Conventional variable-speed Induction motor drives with inverters are subject to detrimental effect of zero-sequence voltages, such a shaft voltage and bearing current. This paper presents a way of the suppression of the zero-sequence components in multilevel H-bridge inverters. First examined Is the inherent zero-sequence characteristic of the conventional subharmonic PW method. Then it is shown that the zero-sequence voltage can be eliminated with proper -selection of switching states with space vector modulation. Although this method alone restricts the linear modulation range of control, a combination of the proposed method and the minimum switching method appears to be effective in suppressing the zero-sequence voltage to minimum level while maintaining the linear control range.

Induction motors are used widely in driving load of a fluid, such as a pump or a fan in the industry. Induction motor has been generated the voltage drop by the occurrence of a high current during startup. In addition, high start-up current can act as a mechanical stress on the shaft of the motor. So there is need a way to reduce the starting current. Soft start method is one of the many ways to reduce the starting current. This method uses silicon-controlled rectifiers(SCRs) for varying value of the voltage applied to the motor. There is a case for fixing or changing the thyristor firing angle to adjust the magnitude of the voltage. Starting power factor of induction motor is very low compared to the normal operation. Soft starting with the firing angle fixed needs to be considered a low power factor at startup. In this study, we compared the direct start characteristics and soft start characteristics considering the low power factor at the time of start-up. It was possible to confirm that the starting current and the voltage drop is present differently according to the firing angle.

This paper presents the result of a study on the starter control for a turbo generator. Because a starter in gear box type turbo-generator system is composed of gearbox and brush DC motor, it should be replaced with High Speed Generator(HSG)) in HSG type Turbo-generator. There-ore, it is necessary to design a new starting algorithm and starter. In gearbox type system, brush DC motor is rotated to the designed speed using low voltage-high current battery power. After brush DC motor speed is increased to several times by gearbox, gas turbine engine can be rotated to designed starting speed. If we implement a starter with High Speed Generator(HSG), it is necessary to drive high-speed generator to high-speed motor. High-speed generator with permanent magnet on rotor has a low leakage inductance fur driving high-speed rotation, and it is necessary high DC link voltage for inverter when High-speed generator is driven to high speed. This paper presents result of development of the boost converter for converting high voltage DC from low battery voltage and design of the inverter for controlling a high frequency current to be injected to motor winding. Also, we show performance of the designed starter by driving the turbo generator.

This article deals with the sensor-less control of a DC Motor via a SEPIC Converter-Full Bridge combination powered through solar panels. We simultaneously regulate, both, the output voltage of the SEPIC-converter to a value larger than the solar panel output voltage, and the shaft angular velocity, in any of the turning senses, so that it tracks a pre-specified constant reference. The main result of our proposed control scheme is an efficient linear controller obtained via Lyapunov. This controller is based on measurements of the converter currents and voltages, and the DC motor armature current. The control law is derived using an exact stabilization error dynamics model, from which a static linear passive feedback control law is derived. All values of the constant references are parameterized in terms of the equilibrium point of the multivariable system: the SEPIC converter desired output voltage, the solar panel output voltage at its Maximun Power Point (MPP), and the DC motor desired constant angular velocity. The switched control realization of the designed average continuous feedback control law is accomplished by means of a, discrete-valued, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). Experimental results are presented demonstrating the viability of our proposal.
This paper presents a simple AC-DC power conditioner for a squirell-cage induction generator(IG) operating under variable shaft speeds. The necessary reactive power for the IG system is supplied by means of a capacitor bank and a voltage-source PWM converter. Using a capacitor bank to transfer the reactive power to the IG under the rated speed and no-load conditions starts the IG operation and reduces the PWM power converter size. A simple control compensating for changes in the electrical loads as well as the variation in speed was developed to regulate the voltages of the IG system by controlling the rotor flux through its reactive and active currents control implementation. This proposed power conditioning scheme can be used efficiently as a wind power generation system where the output voltage of the IG is maintained constant voltage despite the variable frequency and the DC bus voltage of the PWM converter can be used for either DC applications such as battery charging or AC power applications with 60/50 Hz by connecting a stand alone inverter. The experimental and simulated operating performance results of a 5 kW IG scheme at various speeds and leads are presented.
This paper deal with problems of leakage current, shaft voltage, bearing current, and EMI, in valiable-speed AC drives. The originating mechanism is illustrated with a high-frequency equivalent circuit. Reduction methods are classified in to six categories based on the equivalent circuit. Some experimental results show that a common-mode transformer (CMT) and a common-noise canceler (ACC) can solve the problems, which have been proposed the authors.

In this paper, a nonlinear robust control approach is applied to design a controller for the Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM). A robust control dynamic model of STATCOM in a one-machine, infinite-bus system is established with consideration of the torque disturbance acting on the rotating shaft of the generator set and the disturbance to the output voltage of STATCOM. A novel recursive approach is utilized to construct the energy storage function of the system such that the solution to the disturbance attenuation control problem is acquired, which avoids the difficulty involved in solving the Hamilton-Jacobi-Issacs (HJI) inequality. Sequentially, the nonlinear disturbance attenuation control strategy of STATCOM is obtained. Simulation results demonstrate that STATCOM with the proposed controller can more effectively improve the voltage stability, damp the oscillation, and enhance the transient stability of power systems compared to the conventional PI+PSS controller.
The position information of the rotor are required while the SRG(Switched Reluctance Generator) is drived. The position information is generally provided by shaft encoder or resolver. But it is weak in the dusty, high temperator and EMI environment. Therefore, the sensor is able to required to eliminated from the SRG. In this paper, a estimation algorithm for the rotor position of the SRG is introducted and a constant DC-link voltage is controled by PID controller. The estimation algorithm is implemened by the adaptive sliding observer and that it is able to estimate the rotor position well is proved by the simulation.

By the localization of electro-chemical dissolution region, we succeeded in a few micrometer size hole drilling on stainless steel with the radial machining gap of about 1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Tens of nanosecond duration voltage pulses were applied between WC micro-shaft and stainless steel in the 0.1 M $H_2SO_4$ solution. Pt balance electrode was used to drill the high aspect ratio micro-hole without generation of Cr oxide layer on the machined surface. The effects of applied voltage, pulse duration, and pulse period on localization distance were investigated according to machining time. We suggested the taper reduction technique especially brought up on blind-hole machining. High quality micro-holes with 8 ${\mu}m$ diameter with 20 ${\mu}m$ depth and 12 ${\mu}m$ diameter with 100 ${\mu}m$ depth were drilled on 304 stainless steel foil. The various hole shapes were also produced including stepped holes and taper free holes.
We investigated the thermal characteristics of rotating anode X-ray tube to develop it for digital radiography by using computer simulation. The target which is the area of the anode struck by electrons is the most important component to get a long life of X-ray tube. So we analyze the thermal characteristics of the target and rotor assembly according to their emissivity by using ANSYS transient thermal simulation and then compare with the measured data of the target temperature operating in aging process of X-ray tube. Especially, keeping the lead coated layer as the role of metal lubricant on ball bearing enables to prevent the noise in rotating anode. The simulation result showed that its temperature was under the melting point of the lead in X-ray tube for digital radiography with 1.2 mm large focal spot 0.6 mm small focal spot and 150 kV tube voltage. We also investigated the relationship between the diameter of the anode shaft and the temperature of the anode and rotor assembly. It has been confirmed that the smaller anode shaft could be good for the rotor thermal characteristics.
