  • Objectives : Contents on causes of male infertility, reproductive health improvement, sexual tips were studied in classical texts of Korean Medicine, followed by representative formulas for male infertility treatment. Methods : Related texts from the Qiusimen chapters of the Yixuerumen, Yixuexinwu, Donguibogam, Nukejinglun, Jiaozhufurenliangfang, Jiyingandmu were collected, and their medical meaning discussed. Results : As immoderate libido and excessive mental consumption leads to sexual dysfunction causing male infertility, 'moderating sexual desire and accumulating Jing' should be the principle for improving reproductive health. Also, sufficient foreplay is recommended. In terms of formula, the Wuziyanzongwan with sufficient therapeutic evidence in both classical texts and contemporary Korean Medicine can be applied in cases of male infertility. Conclusions : Excessive sensual stimulation and immoderate sexual desire consumes the mind and results in decline in male reproductive health. While moderating sexual desire and accumulating Jing through controlling desire, not overworking, moderating anger, drinking in moderation, balanced eating should be the principle for improving reproductive health, having sexual intercourse 2~3 times per week rather than long-term abstinence is recommended. To improve the success rate in pregnancy, sufficient foreplay and time should be done and taken for intercourse. Wuziyanzongwan should be taken for at least three months or longer.

Results: After SCI, patients maintained low levels of sexual adjustment, and a main obstacle of sexual rehabilitation was decreased erectile function (65.2%). The erectile function of participants with normal, decreased or no erectile function were 13.0%, 62.6% and 24.4%, respectively. 8.1% of the participants reported no problem with ejaculation. Patients with incomplete SCI had better preserved erectile function than those with complete SCI (t=-4.627, p<.001). Patients with upper motor neuron injury had better preserved erectile function than those with lower motor neuron injury (t=2.446, p =.016). Sexual adjustment was relevant to age, job, degree of injury, post-injury period, sexual desire, intercourse experience, erection therapy, erectile function, and sexual health. Sexual adjustment was a factor of sexual health with a power of 24.2%. Conclusion: The main obstacle of sexual rehabilitation for males with SCI decreased erectile function. In economic status, high or middle was significantly higher in the subjective sexual experience and sexual function than the low(p<.05). In subjective sexual experience, high was higher in intercourse frequency than the low, and penile length and type were important(p<.05). preference of glans> penis was significantly higher in subjective sexual experience than preference of glans $${\frac{._-}{.}}$$ penis, and importance of penile girth and size(p<.05). In sexual function, normal function was lower in intercourse frequency than dysfunction, and penile length was not considered significant(p<.05).
