The main objective of the paper is to investigate the static behavior of a prestressed concrete (PSC) girder that has been spliced with precast box segments. A 20 m long full-scale spliced PSC girder is fabricated and tested to compare its static performance against a monolithic girder. The monolithic girder has the same geometric and material properties with respect to the spliced girder. This includes infernal strain, deflections, neutral axis position, and crack patterns for both girders. The test also consists of monitoring relative displacements occurring across the joints. Both the horizontal displacement (gap) and vertical displacement (sliding) are measured throughout the loading procedure. All results have been compared to those obtained from the monolithic girder. It has been demonstrated that the spliced girder offers close behavior with respect to the monolithic girder up to the crack load. Both girders exhibits ductile flexural failure rather than abrupt shear failure at joints.

In this paper, mechanical reliability issues of copper through-wafer interconnections are investigated numerically and experimentally. A hermetic wafer level packaging for MEMS devices is developed. Au-Sn eutectic bonding technology is used to achieve hermetic sealing, and the vertical through-hole via filled with electroplated copper for the electrical connection is also used. The MEMS package has the size of $1mm{\times}1mm{\times}700{\mu}m$. The robustness of the package is confirmed by several reliability tests. Several factors which could induce via hole cracking failure are investigated such as thermal expansion mismatch, via etch profile, and copper diffusion phenomenon. Alternative electroplating process is suggested for preventing Cu diffusion and increasing the adhesion performance of the electroplating process. After implementing several improvements, reliability tests were performed, and via hole cracking as well as significant changes in the shear strength were not observed. Helium leak testing indicated that the leak rate of the package meets the requirements of MIL-STD-883F specification.
Japanese larch glulam was used as structural members to develop a modern engineered wood jointing system using traditional post and beam structure. For the connections comprised of traditional joining and drift-pins, structural members are processed at a pre-cut factory. As a basic study to examine and increase the whole shear performance of portal frame, pin withdrawal test and moment resistance tests were conducted on each connection. The post and beam members with specified connectors showed good bearing performance in the wood members' joining system, column-base and beam-end. Moment rigidity was a bit better in a joint with higher slenderness ratio of drift-pin, but moment resistance performances, yield moment and maximum moment, were excellent in smaller one.

Reinforced concrete beams can be strengthened in a structural retrofit process by attaching steel plates to their sides by bolting. Whilst bolting produces a confident degree of shear connection under conditions of either static or seismic overload, the plates are susceptible to local buckling. The aim of this paper is to investigate the local buckling of unilaterally-restrained plates with point supports in a generic fashion, but with particular emphasis on the provision of the restraints by bolts, and on the geometric configuration of these bolts on the buckling loads. A numerical procedure, which is based on the Rayleigh-Ritz method in conjunction with the technique of Lagrange multipliers, is developed to study the unilateral local buckling of rectangular plates bolted to the concrete with various arrangements of the pattern of bolting. A sufficient number of separable polynomials are used to define the flexural buckling displacements, while the restraint condition is modelled as a tensionless foundation using a penalty function approach to this form of mathematical contact problem. The additional constraint provided by the bolts is also modelled using Lagrange multipliers, providing an efficacious method of numerical analysis. Local buckling coefficients are determined for a range of bolting configurations, and these are compared with those developed elsewhere with simplifying assumptions. The interaction of the actions in bolted plates during buckling is also considered.
The precast concrete beam-column connectors for the high-rise office buildings were investigated experimentally in this study. The specimens of general precast beam-column connector which is used in a domestic site, specimen of DDC(dywidag ductile connectors) of Germany, and specimen of DDC with post-tensioning and modified DDC with post-tensioning were constructed and tested to verify the safety. The DDC with and without post-tensioning showed reliable joint strength and ductility but failed in critical inclined shear crackings at the column. The modified one showed better behaviors in tests because they did not show critical column crackings at failure. The use of prestressing did not helpful significantly to increase the strength and ductility of connectors but helpful only to develop self-centering behavior for stability.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the degradation law of stiffness of steel-concrete composite beams after certain fatigue loads. First, six test beams with stud connectors were designed and fabricated for static and fatigue tests. The resultant failure modes under different fatigue loading cycles were compared. And an analysis was performed for the variations in the load-deflection curves, residual deflections and relative slips of the composite beams during fatigue loading. Then, the correlations among the stiffness degradation of each test beam, the residual deflection and relative slip growth during the fatigue test were investigated, in order to clarify the primary reasons for the stiffness degradation of the composite beams. Finally, based on the stiffness degradation function under fatigue loading, a calculation model for the residual stiffness of composite beams in response to fatigue loading cycles was established by parameter fitting. The results show that the stiffness of composite beams undergoes irreversible degradation under fatigue loading. And stiffness degradation is associated with the macrobehavior of material fatigue damage and shear connection degradation. In addition, the stiffness degradation of the composite beams exhibit S-shaped monotonic decreasing trends with fatigue cycles. The general agreement between the calculation model and experiment shows good applicability of the proposed model for specific beam size and fatigue load parameters. Moreover, the research results provide a method for establishing a stiffness degradation model for composite beams after fatigue loading.

