Most solar photovoltaic (PV) modules frequently get shadowed, completely or partially, resulting in a reduction of PV generation. This paper presents and compares the results from simulations and experimental measurements of the power output from a single PV module under various shading conditions. The study was carried out with a 90 W PV module and a 250 W PV module. The shaded area was increased from 0 to 100% for both variable and constant irradiances to analyze the effect of fluctuations in the solar irradiance certain shading conditions. The effect of shading for irradiance levels from 100 to $900W/m^2$ was investigated. Results showed that for every $100W/m^2$ decrease in the solar irradiance level, the power output decreased by 9, 0.7 and 1.5 W at 0, 25 and 50% shading, respectively. For solar irradiance levels higher than $500W/m^2$, the temperature increased by 1.6, 2.7 and $1.1^{\circ}C$ at 0, 25 and 50% shading, respectively, for every $100W/m^2$ increase in the irradiance.

In order to elucidate growth characteristics, physiological responses and leaf color changes of Physocarpus opulifolius 'Diabolo' and Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens'. These experiments were investigated under various shading levels. Growth of P.opulifolius 'Diabolo' was better at 30% shading level but physiological activities were double at strong light condition. Dark purple color was observed at 85% shading level and color was dim down when shading level decreased. Color was deep purple(RHS 202A) at 85% shading and green(RHS 139A) at 0%, These results imply that ornamental value was increased when shading level increased for P. opulifolius 'Diabolo'. Growth and highest physiological activity of O. planiscapus 'Nigrescens' were observed at 0% shading level and dark red color(RHS 202A) was also observed at 0% shading level. These results imply that ornamental value was increased when shading level decreased for O. planiscapus 'Nigrescens'.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of greenhouse cooling by a geothermal heat pump system on greenhouse temperature and growth of vegetable transplants in summer season. Greenhouse air temperature in day time was $3-4^{\circ}C$ lower in fog plus shading system than in shading, while in night time that was $5-7^{\circ}C$ lower in geothermal heat pump (GHP) plus shading system compared to shading or fogplus shading. system. Plant height of cucumber, tomato and hot pepper transplants was shortened in GHP plus shading compared to shading or fog plus shading system. And Leaf area and dry weight were slightly decreased in GHP plus shading compared to the other systems. Therefore, healthy transplant index on cucumber, tomato and hot pepper was higher in GHP plusshading than in shading or fogplusshading system.
The study was conducted to find out the ways of increasing fresh leaf yield under conditions of the optimum shading net treatment and planting densities of Aster glehni. Although the most effective shading net treatment to acclimatize the plant was 75% shading in 1993, as growing years were prolonged, effects of shading net treatment was not recognized. Ca contents in 75% shading net treatment was much higher than other shading net treatments. Shading effect tend to promote their growth and fresh leaf yield in 1993 even though 75% shading net treatment did not increase fresh leaf yield in 1994 and 1995. Planting density. $30\times20cm$. showed the effectiveness fresh leaf yield for 1994 and 1995 except for 1993.
To investigate the effect of light pretreatment on photosynthetic characteristics of leaf blade of rice, 2 varieties of japonica type and 2 varieties of tongil type were grown under 30% or 70% shading conditions from tillering stage to heading stage. Shading treatment of 70% at the heading stage produced low dry matter, and higher LAR and SLA compared with other combination of shading treatment and growing stage did. Photosynthetic activity was lower in order of 0%, 30% and 70% shading treatment under the low light intensity(5Klux) but significantly high in 30% shading treatment under the high light intensity (33Klux) at tillering stage. Photosynthetic activity under low(5Klux) and high(33Kluk) light intensity were higher in order of 70%, 30% and 0% shading treatment at heading stage. Respiration /photosynthesis ratio was lower in shading treatment than in control. CGR, RGR and NAR decreased in shading treatment. Shading treatment reduced the number of ripened grain per panicle and decreased the harvesting index.

This study was carried out to analyze effects of soil, water level and shading on growth of sweet flag(Acorus calamus var. angustatus). Three types of soil were used, which included sandy, silty loam and paddy loam soil. Three levels of shading were applied in the experiment: no shading, 55% shading and 75% shading. The water levels were also adjusted to three levels in the experiment. The results are summarized as follows; 1. The cultivation of sweet flag in sandy soil with low water level resulted in decreased fresh weight compared to that at planting. This result indicates that the water level should be maintained higher than the soil surface for sweet flag growth in sandy soil. 2. 5 out of 72 sweet flags died in paddy loam soil. Water saturation of soil easily reduced paddy loam soil, and root growth of sweet flags in reduced soil condition were restricted, resulting in the dead plants. 3. The growth of sweet flag in paddy loam soil was worse than those in silty loam, indicating that reduced soil conditions in paddy loam is harmful to root growth. In planting sweet flags in paddy loam, improved soil aeration in paddy loam soil is necessary for good growth of sweet flag. 4. The maintaining of high water levels is better than that of low water levels in sweet flag cultivation. During winter, soil near the water surface froze and sweet flags in frozen soil were stressed physiologically. Maintaining high water levels prevents soil from being frozen which is good for the growth of sweet flags. 5. There was not significant difference in the growth of the sweet flag between non-shading and 55% shading. It thus appears that sweet flags can grow soundly under shading rate lower than 55%.

