This paper describes the development of a parallel computational algorithm based on the finite element tearing and interconnecting (FETI) method that uses a local Lagrange multiplier. In this approach, structural computational domain is decomposed into non-overlapping sub-domains using local Lagrange multiplier. The local Lagrange multipliers are imposed at interconnecting nodes. 8-node solid element using extra shape function is adopted by using the representative volume element (RVE). The parallel computational algorithm is further established based on message passing interface (MPI). Finally, the present FETI-local approach is implemented on parallel hardware and shows improved performance.
Hull girder stress monitoring system for container ship uses four long-base-strain-gages at mid-ship to monitor the resultant stresses and the applied moment components of horizontal, vertical and torsional moments. The bending moments are estimated by using the conventional strain-moment relations, however, the torsional moment related to the warping strain requires the assumption of the shape of torsional moments over the hull girder. Though this shape could be a sine function with an adequate period, it largely depends upon certain empirical formulas. This paper introduces additional four long-base-strain-gages at mid-ship to derive the longitudinal slope of the warping strain because this slope is directly related to the torsional moment by Bi-moment concept. An open-channel-type cantilever beam has been selected as a simplified model for container ship and the result has proved that the suggested concepts can estimate the torsional component accurately. Finally this method can become reliable technique to derive all external moments in hull girder stress monitoring system for container ships.

The use of gestures provides an attractive alternate to cumbersome interface devices for human-computer interaction. This has motivated a very active research area concerned with computer vision-based analysis and interpretation of hand gestures. The most important issues in gesture recognition are the simplification of algorithm and the reduction of processing time. The mathematical morphology based on geometrical set theory is best used to perform the processing. A key idea of proposed algorithm in this paper is to apply morphological shape decomposition. The primitive elements extracted to a hand gesture include in very important information on the directivity of the hand gestures. Based on this characteristic, we proposed the morphological gesture recognition algorithm using feature vectors calculated to lines connecting the center points of a main-primitive element and sub-primitive elements. Through the experiment, we demonstrated the efficiency of proposed algorithm. Coupling natural interactions such as hand gesture with an appropriately designed interface is a valuable and powerful component in the building of TV switch navigating and video contents browsing system.
In this research, a multilevel decomposition technique to enhance the efficiency of the configuration optimization of truss structures was proposed. On the first level, the nonlinear programming problem was formulated considering cross-sectional areas as design variables, weight, or volume as objective function and behavior under multiloading condition as design constraint. Said nonlinear programming problem was transformed into a sequential linear programming problem. which was effective in calculation through the approximation of member forces using behavior space approach. Such approach has proven to be efficient in sensitivity analysis and different form existing shape optimization studies. The modified method of feasible direction (MMFD) was used for the optimization process. On the second level, by treating only shape design variables, the optimum problem was transformed into and unconstrained optimal design problem. A unidirectional search technique was used. As numerical examples, some truss structures were applied to illustrate the applicability. and validity of the formulated algorithm.
This paper presents a practical method to efficiently extract the rotational part of a $3{\times}3$ matrix that changes continuously in time. This is the key technique in the corotational FEM and the shape matching deformation popular in physics-based dynamic deformation. Recently, in contrast to the traditional polar decomposition methods independent of time, an iterative method was proposed that formulates the rotation extraction in a physics-based way and exploits an incremental representation of rotation. We develop an optimization method that reduces the number of iterations under the assumption that the maximum magnitude of the incremental rotation vector is limited within ${\pi}/2$. Realistic simulation of dynamic deformation employs a sufficiently small time step, and thus this assumption is not problematic in practice. We demonstrate the efficiency and practicality of our method in various experiments.