This research is to develop the steel-concrete composite lining board using section shape steel. This lining board adopts section shape steel, rectangular pipe and H-beam, instead of roll-formed steel member commonly used in other composite lining board. Consequently, it reduces fabrication effort. Efficient section which can reduce the weight of steel of the lining board is made by placing the neutral axis of the section near the lower surface of concrete. Behavior of composite section is improved by adding bolts as shear connector. Static and fatigue tests were conducted to verify the performance of the composite lining board developed. The test results indicate that serviceability as well as safety of the lining board developed is secured with good margin and reduction of steel weight can be made about 27% compared with other composite lining boards.

If we use a third order approximation for the displacement function of beam element in finite element methods, finite element solutions of beams yield nodal displacement values matching to beam theory results to have no connection with the number increasing of elements of beams. It is assumed that, as the member displacement value at beam nodes are correct, the calculation procedure of beam element stiffness matrix have no numerical errors. A the member forces are calculated by the equations of $\frac{-M}{EI}=\frac{{d^2}{\omega}}{dx^2}\;and\;\frac{dM}{dx}=V$, the member forces at nodes of beams have errors in a moment and a shear magnitudes in the case of smaller number of element. The nodal displacement value of plate subject to the lateral load converge to the exact values according to the increase of the number of the element. So it is assumed that the procedures of plate element stiffness matrix calculations has a error in the fundamental assumptions. The beam methods for the high accuracy ratio solution Is also applied to the plate analysis. The method of reducing a error ratio of member forces and element stiffness matrix in the finite element methods is studied. Results of study were as follows. 1. The matrixes of EI[B] and [K] in the equations of M(x)=EI[B]{q} and M(x) = [K]{q}+{Q} of beams are same. 2. The equations of $\frac{-M}{EI}=\frac{{d^2}{\omega}}{dx^2}\;and\;\frac{dM}{dx}=V$ for the member forces have a error ratio in a finite element method of uniformly loaded structures, so equilibrium node loads {Q} must be substituted in the equation of member forces as the numerical examples of this paper revealed.
In event of a tunnel fire, all kinds of equipment can be destroyed in high temperature that can exceed $1300^{\circ}C$, fatal structural demage can be caused by spalling of concrete structural elements. To make matters worse, there is a high possibility of the secondary damage which can lead to the collapse of the shear resisting structure. Accordingly, it is time that we developed the technology to counter fires in connection with the fire-resistant design of a tunnel structure. To secure the reliability of the fire-resistance performance of a tunnel structure, it is necessary to assess the fire's behavior on every structural element exposed to the fire as well as to calculate the tunnel fire intensity and the quantity of heat released. In this study, we drew out the fire damage range of each structural element of a tunnel and the minimum thickness of concrete cover for each fire-resistant material through some actual experiments of fire behavior on the structural elements of a tunnel.

The analysis and results of flexural behavior for steel composite beam with built-up cross-section considering bolt deformation are presented in this paper. The bolt deformation and the restrict effect due to bolt-connection and friction are considered to investigate the flexural behavior of steel composite beam. Nonlinear spring element in ABAQUS is used to consider bolt deformation, also the results are compared with those in case bolt deformations are ignored. The displacement, bending stresses and shear stresses are calculated by F.E. model, and these results are compared with the analytical value of no interaction beam, partial interaction beam and full interaction beam. As a result of analysis, the behavior of composite beam is more dependant on the composite rate than the friction of the steel. When the composite rate is more than 50%, the behavior of composite beam considering the effects of bolt deformation is similar to that of fully composite beam.
