This paper reports the result of an investigation into wave propagation in orthotropic laminated piezoelectric cylindrical shells in hydrothermal environment. A dynamic model of laminated piezoelectric cylindrical shell is derived based on Cooper-Naghdi shell theory considering the effects of transverse shear and rotary inertia. The wave characteristics curves are obtained by solving an eigenvalue problem. The effects of layer numbers, thickness of piezoelectric layers, thermal loads and humid loads on the wave characteristics curves are discussed through numerical results. The solving method presented in the paper is validated by the solution of a classical elastic shell non-containing the effects of transverse shear and rotary inertia. The new features of the wave propagation in laminated piezoelectric cylindrical shells with various laminated material, layer numbers and thickness in hydrothermal environment and some meaningful and interesting results in this paper are helpful for the application and the design of the ultrasonic inspection techniques and structural health monitoring.
Spot welding, namely a kind of electric resisting welding has been used widely in field of automobile and aircraft industries because of easiness to apply. Specimens used in this study was a mild steel of 1.2mm thickness and the electrode was a Cu-Cr alloy of 6mm diameter. The surface sheared of specimens after testing of tensile shear was observed by SEM(scanning electron microscope) after ultrasonic cleaning for 10min., and microstructures and grain size of all specimens were measured with using of O.M.(Optical microscope). By the means of measurement and observations of tensile shear load, fatigue strength and share surface, the weldability of spot welding was evaluated. When tensile shearing testing, fracture starting point in all specimens was took place at the bond between HAZ(Heat affected zone) and nugget. With increasing in number of layers, fatigue strength was decreased. With increasing in electric current, grain size in the HAZ became more fine.
The effect of lubrication on the development of textures and Microstructure was studied by different lubricating condition during hot rolling of AA1050 aluminum alloy. Hot rolling without lubrication led to the evolution of the pronounced through-thickness texture gradients, whereas hot rolling with lubrication gave rise to the formation of uniform rolling texture in the whole thickness layer. The variation of texture and microstructure according to hot rolling condition are investigated by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and Electron Back-Scattered Diffraction (EBSD). The experimental results were discussed base on the finite element method (FEM) simulation. FEM calculation reveals that a larger friction between roll and sheet causes the deviated strain state from a plane strain leading to the formation of shear textures in the thickness layers close to the surface.
Fully developed turbulent flow in a circular pipe and laminar boundary layer on a flat plate were measured to develop a measuring technique of the wall sheat stress using Preston tubes. New empirical formulas to extimate displacement factor of Preston tube obtained through the present study. The displacement factor for turbulent flow was considerably different from that for the laminar flow. Measured wall shear stress was not pretty dependent on the displacement factor for Preston tubes in the inertia sublayer of turbulent boundary layer, however was considerably affected in the laminar boundary layer. Measuring error of skin friction using the CPM technique was 3% for turbulent and 5% for thin laminar boundary layers.
In this research, buckling analysis of an embedded laminated composite plate is investigated. The elastic medium is simulated with spring constant of Winkler medium and shear layer. With considering higher order shear deformation theory (Reddy), the total potential energy of structure is calculated. Using Principle of Virtual Work, the constitutive equations are obtained. The analytical solution is performed in order to obtain the buckling loads. A detailed parametric study is conducted to elucidate the influences of the layer numbers, orientation angle of layers, geometrical parameters, elastic medium and type of load on the buckling load of the system. Results depict that the highest buckling load is related to the structure with angle-ply orientation type and with increasing the angle up to 45 degrees, the buckling load increases.
In the present study, the turbulent flow from an annular jet is investigated by using large eddy simulation. Particularly, the effect of the ratio of the inner and outer diameters is one of the main interests of this study. The instantaneous fields presented in this paper showed that behind the jet exit the backflow region, as well known in literatures, exists, and its detailed behavior depends on the ratio of the inner and outer diameters ($D_1/D_2$). The dependence on $D_1/D_2$ is attributed to the different shear layer development according to $D_1/D_2$. At small $D_1/D_2$, the development of the outer shear layer is similar to that from the circular jet. However, with increasing $D_1/D_2$, the interaction between the outer and inner shear layers becomes strong, resulting in fast transition to turbulence.

Low density polyethylene nanocomposites were prepared by melt intercalating maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene and montmorillonite clay. It has been found that maleic anhydride has promoted strong interactions between polyethylene and montmorillonite, leading to the homogeneous dispersion of clay layers. Rheological experiments revealed that prepared nanocomposites exhibited shear thinning behaviour. Polyethylene nanocomposites exhibited an increase in steady shear viscosities compared to virgin polyethylene owing to strong polymer clay interactions. The tensile strength of nanocomposites was improved but elongation at break decreased considerably. Also, barrier properties improved significantly with montmorillonite content.
Free vibration of symmetric angle-ply layered conical shell frusta of variable thickness is analyzed under shear deformation theory with different boundary conditions by applying collocation with spline approximation. Linear and exponential variation in thickness of layers are assumed in axial direction. Displacements and rotational functions are approximated by Bickley-type splines of order three and obtained a generalized eigenvalue problem. This problem is solved numerically for an eigenfrequency parameter and an associated eigenvector of spline coefficients. The vibration of three and five-layered conical shells, made up of two different type of materials are considered. Parametric studies are made for analysing the frequencies of the shell with respect to the coefficients of thickness variations, length-to-radius ratio, length-to-thickness ratio and ply angles with different combination of the materials. The results are compared with the available data and new results are presented in terms of tables and graphs.
We study thickness-shear (TSh) free vibrations of an unbounded, laminated elastic plate with three layers of different materials. One of the two interfaces is slightly weakened as described by the shear-lag model that allows the displacement to be discontinuous across the interface. A frequency equation is obtained from the linear theory of elasticity. A perturbation solution of the frequency equation is obtained from which the frequency shifts of TSh modes due to the weakened interface can be calculated. It is shown that the frequency shifts of TSh modes of different orders are different, and they satisfy different conditions when different interfaces are weakened. These conditions are obtained which can potentially be used as criteria for determining specifically which interface is weakened.
In this study, a method for free vibration analysis of wall-frame systems built on weak soil is proposed. In the development of the method, the wall-frame system that constitutes the superstructure was modeled as flexural-shear beam. In the study, it is accepted that the soil layers are isotropic, homogeneous and elastic, and the waves are only vertical propagating shear waves. Based on this assumption, the soil layer below is modeled as an equivalent shear beam. Then the differential equation system that represented the behavior of the whole system was written for both regions in a separate way. Natural periods were obtained by solving the differential equations by employing boundary conditions. At the end of the study, two examples were solved and the suitability of the proposed method to the Finite Element Method was evaluated.
