The depth of sewers in residential complexes was determined to prevent the separated sewers from misconnection between storm sewer and sanitary sewer, and from the submersion of the basement by minimizing the phenomenon of backwater when it rains. In residential complexes, main causes of the submersion were the misconnection of sewers, rising of the backwater level at outfall in sewer system, poor maintenance of sewers, and lacking in their cross section. Minimum depth of sewers should be over 1.2~1.5m. According to the economic analysis, the depth of 1.5m~3.0m was appropriate for minimizing the submersion of basements and for making the disposal of domestic wastewater more easily.
In the era of climate change, the feasibility of a 'multi-functional storage facility' was evaluated in terms of various key performance indices such as flooding prevention effects, urban pollution reduction effects, and rainwater harvesting effects. As a result, the Korea Ministry of Environment introduced a new concept of 'multi-functional storage facility' for sewer flooding prevention and urban non-point pollution reduction. Prior to introducing these infrastructure (a large underground storage facility), the more details were needed to be examined carefully in all of technical aspects of construction and management. It was also well known that the validity of installation of 'multi-functional storage facility' was sometimes weakened because of a low B/C ratio.
Although peak loading coefficient is one of critical design factors for sewer works, its detailed affecting factors were not analyzed because of limited data availability. This study analyzed the affecting factors on peak loading coefficient with plenty data obtained from several newly constructed sewer works. Simple and multiple regression analysis methods were adopted to analyze the relationships of each variable with or without data filtering. Drainage population, drainage area, population density, and daily sewage flow per person showed very weak relationships under diverse characteristics of cities. However, daily sewage flow per person showed stronger relationships with peak loading when daily sewage flow per person was splitted into two ranges. Population density (i.e., drainage population divided by drainage area) and daily sewage flow per person considerably were related with peak loading coefficient when daily sewage flow per person is less than about 400 Lpcd.

In order to examine the tailorability of advanced sewage treatment of a separated sewer pipe, we observed the quality of leaked water in a reactor. A2C affiliation and MBR affiliation decreased by over 78% in cases of BOD, COD, and SS. SBR affiliation decreased by 79.1% in a case of T-N. Overall, the efficiency of T-N on the above affiliations was low. SS had the high efficiency in MBR affiliation. In the end, examination of water quality improvement showed that the quality was improved from 20% to 90%; hence, it is expected that this treatment can protect the water resources of the Hongcheon River and makes it easier to use the water of the river.

The trenchless entire repair technology (TERT) have many different names depending on the companies, and they have the same or similar methods as well as materials. In addition, there was quiet difficulty in application of field working and even confuse to classify for new TERT, while application criteria of TERT is not listed systematically. This study proposed standardization and method for TERT affecting by pipe condition, working materials, working method, specification/quantity per unit according to field condition, strange affairs and others. Determination criteria of defective sewer pipe has proposed to effective method which modify a criteria between Ministry of Environment and Seoul Metropolitan City. A Cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) is suitable for TERT, and the design criteria for the entire broken pipe are proposed when the pipe itself deforms more than 10%. A check lists are specimen preparing, hardening site made by clamped mold, numbers, flexural and tensile property, water leak and desquamation test, and have to use material property of minimum CIPP value depend on ISO 11296-4, ISO 11297-4, KS M3550-7 and KS M3550-9.

Sewer deterioration models can offer important information on prediction of future condition of the asset to decision makers in their implementing sewer pipe networks management program. In this study, Markov chain model was used to estimate sewer deterioration trend based on the historical structural condition assessment data obtained by CCTV inspection. The data used in this study were limited to Hume pipe with diameter of 450 mm and 600 mm in three sub-catchment areas in city A, which were collected by CCTV inspection projects performed in 1998-1999 and 2010-2011. As a result, it was found that sewers in sub-catchment area EM have deteriorated faster than those in other two sub-catchments. Various main defects were to generate in 29% of 450 mm sewers and 38% of 600 mm in 35 years after the installation, while serious failure in 62% of 450 mm sewers and 74% of 600 mm in 100 years after the installation in sub-catchment area EM. In sub-catchment area SN, main defects were to generate in 26% of 450 mm sewers and 35% of 600 mm in 35 years after the installation, while in sub-catchment area HK main defects were to generate in 27% of 450 mm sewers and 37% of 600 mm in 35 years after the installation. Larger sewer pipes of 600 mm were found to deteriorate faster than smaller sewer pipes of 450 mm by about 12 years. Assuming that the percentage of main defects generation could be set as 40% to estimate the life expectancy of the sewers, it was estimated as 60 years in sub-catchment area SN, 42 years in sub-catchment area EM, 59 years in sub-catchment area HK for 450 mm sewer pipes, respectively. For 600 mm sewer pipes, on the other hand, it was estimated as 43 years, 34 years, 39 years in sub-catchment areas SN, EM, and HK, respectively.

