  • In this study, a design method of developed shape for double-curved pressure vessel segment heads was proposed in consideration of in-plane strain induced by forming works. In order to obtain the developed shape of double-curved plate, at first, the segments are subdivided into elements and then they are stacked into a series of strips producing the outline of the approximately developed shape. The developed shape was determined by imposing the in-plane displacement obtained from forming analysis and regression analysis on the outline of the approximately developed shape. The validation of the proposed design method was verified by applying it to the actual products.

  • The geometric configuration in the weight-reduced structure is very required to be started from the conceptual design with low cost, high performance and quality. In this point, a structural-topological shape concerned with conceptual design of structure is important. The method used in this paper combines three optimization techniques, where the shape and physical dimensions of the structure and material distribution are hierachically optimized, with the maximum rigidity of structure and lightweight.

  • In estimating designed architectural buildings, many factors in various design domains such as function, structure, form, environment may be considered and then a building design might be selected or modified as final design from many possible design results. This paper proposed a method to obtain complexity values from two dimensional drawings which are floor plans or elevations. The Complexity values could be turned into esthetic values. The method has been developed based on information theory, shape pattern representation and cognitive theory. Results of measuring complexity value can make the computer evaluate and select final results produced from automatic design processes by the computer That is to say, aesthetic values based on order and chaos can be measured using complexity values and then some results having superior values can be selected as final result. Also some cognitive processes as perception of two dimensional drawings are discussed using shape representations. Aesthetic values could be varied in terms of shape properties such as size, individualities and knowledge as well as order and chaos.

  • Tight integration of product design and process planning in the early design stage would make bigger impact as wider spectrum of design and manufacturing alternatives can be pursued and evaluated. Thus the development of systematic computer-based support for this integration is desirable. For this integration and process planning in the early design stage. the systematic method to synthesize shape of part from functional requirements is crucial. This research presents the methods of functional decomposition from overall function or product and synthesizing shape of part based on functional relations extracted from functional decomposition using planetary gear transmission system as an example.

  • The impeller and vane diffuser for the mixed flow pump(NS550) was designed by using meridional selection program and inverse design method. We decided the meridional shape of the impeller from the meridional design parameter, such as the specific speed and maximum diameter at the impeller exit. The meridional shape of vane diffuser was set from the impeller shape, distribution of cross sectional area and maximum diffuser diameter. The angle of impeller blade and diffuser vane was designed by using inverse design method. The predicted overall performance by using commercial CFD code(ANSYS CFX-11) shown good agreement with design goals.

  • In the concurrent engineering, the CAD-based design model is necessary for multidisciplinary analysis and for computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). A shape and configuration design velocity field computation of structure has been developed using a computer-aided design (CAD) tool, Pro/ENGINEER. The design Parameterization with CAD tool is to characterize the change in dimensions and movements of geometric control points that govern the shape/orientation of the structural boundary. The boundary velocity is obtained by using a CAD-based finite difference method and the domain velocity field is obtained from finite element analysis (FEA) using the boundary displacement method. In this paper, the continuum configuration DSA for NVH problem, which requires the shape velocity field and the orientation velocity field at the same time, is developed using linear shape functions. For validation of continuum design sensitivity coefficients, design sensitivity coefficients are compared with the coefficients computed using by the finite difference method.

  • In the design of bridges, the points of concem are the landscape design, the function, safety and economical efficiency. But most of studies have been performed on structural engineering. The study on the landscape design of bridges has not been done in korea. Therefore, in this research, the design method of bridges by the judgement of structural engineering and landscape engineering has been proposed, through the process to decide the shape of bridges. Also, the research studies a problem about the visual safety of the structural shape in the landscape design of bridges. The visual experiments applied to the seven models about the shape of hunch in bridge pier. The experiment was made in moving velocity of view point, steady looking time and track of eyeball movement.

  • Clothing shape is principally described in seven factors that are composed of clothing design, clothing material, clothing size, pattern design, sewing method and body motion etc. The aims of this study was to measurement out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body by using the image processing. The subjects for direct anthropometric measurements were 248 female college students aged from 19 to 22. The data were statistically analyzed by principal analysis and cluster analysis. The results selected one somatotype. for the out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body, there dimensional clothing shapes measured. and cross-sectional clothing shape obtained by the measurement was considered to be space wave form. The out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body was observed between the node number and amplitudes of clothing wave form, and node number was determined at the maxim of space-shape amplitude, and the space-shape amplitudes have related with aspect ratio of cross-sectional shape.   • In this study, the relationship between the shape of a passenger airbag and the possibility of injury is analyzed using the Taguchi method. The optimal shape combination is proposed for a design guideline that can reduce the possibility of injury to the dummy. The airbag FE model for analysis is obtained using a CAD system that can change the shape through several independent variables. The widths of the left / right, top / bottom, and back / forth direction of the airbag shape are set as the design factors, and the effect of the combination injury probability according to the shape is analyzed. The minimum geometric combinations are obtained using the orthogonal array method. The signal to noise ratio is calculated and the optimal shape combination is obtained through sensitivity analysis. The obtained optimal shape combination is compared with the possibility of injury of the initial airbag shape to confirm improved airbag performance.
