Spatiotemporal Behaviors of Excited Xenon Atoms in a Three-Dimensional Diagnosable Microplasma Unit Cell with High Sustain Frequency for Plasma Display Panels

  • With the high sustain frequency at 250 kHz, a three-dimensional diagnostics of excited xenon atoms was investigated by the emission and absorption microscopic spectroscopy for plasma display panels, spatiotemporally. As a typical feature of the emissions, a broad discharge peak was observed on the temporal cathode and a sharp one was monitored on the anode, at the high frequency. However, the discharge starts from the cathode edge, actually, that is a discharge space on the floated address (or data) electrode. Spatially, the dense emission and absorption peak were observed in the discharge space between the sustain electrodes gap. Overall, the microdischarge at high sustain frequency showed priming dominant characteristics.

  • Rapid Prototyping(RP) is an efficient method for rapid design verification and trial manufacturing. In order to improve their unique characteristics according to the working principles. Variable Lamination Manufacturing process and corresponding CAD/CAM system is developed. The objective of this study is to improve dimensional accuracy of VLM-ST process, and it can be done by offset for cutting error correction, cutting path correction for sharp edge and reference shape generation. To verify the proposed algorithms, they applied to three-dimensional shapes, such as spanner and mechanical part.

Application of the Scaling Law for Swept Shock/Boundary-Layer Interactions

  • An experimental study providing additional knowledge of quasi-conical symmetry in swept shock wave/turbulent boundary-layer interactions is described. When a turbulent boundary layer on the flat plate is subjected to interact with a swept planar shock wave, the interaction flowfield far from fin leading edge has a nature of conical symmetry, which topological features of the interaction flow appear to emanate from a virtual conical origin. Surface streakline patterns obtained from the kerosene-lampblack tracings have been utilized to obtain representative surface features of the flow, including the location of the virtual conical origin. The scaling law for the sharp-fin interactions suggested by previous investigators has been reexamined for different freestream Mach numbers. It is noticed that the scaling law reasonably agrees with the present experimental data, however, that the law is not appropriate to estimate the location of the virtual conical origin. Further knowledge of the correlation for the virtual conical origin has thus been proposed.

  • In order to reduce the lead-time and cost, the technology of rapid prototyping (RP) has been widely used. A new rapid prototyping process, transfer-type variable lamination manufacturing process by using expandable polystyrene foam (VLM-ST), has been developed to reduce building time, apparatus cost and additional post-processing. At the same time, VLM Slicer, the CAD/CAM software for VLM-ST has been developed. In this study, algorithms for accuracy improvement of VLM-ST, which include offset and overrun of a cutting path and generation of a reference shape are developed. Offset algorithm improves cutting accuracy, overrun algorithm enables the VLM-ST process to make a shape of sharp edge and reference shape generation algorithm adds additional shape which makes off-line lamination easier. In addition, proposed algorithms are applied to practical CAD models for verification.

평판 후류가 원통 표면의 물질전달에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental study on the effect of flat-plate wake on mass transfer about a cylinder in crossflow)

  • This study presents an experimental investigation of the effect of the wake on mass transfer about a circular cylinder in crossflow. The flat-plate wake was generated by merging two mirror images of turbulent boundary layers that were well developed along the both sides of flat plate with a sharp trailing edge. The velocity field was measured by a hot-wire system and the mass transfer rate by a naphthalene sublimation method. The mixing and developing stages of the wake were addressed to identify flow conditions. The mass transfer effects of different developing stages of the wake was discussed in detail. It is noted that a local maximum appears not at the front stagnation point but at a point a little downstream when the cylinder is located in the nearwake region and much more elevated mass transfer rate is obtained compared to effect of free-stream turbulence.

  • The flow characteristics of impinging jet flow are affected greatly by nozzle plate to distances. An sharp edge nozzle was used to achieve uniform mean velocity at the nozzle inlet, and its diameter is 10mm(d). Therefore, the flow characteristics on the impinging jet plate can be changed largely by the control of main flow. In the parent study, we investigate the effects of main flow length , its variable is nozle plate to distances( 12d, 10d, 8d, 6d and 4d).

Rotary bar 절삭공구 개발 및 성능 평가에 대한 연구 (The Research on Development and Performance of the Rotary bar Cutting tool)

  • Rotary bar was cutting tool being in use for deburring scale after welding metal and for eliminating sharp edges. It was necessary to develop exclusive 6-axis machine being possible to process machining continuously for making an cutting edge of rotary bar and to revise easily machining program. This study aimed at the structural analysis of strength according to the configuration of new made 6-axis machine and at the machining accuracy and durability of rotary bar. As a result of test, the runout of new rotary bar manufactured out of 6-axis machine was decreased from 0.385 mm to 0.027mm extensively than old one. And good cutting ability and durability was obtained equal quality compared with imported products.

미세 캐비티 방전 가공에서 바닥면 형상 왜곡 (Distortion of the Bottom Surface in Micro Cavity Machining Using MEDM)

  • As mechanical components are miniaturized, the demand on micro die and mold is increasing. Micro mechanical components usually have high hardness and good conductivity. So micro electrical discharge machining (MEDM) is an effective way to machine those components. In micro cavity fabrication using MEDM, it is observed that the bottom surface of cavity is distorted. Electric charges tend to be concentrated at the sharp edge. At the center of the bottom surface, debris can not be drawn off easily. These two phenomena make the bottom surface of the electrode and workpiece distort. As machining depth increases, the distorted shape of electrode approaches hemisphere. This process is affected by capacitance and the size of electrode. By using a smaller electrode than the desired cavity size and appropriate tool movement, bottom shape distortion can be prevented.

  • 3차원 모델은 흔히 비정규(irregular connectivity) 삼각형 메쉬로 구성된다. 비정규 메쉬를 정규(completely-regular connectivity) 메쉬로 재생성라면 기하 정보를 정규적인 연결성에 상응하는 2차원 형태의 이미지로 나타낼 수 있다. 본 논문은 매개변수(parameter) 영역에서 비정규 메쉬의 특징점들로 연결된 날카로운 모서리(sharp edge)로의 특징 snapping 을 통하여 기존의 방법으로 생성된 기하 이미지보다 특징이 잘 보호된 기하 이미지 생성에 대한 방법을 제시한다. 우선 비정규 메쉬를 구성하는 정점들의 곡률을 계산한 후 매개변수 영역에서 곡률이 증가하는 방향으로 snapping을 적용하였다. 실험 결과, 본 논문에서 제시한 방법이 기존의 방법에 비해 비정규 메쉬의 특징을 보다 잘 보호할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

익형 핀 히트싱크의 냉각특성 (Cooling Characteristics of Wing Fin Heat Sink)

  • Heat sink has extended surface area for enhanced heat transfer. The enhanced convection heat transfer has been used widely, such as cooling electronic chips in the electronics industry. Heat sink usually requires an increase in the heat transfer and a decrease in the pressure drop, and must improve the performance in the flow field of industrial plants. In this study, wing fin heat sink was studied and tests were conducted in a rectangular cross sectional channel with wing fin heat sinks. The leading and trailing ends of a wing fin have a sharp edge, simulating the airfoil feature. Empirical correlations have been developed for wing fin heat sink types. And wing fin heat sinks have better cooling performance than elliptic fin and square fin types.