This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of shading degrees (0:full sunlight, 25, 50 and 75%) on the crop growth rate (CGR), net assimilation rate (NAR) and photosynthetic activity of grasses for obtaining the basic data on the development, management and utilization of pasture in the forest. For the test, different artificial shading houses were established and pasture species used in this study were orchardgrass, timothy, perennial ryegrass and ladino clover. The experiment was performed at Livestock Experiment Station, Suwon, in 1984-'85. The results obtained are summarized as follows. 1. The highest CGR was obtained at 0% (full sunlight) and 25% of shading, followed by 50 and 75% of shading degrees, in that order. CGR of orchardgrass and perennial ryegrass were higher than those of timothy and ladino clover. 2. NAR was significantly decreased as the shading degrees increased. The highest NAR was observed at perennial ryegrass plot. 3. The photosynthetic activity during summer season was the highest at 25% of shading, followed by 50, 0 and 75% of shading degrees. While, the photosynthetic activity during fall season was the highest at 25% of shading, followed by 50, 0 and 75% of shading degrees, in that order. Those of orchardgrass and perennial ryegrass were remarkably higher than that of timothy. 4. A significant positive correlation was obtained in the relationship between CGR and NAR of main grasses, regardless of pasture species and investigated date.

This study was carried out to investigate the relationships and the variations of agronomic characteristics in the shoot and root part of grasses for the basic data of the development, the management and the utilization of pasture in the forest. This study was conducted with 0% (full sunlight), 25%, 50% and 75% of shading degrees after orchardgrass, timothy, perennial ryegrass, ladino clover and orchardgrass dominated mixture were planted on Aug. 25 in 1984. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Dry matter yield in 25% of shading was increased 3-1 7% compared with 0% (full sunlight), while 50 and 75% of shading were decreased 28-35% and 44-60%, respectively. Dry matter yield of timothy, perennial ryegrass and ladino clover were decreased 10, 8 and 33%, respectively, compared with orchardgrass, but there was little difference between orchard grass and mixture. 2. Root distribution by different shading degrees was the maximum at 25%, followed by 0, 50 and 75% of shading degrees. Root distribution among different species was the maximum at orchardgrass, followed by perennial ryegrass and timothy. Especially, root distribution of timothy was very little compared with different species. And significantly positive correlation was observed in the relationship between root weight and dry matter yield (r=0.8 102**). 3. The physiological activity of root by different shading degrees was declined by more shading. 4. The length and the percentage of blade by different shading degrees was an increase tendency by more shading. The length and the percentage of blade among different species was followed by timothy, perennial ryegrass and orchardgrass, in that order. And the correlation between the percentage of blade and dry matter yield was significantly negative.

Objective: The oxidative stress status and changes of chicken ovary tissue after shading were studied, to determine the mechanism of the effect of shading on follicular development. Methods: Twenty healthy laying hens (40 weeks old) with uniform body weight and the same laying rate were randomly divided into two groups (the shading group and normal light group). In the shading group, the cage was covered to reduce the light intensity inside the cage to 0 without affecting ventilation or food intake. The normal lighting group received no additional treatment. After 7 days of shading, oxidative stress related indicators and gene expression were detected. Results: Analysis of paraffin and ultrathin sections showed that apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells (GCs) increased significantly after light shading. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay results revealed that the levels of total antioxidant capacity, malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione, catalase (CAT), and other substances in the sera, livers, ovaries, and follicular GCs of laying hens increased significantly after shading for 7 days; and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in the livers of laying hens also increased significantly. ROS in the serum, ovarian and GCs also increased. After shading for 7 days, the levels of 8-hydroxy-2 deoxyguanosine in the sera and ovarian tissues of laying hens increased significantly. Cell counting kit-8 detection showed that the proliferation activity of GCs in layer follicles decreased after shading for 7 days; the expression level of the anti-apoptotic gene B-cell lymphoma-2 in ovarian tissue and follicular GCs was significantly reduced, and the expression levels of pro-apoptotic caspase 3 (casp3), and SOD, glutathione peroxidase 2 (GPX2), and CAT were all significantly increased. Conclusion: Oxidative stress induced by shading light has a serious inhibitory effect on follicular development during reproduction in laying hens.

Background: High temperature damage in ginseng is influenced by shading materials related not only to temperature, but also to light intensity and light quality. To address, this green-colored khaki shading sheet is widely used. As they are recently, developed, there is limited research information about their attributes and use. Methods and Results: The four-layered shading net (FLSN), blue-colored shading sheet (BCSS), aluminum-coated shading board (ACSB), and green-colored shading sheet (GCSS) were installed in the wooden A type of sun-block facilities. Two layered black, shading net was additionally used to cover the facilities since the beginning of June. The average temperature at the facility where different shades were tested was in the order of BCSS ($28.9^{\circ}C$) > FLSN ($27.7^{\circ}C$) > GCSS ($27.6^{\circ}C$) > ACSB ($27.1^{\circ}C$). However, high temperature injury rates were in order: FLSN > ACSB > GCSS > BCSS. Root weight vaired and was in the order: ACSB > GCSS > BCSS > FLSN. Conclusions: High temperature damage is possible not only because of temperature increase, but also due to various environmental light factors. Ginseng high temperature injury was minimal when BCSS or GCSS were used by difference of light quality. Although the root weight was higher in ACSB, it could be vulnerable to high temperature damage. Therefore, we propose using GCSS for ginseng shading.
