A parametric study was carried out to find the fuel lubrication performance of high speed small rolling element bearings. Both MIL-PRF-7808 turbine oil and JP-8 aircraft fuel were used as the lubricant to compare the operational characteristics. 17 mm inner diameter deep groove ball bearing and 20 mm cylindrical roller bearing were used. A high speed bearing test rig was developed and the testing was done with varying applied load, cooling air temperature, lubricant flow rate, and speed. Fuel caused more cage wear than oil for ball bearing with increasing axial load and rotational speed. The bearing temperature using fuel was lower than that using oil, and this seems to be the result of the high cooling capacity of fuel. According to various tests, the fuel lubrication is applicable for the lubrication on the main shaft bearings of expendable small gas turbines.
In this paper, the empirical relations of skin friction and end bearing resistance with the results of site investigation in soft rock are proposed through the analysis of bi-directional pile load tests of rock socketed drilled shafts performed at large offshore bridge foundations and high-rise building projects (13 test piles in 4 projects). The site investigation and drilling for bi-directional pile load tests were performed at the centers of test piles, and f-w curves for skin friction and q-w curves for end bearing were plotted based on load-transfer measurements. From the above curves, the empirical relations of skin friction and end bearing resistance with the results of site investigation depending on the mobilized displacement are determined by multiple regression analysis and compared with previous studies. Since the f-w and q-w curves of rock-socketed piles in Korea show hardening behavior according to mobilized displacement, the developed empirical relations by the mobilized displacement are more reasonable than those of previous studies which could not consider the mobilized displacement and suggested the ultimate capacity with unconfined compressive strength only. Particularly, the developed equations correlated with unconfined compressive strength show the best correlations among the equations correlated with other parameters.
Suction buckets have been widely used for offshore structures such as anchors for floating facilities, and the foundations of offshore wind energy turbines. However, the design guidelines for suction buckets have not been clearly suggested. Therefore, this study performed the numerical analysis by using ABAQUS (2010) to evaluate bearing capacities and load-movement behaviors of the suction bucket in NC clay. For the numerical analysis, the depth ratio L/D (L=embedded length of skirt; D=diameter of a bucket) was varied from 0.25 to 1.0. The analysis results showed that the L/D ratio has a significant effect on the bearing capacity, and the vertical and horizontal capacities respectively increased by about 40% and 90%, when L/D ratio increased from 0.25 to 1.0. At the vertical loading, the bucket showed the similar failure mode with a deep foundation, so the shaft and toe resistances can be separately evaluated. At the horizontal loading, the bucket with L/D=O.25 showed the sliding failure mode and the bucket with $L/D{\geq}0.5$ showed the rotational failure mode.

The steel pipe of steel-concrete composite piles increases the pile strength and induces the ductile failure by constraining the deformation of the inner concrete. In this research, the load-movement relations and the reinforcement effect by the outer steel pipe in the steel-concrete composite pile were analyzed by performing three-dimensional numerical analyses, which can simulate the yielding behavior of the pile material and the elasto-plastic behavior of soils. The parameters analyzed in the study include three pile materials of steel, concrete and composite, pile diameter and loading direction. As the results, the axial capacity of the composite pile was 1.9 times larger than that of the steel pipe pile and similar with that of the concrete pile. At the allowable movement criteria, the horizontal capacity of the composite pile was 1.46 times larger than that of the steel pile and 1.25 times larger than that of the concrete pile. In addition, the horizontal movement at the pile head of the composite pile was about 78% of that of the steel pile and about 53% of that of the concrete pile, which showed that the movement reduction effect of the composite pile was significant and enables the economical design of drilled shafts.

