  • This study proposes an advanced type of a micropile system. The proposed micropile system consists of perfobond ribs installed steel rod to improve shear capacity between the thread and the grout, and partially expanded drill holes to increase resistance capacity between the grout and the ground. This study contains experimental evaluations on the proposed micropile system to verify the shear capacity of perfobond rib installed on the steel rod and the load-carrying capacity of shear key created by the partially expanded drill hole. Push-out tests were conducted on a rolled screw thread and steel rods which perfobond ribs are installed instead of rolled screw, in order to compare their load-carrying capacity and behavioral characteristics. As a result, it was confirmed that the perfobond-rib steel rods show much superior structural behavior in terms of initial stiffness, ultimate load, and ductile behavior.

  • The stability and resistance of the plates under in-plane loading is crucial in the design of structures. For the assessment of structural stability, it is necessarily required to have accurate finite element technologies. Therefore, the enhanced 9-node plate (Q9-ANS) element is introduced for the linear buckling analysis of plate where the critical buckling load has to be determined. The Q9-ANS is developed with the Reissner-Mindlin (RM) assumptions which consider transverse shear deformation of the plate. Assumed shear strain is used to alleviate the shear locking phenomenon. Numerical examples are carried out to verify the performance of the Q9-ANS element in calculation of critical buckling load of the plates.

  • Recently the diameter of the 5MW wind turbine reaches 126m, and the tower height is nearly the same with the wind turbine diameter. The blade will experience periodic inflow oscillation due to blade rotation inside the ground shear flow region, that is, the inflow velocity is maximum at uppermost position and minimum at lowermost position. In this study we compare the aerodynamic data between two inflow conditions, i.e, uniform flow and normal wind profile. From the computed results all of the relative errors for oscillating amplitudes increased due to the ground shear flow effect. Especially My at hub and $F_x$, $M_y$, $M_z$ at LSS increased enormously. It turns out that the aerodynamic analysis including the ground shear flow effect must be considered for fatigue load analysis.

  • This paper was aimed to investigate the shear strengthening effect of the pre-loaded reinforced concrete beams strengthened by carbon fiber sheet (CFS) & steel plate. Main test parameters were the magnitude of pre-loading at the time of the retrofit, the strengthening methods of carbon fiber sheet and aid ratio. A series of seventeen specimens was tested to evaluate the corresponding effect of each parameters such as maximum load capacity, load-deflection relationship, load-strain relationship and failure mode. As a result, using the steel plate can increase the capacity of not only shear but also bending moment.

  • In this study, the characteristics of pullout behavior of Pressurized light-weight steel Anchor was investigated through centrifuge model tests considering pull-out angle $0^{\circ}$ with changing undrained shearstrength(0~1, 2~4, 5~7kPa) of clay. According to the results of tests, the yield pullout load of clay ground was gradually increased up to 30% as undrained shear strength was increased. Therefore, it was known that the yield pullout load was affected by increasing the undrained shear strength, in addition, the pattern of behavior was not changed.

  • A pin-type load-cell which uses shear-type strain gauges was developed to measure the tension of a wire in a winch. A finite element analysis was performed to determine the locations of the strain gauges. All of the shear-type strain gauges were attached onto parts that undergo regularly shear stress distributions. A Wheatstone bridge circuit was used to connect each of the gauges and to measure the strains. Linearity within the 5% error range was noted when testing the pin-type load-cell.

  • This paper presents the behavior and strengthening effect of reinforced concrete rectangular beams strengthened using CFRP sheets with different strengthening level. In general, normally strengthened beams are failed by interfacial shear failure (delamination) within concrete, instead of by tensile failure of the CFRP sheets. The delamination occurred suddenly and the concrete cover cracked vertically by flexure was spalled off due to the release energy. The strengthened beams were stiffer than the control beam before and after reinforcement yielding. The ultimate load considerably increased with an increase of strengthening level, while the ultimate deflection significantly decreased. The tensile force of CFRP sheets and average shear stress of concrete at delamination failure were curvilinearly proportional to the strengthening level. Therefore, the increment of ultimate load obtained by strengthening was curvilinearly proportional to the strengthening level. The averaged horizontal shear stress of concrete at the interface ranges between (equation omitted) and (equation omitted) (in kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$) depending on strengthening level.

  • This study investigates the influences of porosity on the stability of the orthotropic laminated plates under uniaxial and biaxial loadings based on the hyperbolic shear deformation theory. Three different porosity distribution are considered with three specific functions through the plate thickness. The stability equations of porous orthotropic laminated plates are derived by the virtual work principle. Applying the Galerkin method to partial differential equations, the critical buckling load relation of porous orthotropic laminated plates is obtained. After validating the accuracy of the proposed formulation in accordance with the available literature, a parametric analysis is performed to observe the sensitivity of the critical buckling load to shear deformation, porosity, orthotropy, loading factor, and different geometric properties.

  • Squat reinforced concrete walls require enough shear strength in order to promote flexural yielding, which creates the need for designers of an accurate method for strength prediction. In many cases, especially for existing buildings, strength estimates might be insufficient when more accurate analyses are needed, such as pushover analysis. In this case, estimates of load versus displacement are required for building modeling. A model is developed that predicts the shear load versus shear deformation of squat reinforced concrete walls by means of a panel formulation. In order to provide a simple, design-oriented tool, the formulation considers the wall as a single element, which presents an average strain and stress field for the entire wall. Simple material constitutive laws for concrete and steel are used. The developed models can be divided into two categories: (i) rotating-angle and (ii) fixed-angle models. In the first case, the principal stress/strain direction rotates for each drift increment. This situation is addressed by prescribing the average normal strain of the panel. The formation of a crack, which can be interpreted as a fixed principal strain direction is imposed on the second formulation via calibration of the principal stress/strain direction obtained from the rotating-angle model at a cracking stage. Two alternatives are selected for the cracking point: fcr and 0.5fcr (post-peak). In terms of shear capacity, the model results are compared with an experimental database indicating that the fixed-angle models yield good results. The overall response (load-displacement) is also reasonable well predicted for specimens with diagonal compression failure.
