This paper proposes a noncontact thermography technique for fatigue crack evaluation under a cyclic tensile loading. The proposed technique identifies and localizes an invisible fatigue crack without scanning, thus making it possible to instantaneously evaluate an incipient fatigue crack. Based on a thermoelastic theory, a new fatigue crack evaluation algorithm is proposed for the fatigue crack-tip localization. The performance of the proposed algorithm is experimentally validated. To achieve this, the cyclic tensile loading is applied to a dog-bone shape aluminum specimen using a universal testing machine, and the corresponding thermal responses induced by thermoelastic effects are captured by an infrared camera. The test results confirm that the fatigue crack is well identified and localized by comparing with its microscopic images.
The location template matching(LTM) method is a technique of identifying an impact location on a structure, and requires a certain measure of similarity between two time signals. In general, the correlation coefficient is widely used as the measure of similarity, while the group delay based method is recently proposed to improve the accuracy of the impact localization. Another possible measure is the frequency response assurance criterion(FRAC), though this has not been applied yet. In this paper, these three different measures of similarity are examined comparatively by using experimental data in order to understand the properties of these measures of similarity. The comparative study shows that the correlation coefficient and the FRAC give almost the same information while the group delay based method gives the shape oriented information that is best suitable for the location template matching method.

Vision system is an indispensable part of constructing the chess-playing robot. Chessboard detection and pieces localization in the captured image of robot's camera are important steps for processes followed such as pieces recognition, move calculation, and robot controlling. We present a method for detecting the Janggi chessboard and pieces based on the edge and color feature. Hough transform combined with line extraction is used for segmenting the chessboard and warping it to form the rectangle shape in order to detect and interpolate the lines of chessboard. Then we detect the existence of pieces and their side by applying the saliency map and checking the color distribution at piece locations. While other methods either work only with the empty chessboard or do not care about the piece existence, our method could detect sufficiently side and position of pieces as well as lines of the chessboard even if the occlusion happens.
In this paper, As the wavelet transform has the properties of multi-resolution analysis and time-frequency domain localization, application of wavelet transform is used at partial discharge(PD) signal detected by electromagnetic wave detection method to extract PD signal's various frequency component and its time domain. therefore we can analyzed PD signal's time-frequency domain simultaneously. On the other hand, using wavelet transform denoising process, inclued noise signal in detected PD signal is well elimiated. we can propose the true shape of PD signal.
In this research, microfabrication technique using localized electrochemical deposition is presented. Electric field is localized near the tip end region by applying ultra short pulses. Platinum tip is used as the counter electrode and copper is deposited on the copper substrate in 0.5 M CuSO$_4$ and 0.5 M H$_2$SO$_4$ electrolyte. The deposition characteristics such as size, shape, and structural density according to pulse duration and applied voltage are investigated. Micro-columns less than 10 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in diameter are fabricated using the presented technique. The process can be potentially used for three dimensional metal structure fabrications with micrometer feature size.
The aim of this work is to develop 3-D stereotactic localization system in order to determine the precise shape, size and location of the lesion in the brain in the field of Stereotactic Radiosurgery(SRS) and neurosurgery using CT/MRI/angiography and multi-purpose QA phantom. The algorithms to obtain a 3-D stereotactic coordinates of the target have been developed, and targets on each CT image were superimposed each other on MR/angiography images without distortion corretion. This system was implented in Visual C++ as a PC-based application program.
The Reproducing Kernel Particle Method (RKPM), one of the popular meshless methods, is developed and applied to stress concentration problems. Since the meshless methods require only a set of particles (or nodes) and the description of boundaries in their formulation, the adaptivity can be implemented with much more ease than finite element method. In addition, due to its intrinsic property of multiresolution, the shape function of RKPM provides us a new criterion for adaptivity. Recently, this multiple scale Reproducing Kernel Particle Method and its adaptive procedure have been formulated for large deformation problems by the authors. They are also under development for damage materials and localization problems. In this paper the multiple scale RKPM for linear elasticity is presented and the adaptive procedure is applied to stress concentration problems. Therefore, this work may be regarded as the edition of linear elasticity in the complete framework of multiple scale RKPM and the associated adaptivity.
Accurate detection, tracking and analysis of human movement using robots and other visual surveillance systems is still a challenge. Efforts are on to make the system robust against constraints such as variation in shape, size, pose and occlusion. Traditional methods of detection used the sliding window approach which involved scanning of various sizes of windows across an image. This paper concentrates on employing a state-of-the-art, hierarchical graph based method for segmentation. It has two stages: part level segmentation for color-consistent segments and object level segmentation for category-consistent regions. The tracking phase is achieved by employing SIFT keypoint descriptor based technique in a combined matching and tracking scheme with validation phase. Localization of human region in each frame is performed by keypoints by casting votes for the center of the human detected region. As it is difficult to avoid incorrect keypoints, a consensus-based framework is used to detect voting behavior. The designed methodology is tested on the video sequences having 3 to 4 persons.