This study investigated the degradation of N, N-Dimethyl-4-nitrosoaniline (RNO, indicator of the generation of OH radical) by using dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma. The DBD plasma reactor of this study consisted of a quartz dielectric tube, titanium discharge (inner) and ground (outer) electrode. The effect of shape (rod, spring and pipe) of ground electrode, diameter (9~30 mm) of ground electrode of spring shape and inside diameter (4~13 mm) of quartz tube, electrode diameter (1~4 mm), electrode materials (SUS, Ti, iron, Cu and W), height difference of discharge and ground electrode (1~15.5 cm) and gas flow rate (1~7 L/min) were evaluated. The experimental results showed that shape of ground electrode and materials of ground and discharge electrode were not influenced the RNO degradation. The thinner the diameter of discharge and ground electrode, the higher RNO degradation rate observed. The effect of height gap of discharge between ground electrode on RNO degradation was not high within the experimented value. Among the experimented parameters, inside diameter of quartz tube and gas flow rate were most important parameters which are influenced the decomposition of RNO. Optimum inside diameter of quartz tube and gas flow rate were 7 mm and 4 L/min, respectively.

The use of gestures provides an attractive alternate to cumbersome interface devices for human-computer interaction. This has motivated a very active research area concerned with computer vision-based analysis and interpretation of hand gestures The most important issues in gesture recognition are the simplification of algorithm and the reduction of processing time. The mathematical morphology based on geometrical set theory is best used to perform the processing. The key idea of proposed algorithm is to track a trajectory of center points in primitive elements extracted by morphological shape decomposition. The trajectory of morphological center points includes the information on shape orientation. Based on this characteristic we proposed the morphological gesture sequence recognition algorithm using feature vectors calculated to the trajectory of morphological center points. Through the experiment, we demonstrated the efficiency of proposed algorithm.
This study was carried out to investigate the changes of flower properties due to decomposition in the course of time and results obtained are as follows; 1. The flower shape of Salix babylonica changed so rapid that it was difficult to recognize fragments after 40 days. 2. Total weight decreased by 50% after about 40 days. Loss on ignition changed rapidly for 40 days and then steadily. 3. Remaining carbon content decreased by a half only for first 20 days, then did steadily. 4. The content of phosphorus and total nitrogen slowly during the early period and then rapidly. 5. Above phenomena are supposed to be responisble for water content, nitrogen, and phosphorus.
Transmission electron microscopy(TEM) investigation on the phase decomposition of B2-ordered (Ni,Co)Al supersaturated with Ni and Co has revealed the precipitation of $(Ni,Co)_2Al$ which has not been expected from the reported equilibrium phase diagram. The $(Ni,Co)_2Al$ phase has a hexagonal struture and takes a rod-like shape with the long axis of the rod parallel to the <111> directions of the B2 matrix. By aging at temperatures below 873 K, a long period Superlattice Structure appears in the hexagonal $(Ni,Co)_2Al$ Phase. The orientation relationship between the $(Ni,Co)_2Al$ Precipitates and the B2-(Ni,Co)Al matrix is found to be$(0001)_p$ // $(111)_{B2}$ and $[\bar{1}2\bar{1}0]_P$ // $[\bar{1}10]_{B2}$, Where the suffix p and B2 denote the $(Ni,Co)_2Al$ precipitate and the B2-(Ni,Co)Al matrix, respectively. (Ni,Co)Al hardens appreciably by the fine precipitation of the $(Ni,Co)_2Al$ phase. Energy dispersive spectroscopy was used to analyze the compositions of each phase formed in B2-(Ni,Co)Al.
The structural change of azo dye (Acid Red 27) by oxidation with ozone has been investigated using FT-IR and $^1H$ NMR. The solution pH was observed to decrease during oxidation reaction, which was considered to be due to the generation of several organic and inorganic acids as the result of the decomposition of azo compound. The FT-IR analysis showed that changes of specific absorption bands of Acid Red 27 were observed after ozonation. When azo dye was oxidized by ozone, several new peaks were shown to appear by $^1H$ NMR analysis and the peaks were generally shifted to the direction of up field. This was presumably due to the breakage of benzene ring contained in the molecular structure of Acid Red 27 by the oxidation and the shape of peaks was shown to change according to the reaction time.
