  • This study presents an approach for approximation an unknown function from a numerical data set based on the synthesis of a neuro-fuzzy model. An adaptive input data space parting method, which is used for building hyperbox-shaped clusters in the input data space, is proposed. Each data cluster is implemented here as a fuzzy set using a membership function MF with a hyperbox core that is constructed from a min vertex and a max vertex. The focus of interest in proposed approach is to increase degree of fit between characteristics of the given numerical data set and the established fuzzy sets used to approximate it. A new cutting procedure, named NCP, is proposed. The NCP is an adaptive cutting procedure using a pure function $\Psi$ and a penalty function $\tau$ for direction the input data space parting process. New algorithms named CSHL, HLM1 and HLM2 are presented. The first new algorithm, CSHL, built based on the cutting procedure NCP, is used to create hyperbox-shaped data clusters. The second and the third algorithm are used to establish adaptive neuro- fuzzy inference systems. A series of numerical experiments are performed to assess the efficiency of the proposed approach.

  • This paper present a new disk-type piezoelectric transformer. The input side of the transformer has a crescent-shaped electrode and the output side has a focused poling direction. This transformer has multi-layered structure. The piezoelectric transformers operated m each transformer's resonance vibration mode. The electrodes and poling directions on commercialy available piezoelectric ceramic disks were designed so that the planar or shear mode coupling factor ($k_p,\;k_{15}$) becomes effective rather than the transverse mode coupling factor ($k_{31}$). The Resonance frequency is 65.22[kHz] and maximum voltage step-up ratio is 149. Multi-layered transformer has better efficiency and step-up ratio than the single-layered transformer.

  • In this paper, a compact planar ultra wideband (UWB, 3.1~10.6GHz) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is proposed. This antenna consists of two monopole planar UWB antennas and T-shaped stub decoupling between two antennas. The T-shaped stub improve the isolation characteristic at the wide band. The evolution strategy(ES) algorithm is employed to optimized design. As a result, optimized antenna has a return loss less than -10dB and the isolation less than -15dB from 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz. During the optimization process, the antenna gain is enhanced at lower band and the envelope correlation coefficient(ECC) is lower than 0.003.

  • We improve the free-space optical interconnection efficiency by using circular aperture computer-generated hologram (CGH). In free-space optical interconnection system using CGH, the single CGH is composed of sub-CGHs, which can change the direction of input beams to desired output positions, by Fourier transform. Each sub-CGH is rectangular shape, so the input beams through each sub-CGH are transformed to sinc functions in output plane. The side lobes of each sinc function are superimposed in output plane and they result in detection error in output plane, so the detection efficiency is low. We use the circular shaped sub-CGHs in order to reduce the side lobe value in output plane instead of rectangular shaped sub-CGHs. The each input beam is transformed to first-order Bessel functions through circular shaped sub-CGHs in output plane. The side lobes of first-order Bessel functions us low values compared with side lobes of sinc function, so we can improve the detection efficiency in output plane. We use binary phase modulated CGH, and confirm this improvement results by simulation.

The piezoelectric transformers operated in each transformer's resonance vibration mode. The electrodes and poling directions on commercially available piezoelectric ceramic disks were designed so that the planar or shear mode coupling factor $(k_p\;k_{15})$ becomes effective rather than the transverse mode coupling factor $(k_{31})$. ANSYS finite element code was used to analyze transformer behavior and to optimize electrode and poling configurations. The voltage step-up ratio of the proposed transformer has been markedly improved in comparison with that of the equivalent rectangular(Rosen) type. A single layer prototype transformer, $20\sim30mm$ in diameter and $1.0\sim3.5mm$ thick, was fabricated, such as step-up ratio, power transformation efficiency, and temperature were measured. While the transformer was driving a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp(CCFL), the temperature field of the transformer was also observed.

  • This paper discusses a framework for predicting the flexural strength of prestressed and non-prestressed FRP reinforced T-shaped concrete beams using soft computing techniques. An analysis of 83 tests performed on T-beams of varying widths has been conducted for this purpose with different widths of compressive face, beam depth, compressive strength of concrete, area of prestressed and non-prestressed FRP bars, elasticity modulus of prestressed and non-prestressed FRP bars, and the ultimate tensile strength of prestressed and non-prestressed FRP bars. By analyzing the data using two soft computing techniques, named artificial neural networks (ANN) and gene expression programming (GEP), the fundamental parameters affecting the flexural performance of prestressed and non-prestressed FRP reinforced T-shaped beams were identified. The results showed that although the proposed ANN model outperformed the GEP model with higher values of R and lower error values, the closed-form equation of the GEP model can provide a simple way to predict the effect of input parameters on flexural strength as the output. The sensitivity analysis results revealed the most influential input parameters in ANN and GEP models are respectively the beam depth and elasticity modulus of FRP bars.

  • In medium- and long-range optical imaging systems, atmospheric turbulence causes blurring and distortion of images, resulting in loss of image information. An image-restoration method based on an adaptive feature-fusion multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) dense U-shaped network (Unet) is proposed, to restore a single image degraded by atmospheric turbulence. The network's model is based on the MIMO-Unet framework and incorporates patch-embedding shallow-convolution modules. These modules help in extracting shallow features of images and facilitate the processing of the multi-input dense encoding modules that follow. The combination of these modules improves the model's ability to analyze and extract features effectively. An asymmetric feature-fusion module is utilized to combine encoded features at varying scales, facilitating the feature reconstruction of the subsequent multi-output decoding modules for restoration of turbulence-degraded images. Based on experimental results, the adaptive feature-fusion MIMO dense U-shaped network outperforms traditional restoration methods, CMFNet network models, and standard MIMO-Unet network models, in terms of image-quality restoration. It effectively minimizes geometric deformation and blurring of images.

  • This paper proposes a dry-type surface myoelectric sensor for the myoelectric hand prosthesis. The designed surface myoelectric sensor is composed of skin interface and processing circuits. The skin interface has one reference and two input electrodes, and the reference electrode is located in the center of two input electrodes. In this paper is proposed two types of sensors with the circle- and bar-shaped reference electrode, but all input electrodes are the bar-shaped. The metal material of the electrodes is the stainless steel (SUS440) that endures sweat and wet conditions. Considering the conduction velocity and the median frequency of the myoelectric signal, the inter-electrode distance (IED) between two input electrodes as 18mm, 20mm, and 22mm is selected. The signal processing circuit consists of a differential amplifier with a band pass filter, a band rejection filter for rejecting 60Hz power-line noise, amplifiers, and a mean absolute value(MAV) circuit. Using SUS440, six prototype skin interface with different reference electrode shape and IED is fabricated, and their output characteristics are evaluated by output signal obtained from the forearm of a healthy subject. The experimental results show that the skin interface with parallel bar shape and the 18mm IED has a good output characteristics. The fabricated dry-type surface myoelectric sensor is evaluated for the upper-limb amputee.