Combined sewer overflows during rainfall events contain sewer sediments and surface pollutants. This can cause significant chemical, physical and biological problems to receiving watershed. However, there are no method that can commonly apply to decide criteria for controlling the pollutant load. In this study, it sets up the reduction goals of combined sewer overflow through long-term simulation using the rainfall-runoff model. From a review of domestic and foreign management standard of combined sewer overflow for this, it makes decision that 60% (phase 1), 85% (phase 2) of total pollutant load and frequency per year for reduction goals is more proper. Also, the result of analyzing long-term simulation (minimum 10 years) applied to research basin indicates that reduction goals of BOD pollutant load are 1,123 kg (phase 1) and 2,374 kg (phase 2), and overflow volumes for research objective achievement are $11,685m^3$ (phase 1) and $24,701m^3$ (phase 2).

Governmental accounting system has changed from budgetary accounting on the basis of cash and bookkeeping by single entry to financial accounting on the basis of accrual and bookkeeping by double entry. In the context of this transition, infrastructure becomes considered an asset in accounting, and resulting accounting methods also take different approaches from conventional budgetary accounting. Financial accounting system defines expenditures into two categories, i.e. capital expenditure(CAPEX) and operational expenditure(OPEX), and stipulates that the expenditure shall be divided into those two categories before accounting. The construction and expansion of infrastructure must be considered a CAPEX because it means a sort of asset acquisition, but with regard to applications in practical accounting, it is actually challenging to judge whether any expenditure associated with maintenance works (including repair and service) during use of infrastructure acquired shall be considered CAPEX or OPEX. This paper suggested an asset management based accounting method for sewer maintenance expenditure. And it applied the method to actual accounting cases and analyzed them in comparison with conventional financial information. As a case study result, Sewer asset value of S city increased approximately 700 hundred won because sewer maintenance expenditure are classified between OPEX and CAPEX according to the proposed accounting method. It is expected that the proposed accounting method will contribute significantly to providing any proper sewer asset value information.

Urban runoff models have been continuously developing with concerns for urban flood. Recently, models that be able to quantitatively analyze surface inundation caused by overflowed water from storm sewer were also developed by coupling 1-dimensional sewer model and 2-dimensional surface flow model. However, only overflowed water from storm sewer can be analyzed by the models have been developed until now. They are limited to be not able to analyze surface inundation caused by surface runoff that could not flow into the storm sewer. In order to overcome the limitation, basin-overlap method was devised adding a dummy 1-dimensional sewer layer to the model, so it can consider the efficiency of inflow to the storm sewer system. XP-SWMM 2011 is applied for urban runoff model and the flood event occurred on July 27, 2011 in basin-shaped Sadangcheon watershed is chosen for study inundation event. According to simulation results basin-overlap method reappear the observed inundation event more precisely than traditional method. This results suggest that drainage system has to be improved for reducing inundation caused by surface runoff and would be used as considerations for planning an urban basin design magnitude.
In urban areas, runoff flow is drained through sewer networks as well as surface areas. Therefore, it is very important to consider sewer networks as a component of hydrological drainage processes when conducting urban inundation modelling. However, most researchers who have implemented urban inundation/flood modelling, instinctively simplified the sewer networks without the appropriate criteria. In this research, a 1D-2D fully coupled urban inundation model is applied to estimate the influence of sewer network simplification on urban inundation modelling based on the dendritic network classification. The one-dimensional (1D) sewerage system analysis model, which was introduced by Lee et al. (2017), is used to simulate inlet and overflow phenomena by interacting with surface flow. Two-dimensional (2D) unstructured meshes are also applied to simulate surface flow and are combined with the 1D sewerage analysis model. Sewer network pipes are simplified based on the dendritic network classification method, namely the second and third order, and all cases of pipes are conducted as a control group. Each classified network case, including a control group, is evaluated through their application to the 27 July 2011 extreme rainfall event, which caused severe inundation damages in the Sadang area in Seoul, South Korea. All cases are compared together regarding inundation area, inflow discharge and overflow discharge. Finally, relevant criterion for the simplification method is recommended.
