Hand Shape Detection and Recognition using Self Organized Feature Map(SOMF) and Principal Component Analysis (자기 조직화 특징 지도(SOFM)와 주성분 분석을 이용한 손 형상 검출 및 인식)

  • This study proposed a robust detection algorithm. It detects hands more stably with respect to changes in light and rotation for the identification of a hand shape. Also it satisfies both efficiency of calculation and the function of detection. The algorithm proposed segmented the hand area through pre-processing using a hand shape as input information in an environment with a single camera and then identified the shape using a Self Organized Feature Map(SOFM). However, as it is not easy to exactly recognize a hand area which is sensitive to light, it has a large degree of freedom, and there is a large error bound, to enhance the identification rate, rotation information on the hand shape was made into a database and then a principal component analysis was conducted. Also, as there were fewer calculations due to the fewer dimensions, the time for real-time identification could be decreased.

Score Image Retrieval to Inaccurate OMR performance

  • This paper presents an algorithm for effective retrieval of score information to an input score image. The originality of the proposed algorithm is that it is designed to be robust to recognition errors by an OMR (Optical Music Recognition), while existing methods such as pitch histogram requires error induced OMR result be corrected before retrieval process. This approach helps people to retrieve score without training on music score for error correction. OMR takes a score image as input, recognizes musical symbols, and produces structural symbolic notation of the score as output, for example, in MusicXML format. Among the musical symbols on a score, it is observed that filled noteheads are rarely detected with errors with its simple black filled round shape for OMR processing. Barlines that separate measures also strong to OMR errors with its long uniform length vertical line characteristic. The proposed algorithm consists of a descriptor for a score and a similarity measure between a query score and a reference score. The descriptor is based on note-count, the number of filled noteheads in a measure. Each part of a score is represented by a sequence of note-count numbers. The descriptor is an n-gram sequence of the note-count sequence. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm works successfully to a certain degree in score image-based retrieval for an erroneous OMR output.

  • In this paper, Face recognition algorithm is designed based on optimized pRBFNNs pattern classifier using three-dimensional scanner. Generally two-dimensional image-based face recognition system enables us to extract the facial features using gray-level of images. The environmental variation parameters such as natural sunlight, artificial light and face pose lead to the deterioration of the performance of the system. In this paper, the proposed face recognition algorithm is designed by using three-dimensional scanner to overcome the drawback of two-dimensional face recognition system. First face shape is scanned using three-dimensional scanner and then the pose of scanned face is converted to front image through pose compensation process. Secondly, data with face depth is extracted using point signature method. Finally, the recognition performance is confirmed by using the optimized pRBFNNs for solving high-dimensional pattern recognition problems.

  • A text-dependent speaker recognition system using a robust matching process is studied. The feature histogram of LPC cepstral coefficients for matching is used. The matching process uses mixture network with penalty scores. Using probability and shape comparison of two feature histograms, similarity values are obtained. The experiment results will be shown to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper describes an algorithm that can recognize gestures constructing subspace gesture symbols with hybrid feature information. The previous popular methods based on geometric feature and appearance have resulted in ambiguous output in case of recognizing between similar gesture because they use just the Position information of the hands, feet or bodily shape features. However, our proposed method can classify not only recognition of motion but also similar gestures by the partial feature information presenting which parts of body move and the global feature information including 2-dimensional bodily motion. And this method which is a simple and robust recognition algorithm can be applied in various application such surveillance system and intelligent interface systems.

  • In this paper we propose a new method for anlayzing the properties of surface reflectance and reconstructing the shape of object using estimated reflectance parameters. We have investigated the hybrid reflectance surface which has specularreflection and diffuse reflection, which can be explained by Torrance-Sparrow model. Sample sphere made on one maerial is used to estimate the reflectance properties by using LMS algorithm. We can make the reference image which consists of surface normal and brightness value using estimated reflectance parameters, and thenarbitrary shape object made of the same material as sample can be reconstructed by matching with reference image. Photometric matching method proposed in this paper is robust because it mateches object image with the reference imageconsidering its neighbor brightness distribution. Also, in this paper plate diffuse illumination is used to remove intensity disparity with simple scheme. It is expected that the proposed algorithm can be applied to 3D recognition, vision inspection system and other fields.

  • The MST (Minimum Spanning Tree) matching algorithm had been used for searching the part accord points extracted from the gray level fingerprint image. The method, however, had some limitations. To obtain the relationship between enrolled and inputted fingerprint, the MST was used to generate the tree graph that represent the unique graph for given fingerprint data. From the graph, the accord points are estimated. However, the shape of the graph highly depends on the positions of the minutiae.   • AAM(Active Appearance Model) is an algorithm to extract face feature points with statistical models of shape and texture information based on PCA(Principal Component Analysis). This method is widely used for face recognition, face modeling and expression recognition. However, the detection performance of AAM algorithm is sensitive to initial value and the AAM method has the problem that detection error is increased when an input image is quite different from training data. Especially, the algorithm shows high accuracy in case of closed lips but the detection error is increased in case of opened lips and deformed lips according to the facial expression of user. To solve these problems, we propose the improved AAM algorithm using lip feature points which is extracted based on a new lip detection algorithm. In this paper, we select a searching region based on the face feature points which are detected by AAM algorithm. And lip corner points are extracted by using Canny edge detection and histogram projection method in the selected searching region. Then, lip region is accurately detected by combining color and edge information of lip in the searching region which is adjusted based on the position of the detected lip corners. Based on that, the accuracy and processing speed of lip detection are improved. Experimental results showed that the RMS(Root Mean Square) error of the proposed method was reduced as much as 4.21 pixels compared to that only using AAM algorithm.

  • This paper suggest target detection algorithm for mobile robot control using color and shape recognition. In many cases, ultrasonic sensor(USS) is used in mobile robot system to measure the distance between obstacles. But with only USS, it may have many restrictions. So we attached CCD camera to mobile robot to overcome its restrictions. If visual information is given to robot system then robot system will be able to accomplish more complex mission successfully. With acquired vision data, robot looks for target by color and recognize its shape.
