of the contact surface to observe the propensity to slip on the contact surface. Interestingly, there exists a region of |σrθ/σθθ| ≥ |μ|. Thus, slipping can occur, although the problem is solved under the condition of an adhered contact without slipping. Given that a tribological failure potentially occurs at the slipping region, it is important to determine the size of the slipping region. This aspect is also factored in the paper. A simple example of the adhered contact between two elastically dissimilar squares is considered. Finite element analysis is used to evaluate generalized stress intensity factors. Furthermore, it is repeatedly observed that slipping occurs on the contact surface although the size of it is extremely small compared with that of the contacting squares. Therefore, as a contribution to the field of contact mechanics, this problem must be further explained logically.
Recycled tire rubber-filled concrete (RRFC) is employed into the steel-concrete composite structures due to its good ductility and crack resistance. Push-out tests were conducted to investigate the static behavior of steel and rubber-filled concrete composite beam with different rubber mixed concrete and studs. The results of the experimental investigations show that large studs lead a higher ultimate strength but worse ductility in normal concrete. Rubber particles in RRFC were shown to have little effect on shear strength when the compressive strength was equal to that of normal concrete, but can have a better ductility for studs in rubber-filled concrete. This improvement is more obvious for the composite beam with large stud to make good use of the high strength. Besides that the uplift of concrete slabs can be increased and the quantity and width of cracks can be reduced by RRFC efficiently. Based on the test result, a modified empirical equation of ultimate slip was proposed to take not only the compressive strength, but also the ductility of the concrete into consideration.
This paper experimentally investigated the behavior of steel frame structures of traditional-style buildings subjected to combined constant axial load and reversed lateral cyclic loading conditions. The low cyclic reversed loading test was carried out on a 1/2 model of a traditional-style steel frame. The failure process and failure mode of the structure were observed. The mechanical behaviors of the steel frame, including hysteretic behaviors, order of plastic hinges, load-displacement curve, characteristic loads and corresponding displacements, ductility, energy dissipation capacity, and stiffness degradation were analyzed. Test results showed that the Dou-Gong component (a special construct in traditional-style buildings) in steel frame structures acted as the first seismic line under the action of horizontal loads, the plastic hinges at the beam end developed sufficiently and satisfied the Chinese Seismic Design Principle of "strong columns-weak beams, strong joints-weak members". The pinching phenomenon of hysteretic loops occurred and it changed into Z-shape, indicating shear-slip property. The stiffness degradation of the structure was significant at the early stage of the loading. When failure, the ultimate elastic-plastic interlayer displacement angle was 1/20, which indicated high collapse resistance capacity of the steel frame. Furthermore, the finite element analysis was conducted to simulate the behavior of traditional-style frame structure. Test results agreed well with the results of the finite element analysis.
An experimental investigation is carried out on the failure mechanism of foam concrete with cold formed steel double C-Channels embedment. The foam concrete is made of cement and fly ash with a compressive strength between 9 and 24 MPa with different densities. Forty-eight tests have been carried out in four groups of specimens with various embedment depths of the steel in the concrete. Four modes of failure are observed, which include the independent failure of the C-Channels with and without a concrete block inside the channel as well as the combined failure of the two channels, and the failure of the extrusion block. A theoretical model has been developed to understand the failure process. The peak compressive force applied onto the C-Channels that causes failure is calculated. It is concluded that the failure involves independent slippage between two C-Channels, and the steel and the foam concrete blocks inside the C-Channels. A method to calculate the peak force is also developed based on the test results. The calculations also show that the shear strength of the foam concrete is about 8% of the compressive strength with ${\alpha}$ coefficient of 0.4 between the steel and concrete.
Since low-rise residential buildings are the most common and vulnerable structures in coastal areas, a reliable prediction of their performance under hurricanes is necessary. The present study focuses on developing a refined finite element model that is able to more rigorously represent the load distributions or redistributions when the building behaves as a unit or any portion is overloaded. A typical 5:12 sloped low-rise residential building is chosen as the prototype and analyzed under wind pressures measured in the wind tunnel. The structural connections, including the frame-to-frame connections and sheathing-to-frame connections, are modeled extensively to represent the critical structural details that secure the load paths for the entire building system as well as the boundary conditions provided to the building envelope. The nail withdrawal, the excessive displacement of sheathing, the nail head pull-through, the sheathing in-plane shear, and the nail load-slip are found to be responsible for the building envelope damage. The uses of the nail type with a high withdrawal capacity, a thicker sheathing panel, and an optimized nail edge distance are observed to efficiently enhance the building envelope performance based on the present numerical damage predictions.
