  • In this study, a closed-form analysis has been developed for the transverse shear behavior of thin-walled composite beams with closed cross-sections. The shear flow distributions and cross-section stiffness coefficients are derived analytically by using a mixed beam approach. The theory has been applied to single-celled composite box-beams with elastic couplings. The location of the shear center and the effect of transverse shear deformation on the static behavior of composite beams are investigated in the framework of the analysis. The present results are validated against those of a two-dimensional finite element analysis and a good correlation has been obtained for box-beam cases considered in this study.

  • The sandwich shell with Egg-box core has been used for the combustion chamber case of air breathing propulsion system. The alteration on pitch length and thickness of Egg-box core was required to be lighter and save manufacturing time and cost of combustion chamber case. In this paper, the finite element analysis method which simulated bending test was used to predict the equivalent shear modulus which affect structural stability of sandwich shell in short time. The result of FE calculation on sandwich panel with homogeneous material, H130-foam core, showed a good agreement with the values available in the reference. The equivalent shear modulus of Egg-box core according to the variation of pitch length and thickness can be obtained.

  • This study aimed at investigating quasi-static and dynamic torsional deformation behavior of three API X70 and X80 linepipe steels. Quasi-static and dynamic torsional tests were conducted on these steels. having different grain sizes and volume fractions of acicular ferrite and polygonal ferrite, using a torsional Kolsky bar. The test data were then compared via microstructures and adiabatic shear band formation,. The dynamic torsional test results indicated that the steels rolled in the single phase region had higher maximum shear stress than the steel rolled in the two phase region, because the microstructures of the steel rolled in the single phase region were composed mainly of acicular ferrites. In the X80 steel rolled in the single phase region, the increased dynamic torsional properties could be explained by a decrease in the overall effective grain size due to the presence of acicular ferrite having smaller effective grain size. The possibility of adiabatic shear band formation was analyzed from the energy required for void initiation and variation in effective grain size.

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to examine the effects of pork liver levels on the quality characteristics of hamburger patties. Methods: The effects of the addition of livers concentrations from 0% to 20% were investigated based on chemical composition, cooking characteristics, physicochemical properties, shear force, and sensory characteristics of hamburger patties. Results: The increasing pork liver levels from 0% to 20% resulted in increased moisture content, ash content, redness, reduction in diameter, and reduction in thickness of hamburger patties, but decreased the fat content, lightness, cooking yield, shear force and water holding capacity of hamburger patties. The protein content of hamburger patties with different amounts of pork liver showed no significant differences. The hamburger patties with increasing pork liver levels had lower color, flavor, juiciness, and overall acceptability scores, but the overall acceptability of control showed similar trends to T1 (treatments with 5% pork liver). Conclusion: Pork liver in the formulation showed similar quality characteristics as compared to control hamburger patties without liver, with best results obtained on adding up to 5% pork liver.

  • In this study, a polyol was prepared using Jeffamine D-400 as a propylene glycol-based diamine to impart flexibility to the urethane-modified epoxy, and a urethane-modified epoxy was synthesized using the polyol. Urethane-modified epoxy synthesized with existing Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE) epoxy, a curing agent, and a curing accelerator are mixed to prepare an epoxy adhesive, and shear strength is measured by measuring adhesion strength. As a result, shear strength and shear elongation tended to increase. These results are due to the high crosslinking density. It is believed that it can be applied to structural adhesives that are restricted in use.

  • This study is concerned with the relation between steelbelt and belt edge separation. Belt edge separation causes tire burst and threatens passenger's safety. For that reason, it is important to predict durability caused by belt edge separation first in tire structure design step. In this study, to predict belt edge separation, we suggest the prediction method of belt edge separation and evaluate the effect of steelbelt width on the belt edge separation using FEM. We study on analysis parameter also to do exact estimation about the shear behaviour of belt edge area.

  • This paper presents a summary of the immersion ultrasonic test to analyze the quality of diffusion bonding parts. The most important property of diffusion bonding parts is bonding strength, and that can be obtained by shear test. By comparing among data obtained by ultrasonic test(C-Scan) and those by shear test (bonding strength), these data are shown to be in good relation. Therefore ultrasonic C-Scan test result can be used successfully in quantitative quality control for diffusion bonded parts.

  • Ductile shear zones developed in Jurassic granites in the Yonggwang area show NE trend at the eastern part and nearly EW trend at the western part, respectively. Judged from shear sense indicators, they have resulted from dextral strike-slip movement. The intersection of both trends is thought to be due to the truncation and offset of NE shear zone Chonju Shear zone by the brittle Yonggwang fault which runs in near EW direction with sinistral movement sense. The simple shear deformation was predominate through the deformation in this ductile shear zone. Based on this deformation mechanism, the shear strain (${\gamma}$) estimated in domain 1 increases from 0.14 at the shear zone margin to 9.41 toward the center of shear zone. Total displacement obtained only from this measured section(JK 59 to JK14) appecars to be 1434.5 meters. The sequential development of microstructures can be divided into three stages; weakly-foliated, well-foliated and banded-foliated stages. In the weakly-foliated stage dislocation glide mechanism might be predominant. In the well-foliated stage grain boundary migration and progressive misorientation of subgrains was remarkable during dynamic recovery and recrystallization. In the banded-foliated stage grain boundary sliding and microfracturing mechanisms accompanied with crushing and cracking were marked. According to strain analysis from quartzites of the metasedimentary rocks, strain intensity (${\gamma}$) of the samples within the ductile shear zone ranges from 2.7 to 5.7, while that of the samples out of the ductile shear zone appears to be about 1.7.

  • We compare FT (Fourier Transform) and SD (Stress Decomposition), the interpretation methods for LAOS (Large Amplitude Oscillatory Shear). Although the two methods are equivalent in mathematics. they are significantly different in numerical procedures. Precision of FT greatly depends on sampling rate and length of data because FT of experimental data is the discrete version of Fourier integral theorem. FT inevitably involves unnecessary frequencies which must not appear in LAOS. On the other hand, SD is free from the problems from which FT suffers, because SD involves only odd harmonics of primary frequency. SD is based on two axioms on shear stress: [1] shear stress is a sufficiently smooth function of strain and its time derivatives; [2] shear stress satisfies macroscopic time-reversal symmetry. In this paper, we compared numerical aspects of the two interpretation methods for LAOS.
