3D data can be categorized into two parts : Euclidean data and non-Euclidean data. In general, 3D data exists in the form of non-Euclidean data. Due to irregularities in non-Euclidean data such as mesh and point cloud, early 3D deep learning studies transformed these data into regular forms of Euclidean data to utilize them. This approach, however, cannot use memory efficiently and causes loses of essential information on objects. Thus, various approaches that can directly apply deep learning architecture to non-Euclidean 3D data have emerged. In this survey, we introduce various deep learning methods for mesh and point cloud data. After analyzing the operating principles of these methods designed for irregular data, we compare the performance of existing methods for shape classification and segmentation tasks.

Our work addresses the issues associated with usage of the semantic features by Bag of Words model, which requires construction of the dictionary. Extracting the relevant features and clustering them into code book or dictionary is computationally intensive and requires large storage area. Hence we propose to use a simple distribution of multiple shape based features, which is a mixture of gradients, radius and slope angles requiring very less computational cost and storage requirements but can serve as an equivalent image representative. The experimental work conducted on PASCAL VOC 2007 dataset exhibits marginally closer performance in terms of accuracy with the Bag of Word model using Self Organizing Map for clustering and very significant computational gain.

Lung cancer is considered to be the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. A technique commonly used consists of analyzing sputum images for detecting lung cancer cells. However, the analysis of sputum is time consuming and requires highly trained personnel to avoid errors. The manual screening of sputum samples has to be improved by using image processing techniques. In this paper we present a Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) system for early detection and diagnosis of lung cancer based on the analysis of the sputum color image with the aim to attain a high accuracy rate and to reduce the time consumed to analyze such sputum samples. In order to form general diagnostic rules, we present a framework for segmentation and extraction of sputum cells in sputum images using respectively, a Bayesian classification method followed by region detection and feature extraction techniques to determine the shape of the nuclei inside the sputum cells. The final results will be used for a (CAD) system for early detection of lung cancer. We analyzed the performance of a Bayesian classification with respect to the color space representation and quantification. Our methods were validated via a series of experimentation conducted with a data set of 100 images. Our evaluation criteria were based on sensitivity, specificity and accuracy.

In general, a classification process between ground data and non-ground data, which include building objects, is required prior to producing a DEM for a certain surface reconstruction from LiDAR data in which the DEM can be produced from the ground data, and certain objects like buildings can be reconstructed using non-ground data. Thus, an exact classification between ground and non-ground data from LiDAR data is the most important factor in the ground reconstruction process using LiDAR data. In particular, building objects can be largely used as digital maps, orthophotos, and urban planning regarding the object in the ground and become an essential to providing three dimensional information for certain urban areas. In this study, an entropy theory, which has been used as a standard of disorder or uncertainty for data used in the information theory, is used to apply a more objective and generalized method in the recognition and segmentation of buildings from raw LiDAR data. In particular, a method that directly uses the raw LiDAR data, which is a type of point shape vector data, without any changes, to a type of normal lattices was proposed, and the existing algorithm that segments LiDAR data into ground and non-ground data as a binarization manner was improved. In addition, this study proposes a generalized building extraction method that excludes precedent information for buildings and topographies and subsidiary materials, which have different data sources.
The accuracy of classifying pixels in HIRIS images is usually degraded by noisy bands since noisy bands may deform the typical shape of spectral reflectance. Proposed in this paper is a statistical method for noisy band removal which mainly makes use of the correlation coefficients between bands. Considering each band as a random variable, the correlation coefficient measures the strength and direction of a linear relationship between two random variables. While the correlation between two signal bands is high, existence of a noisy band will produce a low correlation due to ill-correlativeness and undirectedness. The application of the correlation coefficient as a measure for detecting noisy bands is under a two-pass screening scheme. This method is independent of the prior knowledge of the sensor or the cause resulted in the noise. The classification in this experiment uses the unsupervised k-nearest neighbor algorithm in accordance with the well-accepted Euclidean distance measure and the spectral angle mapper measure. This paper also proposes a hierarchical combination of these measures for spectral matching. Finally, a separability assessment based on the between-class and within-class scatter matrices is followed to evaluate the performance.