As the skin friction of an embedded pile is produced by the cement paste injected into the borehole, the skin friction cannot be evaluated by the end of initial driving test, which is conducted before the cement paste is cured. In addition, the total resistance of an embedded pile may not be properly evaluated during the restrike test if the base resistance is not fully mobilized because of the insufficient driven energy. The objective of this study is to suggest a new load-settlement curve of embedded piles by combining the results of the end of initial driving and restrike tests. Test piles are installed at fields by using the embedded pile method, and the results of the dynamic pile tests are analyzed using CAse Pile Wave Analysis Program (CAPWAP) after the end of initial driving and restrike tests are conducted. A new load transfer curve, which combines the behaviors of the pile base at the end of initial driving and of the pile shaft at the restrike, is suggested, and a new load-settlement curve is obtained. Subsequently, the resistances of the test piles are evaluated using the combined load-settlement curve, and compared with the results from the end of initial driving and restrike tests. The results showed that the resistances, which are evaluated using the combined load-settlement curve, may overcome the underestimation of the resistance because of the insufficient driven energy. In addition, the resistance resulted from the combined load-settlement curve may be more similar to that from the static load test because the suggested load transfer curve is closer to the behavior of the embedded pile compared to the results of end of initial driving and restrike tests. Therefore, this study demonstrates that the combined load-settlement curve may be effectively used for the evaluation of the bearing capacity of embedded piles.
Concrete filled steel tube(CFT) has outstanding deformation capacity and strength in comparison with reinforced concrete or steel tube. CFT drilled shaft, which is developed large shear force due to seismic load and soil liquefaction, is designed as large diameter. However, shear design equations of the current standards do not consider bond stress of CFT and it results in extremely conservative design. Currently, previous studies for improving shear equations scarcely exist and are impossible applied to large CFT drilled shafts since these studies focus on only small scale experimental research. In this study, eventually to propose improving shear equation of large diameter CFT, it is preliminary research to compare and investigate the previous studies and current standards.
The vibration of steam turbine is caused by Mass unbalance, Shaft misalignment, Oil whip and rubbing etc. But in turbine which is normally operated and maintained, the Mass unbalance component possesses the greatest portion. Our power plant has two steam turbines in capacity of 200 MW and 135 MW respectively and each turbine is supported by 6 journal bearings. However, we had many difficulties because the vibration amplitude of #3 and #4 Bearings was high during the start-up and operation mode change of steam turbine. But, with this study, we completely solved the vibration problem caused by the mass unbalance of #1 steam turbine. Until a recent date, #3 and #4 bearings which support high pressure turbine for #1 steam turbine had shown about $135{\mu}m$ in vibration amplitude (sometimes it increased to $221{\mu}m$ maximum. alarm: 6 mils, trip: 9 mils) at base load. After applying the study, they decreased to about $45{\mu}m$ maximum. It is a result from that we did not change the setting value of bearing alignment and only changed the assembly position of internal parts in Synchro clutch coupling rachet wheel which links between high pressure turbine and low pressure turbine, and increased the internal gap and machining of the Pawl cage surface. In the operation of steam turbine, if the vibration value increases by 1X, we should reduce the vibration of bearing by weight balancing. However, unless the vibration of bearing is declined by the balancing, we will have to disassemble and check the component and find the cause. In this study, we researched the way to lower mass unbalance that is 1X vibration component which has the greatest portion of vibration generated by steam turbine and we got good result by applying the findings of this study.

Electric Vehicle (EV) can be categorized by the driving method into in-wheel and in-line types. In-wheel type EV does not have transmission shaft, differential gear and other parts that are used in conventional cars, which simplifies and lightens the structure resulting in higher efficiency. In this paper, design method for in-wheel motor for automobiles using Parameter Map is proposed, and motor with continuous power of 5 kW is designed, built and its performance is verified. To decide the capacity of the in-wheel motor that meets the automobile's requirement, Vehicle Dynamic Simulation considering the total mass of vehicle, gear efficiency, effective radius of tire, slope ratio and others is performed. Through this step, the motor's capacity is decided and initial design to determine the motor shape and size is performed. Next, the motor parameters that meet the requirement is determined using parametric design that uses parametric map. After the motor parameters are decided using parametric map, optimal design to improve THD of back EMF, cogging torque, torque ripple and other factors is performed. The final design was built, and performance analysis and verification of the proposed method is conducted by performing load test.

In the present work, a number of advanced three-dimensional (3D) parametric finite element numerical analyses have been conducted to study the behaviour of a single pile in consolidating ground from coupled consolidation analyses. A single pile with typical minimum and maximum ranges of fill height and clay stiffness has been modelled. The computed results demonstrate that the higher the height of the fill above the clay surface and the smaller the stiffness of the clay, the higher the dragloads and the negative skin friction-induced pile settlements. It has been found that the development of dragloads and pile settlement is more governed by the stiffness of the clay rather than the height of the fill. Positive shaft resistance is mobilised only after the average degree of consolidation is larger than 50%. Although the pile is installed when the degree of consolidation is 50% or more, relatively large negative skin friction can nevertheless develop on the pile. On the other hand, when a load is applied on the pile experiencing an increase in the negative skin friction with time during consolidation, the pile undergoes a large increase in the final settlement of up to 95% compared to that of a pile without axial load on the pile head. The allowable pile capacity when there is negative skin friction on the pile is reduced by about 4-11% compared to a pile without negative skin friction.
