Counter-deforming Method for a Bracket Design of a Ship Via Geometric Shape Deformation (기하적인 형상 변형을 이용한 선박 브라켓 부재의 역변형 설계)

  • A method of designing a manufacturing shape of ship plate parts considering welding deformation is introduced. In this paper, the design shape of a bracket is deformed not by a thermoelastic method but by a pure geometric method. Deformation quantities are estimated based on data captured in the field and then a manufacturing design shape is obtained by deforming an original design shape by a geometric deformation method. The proposed method has been implemented and tested in the shipyard.

  • A jetfighter shape modeling method based on design features is researched, to improve the efficiency of shape modeling in the stage of conceptual aircraft design. The aircraft's general design features and shape parameters, including geometric and position parameters, are described. The coordinate systems of the entire aircraft and its components are defined. As a sample of local shape, a method of inlet intake modeling is introduced. The whole process of the modeling method is proposed. Three examples of different jetfighters are listed, to describe the achievement of basic layout, which includes four main elements. The Fusion of Components can be achieved by regulating the details of the sections of the fuselage. Sample Cases of typical layouts are shown to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, which provides the basis for further analysis and optimization.

  • In the shape design optimization of an airfoil, the shape function has been used to find the optimal airfoil shape for given conditions. The parameters determining the airfoil shape are used in the shape design optimization as design variables. However, they usually don't have physical meaning. The PARSEC (Parametric Shapes) function is a recently proposed shape function and its parameters have the physical meaning. In this study the usefulness of the PARSEC is tested for the RAE2822 airfoil in the transonic flow region to reduce the shock strength and the result is compared with Hicks-Henne function. The optimized airfoils reduce the shock strength and they show similar result.

  • It is very important to design the shape of container in HIPing process since the final shape and relative density distribution of the product are decisively dependent on the shape of container. A derivative based approach to determine the shape of container in HIPing process is presented. In this approach the optimal design problem is formulated on the basis of the finite element process. The process model the formulation for process optimal design and the schemes for the evaluation of the design sensitivity and an iterative procedure for optimization are described. In comparison with finite difference scheme the validity of the schemes for the evaluation of the design sensitivity is examined.

  • A new blank design method is proposed to predict the optimum initial blank shape in the sheet metal forming process. The rollback method for blank shape design takes the difference between final deformed shaped and target contour shape into account. Based on the method a computer program composed of blank design module FE-analysis program and mesh generation module is developed. The rollback method is applied to square cup drawing process with the flange of unifiorm size around its periphery to confirm its validity. The optimum initial blank shape is obtained from an arbitrary square blank after three modification. Good agreements are recognized between the numerical results and the published results for initial blank shape and thickness strain distribution. The optimum blank shape for two parts of automobile sub-frame is designed, The thickness distribution and the level of punch load is improved. Also the method is applied to design the weld line in the tailor-welded blank. It is concluded that the rollback method is an effective and convenient method for an optimum blank shape design.

  • Present work deals with a shape optimal design to minimize the weight of the mask-frame used in the process of OLED vapor deposition by the fine metal mask. A design concept for an optimal shape of the frame to increase the stiffness and to reduce the weight is derived using the topology optimization, shape design variables of the frame by adopting slots being defined. An optimal shape is determined by solving the shape optimization problem to minimize the weight of the frame under constraints of the maximum displacement. Weight of the optimal design is 117.6 kg, which is reduced by 138.4 kg(54.1%) of that of the first design, 256 kg.

  • In this paper, a shape design optimization method for linearly elastic problems is developed using isogeometric approach. In many design optimization problems for practical engineering models, initial raw data usually come from a CAD modeler. Then, designers should convert the CAD data into finite element mesh data since most of conventional design optimization tools are based on finite element analysis. During this conversion, there are some numerical errors due to geometric approximation, which causes accuracy problems in response as well as design sensitivity analyses. As a remedy for this phenomenon, the isogeometric analysis method can be one of the promising approaches for the shape design optimization. The main idea of isogeometric approach is that the basis functions used in analysis is exactly the same as the ones representing the geometry. This geometrically exact model can be used in the shape sensitivity analysis and design optimization as well. Therefore the shape design sensitivity with high accuracy can be obtained, which is very essential for a gradient-based optimization. Through numerical examples, it is verified that the shape design optimization based on an isogeometic approach works well.

  • In recent years, design of an optimal blank shape is very important for sheet metal forming process in the automobile industry because the raw material cost rate is significant part in the automobile industry. With the design of an optimal blank shape, the engineer can protect a blank from an excessive holding force to improve the quality and reduce the ratio of material scrap. Therefore design of an optimal blank shape is inevitable in sheet metal forming process. However, if it causes a complicated shape of blank, it may be difficult to do the blank layout optimally. In this study, we developed software of optimal blank layout connected with the software of optimal blank shape design which was created in the past by the present authors. And by using these softwares, we would like to present the method in order to get optimal utilization ratio easily and precisely within short time for the sequence of works from design to blank layout.

  • An Optimal shape design of the boom system in high ladder vehicles is performed using 3-D finite element method (FEM). Results of structural analyses providing displacements, stresses are implemented for the optimum shape design. Lanzcos algorithm is used for the modal analysis in order to find natural frequencies. The optimal shape including cross sectional thickness and length of the boom system is controlled by the subproblem method besed on displacement and Von Mises stress. It is found that a plenty of materials can be saved by using shape design optimization in high ladder vehicles. It is also found that the natural frequency is increased until 6th mode and maintained similarly or decreased after 6th mode.

  • Cam mechanism is one of the common devices used in many automatic machinery. Specially cylindrical cam generates three dimensional motions. Thus, the shape design procedures must have high accuracy. This paper proposes the shape design procedure for a cylindrical cam and follower mechanism using a relative velocity method. The relative velocity method and the coordinate transformation are used to find a contact point between the cam and the follower. Also, the full shape of the cylindrical cam can be generated by using the geometric relationships and the contact constraints. As a result, this paper presents an example for the shape design of the cylindrical cam in order to prove the accuracy of the design procedures.