The city means not only a geographical area as a role of the spatial boundary, but also a socio-economic place to communicate with each part. It requires various functions to get the income and activities. But city has a limitation of a available land to provide the required function and a sufficient space to supply the activity. Therefore, the development trend of city has not been to spread to the horizontal area any more and considered the vertical area. In addition, various functions put into a massive building because many people want to solve the daily requirements without spending time and cost. In this paper, it aimed at classifying the mixed-use building into function, circulation, relation between the public and private space and the building shape to provide the design information according to the development constraints such as land area, functional limitation, accessibility, etc. The classification of the mixed-use buildings is divided into four areas. The data are collected with foreign countries in Japan, Europe and US.

In this paper, a method to estimate ice loads as a function of the buttock angle of an icebreaker is presented with respect to polycrystalline freshwater ice. Ice model tests for different buttock angles and impact velocities are carried out to investigate ice pressure loads and tendencies of ice pressure loads in terms of failure modes. Experimental devices were fabricated with an idealized icebreaker bow shape, and medium-scale ice specimens were used. A dry-drop machine with a freefall system was used, and four pressure sensors were installed at the bottom to estimate ice pressure loads. An estimation equation was suggested on the basis of the test results. We analyzed the estimation equation for design ice loads of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) classification rules. We suggest an estimation equation considering the relation between ice load, buttock angle, and velocity by modifying the equations given in the IACS classification rules.
While global demand for energy increases annually, at the same time the demand for carbon-free, sulphur-free and NOx-free energy sources grows considerably. This state poses a challenge in the research for newer sources like biomass and shale gas as well as renewable energy resources such as solar, wind, geothermal and hydraulic energy. Although wave energy also is a form of renewable energy it has not fully been exploited technically and economically so far. This study tries to explain those reasons in which it is beyond doubt that the demand for wave energy will soon increase as fossil energy resources are depleted and environmental concerns gain more importance. The electrical energy supplied to the grid shall be produced from wave energy whose conversion devices can basically work according to three different systems. i. Systems that exploit the motions or shape deformations of their mechanisms involved, being driven by the energy of passing waves. ii. Systems that exploit the weight of the seawater stored in a reservoir or the changes of water pressure by the oscillations of wave height, iii. Systems that convert the wave motions into air flow. One of the aims of this study is to present the classification deficits of the wave energy converters (WECs) of the "wave developers" prepared by the European Marine Energy Center, which were to be reclassified. Furthermore, a new classification of all WECs listed by the European Marine Energy Center was arranged independently. The other aim of the study is to assess the technological state of the art of these WECs designed and/or produced, to obtain an overview on them.
This study aims to find out the characteristics and the type classification of contemporary public libraries in terms of browsing circuit. In so doing, it is to analyze 21 recently built libraries by using the browsing circuit, the spatial depth and the spatial layout. The study makes use of codes derived from the concept of 'Classification' and 'Frame' suggested by a pedagogist, Basil Bernstein. As a result, it shows that two codes are phased in overseas cases. In other words, one type is a lower depth of space and a high rate of rings with the multi-layer circuits and the three-dimensional circuit of multi-centered. the other type is the higher depth of space and a low rate of rings with the single-layer circuit and the multi-layer circuit of single-centered. In domestic cases, 4 types are shown. The characteristics of layout are seen as a radial shape and the rate of rings is lower than the overseas cases. It can be said that these results are a transitional phenomenon. For browsing circuit, domestic public libraries would be adapted to the three-dimensional circuit of multi-centered, a lower depth of space and a high rate of rings. By instructions of this plan, the real meaning of a public library will be come true.
Triplex composite is an epoxy-bonded joint structure, which constitutes the secondary barrier in a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier. Defects in the triplex composite weaken its shear strength and may cause leakage of the LNG, thus compromising the structural integrity of the LNG carrier. This paper proposes an autonomous triplex composite inspection (ATCI) system for visualizing and classifying hidden defects in the triplex composite installed inside an LNG carrier. First, heat energy is generated on the surface of the triplex composite using halogen lamps, and the corresponding heat response is measured by an infrared (IR) camera. Next, the region of interest (ROI) is traced and noise components are removed to minimize false indications of defects. After a defect is identified, it is classified as internal void or uncured adhesive and its size and shape are quantified and visualized, respectively. The proposed ATCI system allows the fully automated and contactless detection, classification, and quantification of hidden defects inside the triplex composite. The effectiveness of the proposed ATCI system is validated using the data obtained from actual triplex composite installed in an LNG carrier membrane system.
