Personalized Interstitial Content Service for Second TV (Second TV를 위한 맞춤형 광고 서비스)

  • The 'Anytime, Anywhere' services have been the biggest topic in the recent digital broadcasting research area. The related applications for the Anytime and Anywhere Services are as follows: the personalized broadcasting based on the PVR (Personal Video Recorder) for the Anytime Services, and the DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), the mobile devices supporting the wireless network and the Second TV and so on for the anywhere services. The personalized broadcasting has been researched on the one of the killer applications in the various broadcasting environment - the ground wave broadcasting, the satellite broadcasting, IPTV and CATV broadcasting suchlike. The applied contents of the personalized broadcasting have advanced from the main contents for the broadcasting to the interstitial contents like advertisements and coupons, the personalized interstitial broadcasting needs to develop the technology about the generation, storing and management of the interstitial metadata. but, the personalized broadcasting has the limitation that the TV environment is somewhat difficult to support the personalized broadcasting individually, because all family usually share the main TV at home. The Second TV is possible to solve the environmental limitation. This paper designs and develops the static set top box at home, the Second TV and their multimedia streaming techniques for the personalized broadcasting of the contents including the interstitial contents.

Efficient Real-time Multimedia Streaming System Using Partial Transport Stream for IPTV Services

  • IPTV Content delivery systems over wired networks confront scalability problems due to their high network bandwidth requirement for real-time services. Especially, VoD service provides Trick Mode features such as pause, fast forward and similar operations. However, Trick Mode services are delivered by the method of unicast only for controlling of the stream. With a point of views, this paper propose a new real-time multimedia streaming architecture over IP Networks, which tries to achieve bandwidth efficiency and supporting for mass clients better than traditional unicast services. The proposed methods divide the Transport Stream into a series of segments. After that, this divided partial Transport Stream makes multicast streaming periodically. Meanwhile Set-top Box of a client makes a rearrangement orderly by using Presentation Time Stamp field from the served Transport Stream packets. While the current Transport Stream segment is playing, it should be guaranteed that the next segment is downloaded on time. Consequently, the original video content can be played out continuously. The detail introduction of a new real-time multimedia streaming system with analysis and simulation follows as below.

  • Unlike traditional analog broadcasting, digital broadcasting provides users with various additional services that we have never seen before. To receive these kind of services. data broadcasting includes not only audio, video signal, but also additional data associated with the program. In this paper, we present the efficient parsing and caching mechianism for data carousel in digital broadcasting set-top box. In order to speed up the process of parsing, we use the Message Pool that stores elementary_pid syntax of DSM-CC message packets.

  • 최근 급속하게 발전하고 있는 컴퓨터, 인터넷 분야의 디지털 기술과 함께 방송 환경도 기존의 아날로그 방식에서 디지털 방식으로 바뀌어 가고 있다. 최근 이러한 디지털 방송 환경의 도입으로 A/V 프로그램의 고화질 서비스 제공과 더불어 다양한 멀티미디어 콘텐츠를 방송망을 통해 전송할 수 있는 데이터방송 기술에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 현재 실시간 운영체제(Real Time O/S)를 이용한 독립형 데이터방송 셋톱박스들의 성능은 Java 나 XML을 기반으로 저작된 콘텐츠들을 처리할 수 있으나 MPEG-4와 같은 객체 기반의 멀티미디어 콘텐츠를 처리하기에는 연산 능력의 한계를 가지고 있다. 그러나 앞으로 데이터방송 서비스의 발전 방향은 시청자가 직접 방송 내용에 대해 활발하게 상호 작용을 할 수 있는 대화형 방송 서비스로 발전할 것이다. 이러한 대화형 방송에서 사용되는 콘텐츠는 복잡하고 계산량이 많이 요구되며 이를 처리하기 위해서 셋톱박스는 높은 연산량을 가진 다양한 멀티미디어 기능을 처리할 수 있어야 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 디지털 지상파 데이터방송시 ATSC-DASE 기반의 콘텐츠와 MPEG-4 콘텐츠를 수신하고 처리할 수 있는 PC 기반의 고성능 셋톱박스에 대한 설계 방안을 제안한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 CATV 셋톱박스를 통해 공통경보프로토콜 기반의 재난정보를 송출하는 프로토콜을 구현하고 실험한 내용을 기술한다. 현재, 지상파 방송사, 종합편성 방송사 및 보도전문 방송사는 법적으로 재난방송 의무를 가지고 있다. 이들 방송사는 주기적인 폴링방식을 이용하여 통합재난관리시스템으로부터 재난정보를 수신하고 있다. 재난정보 전달은 피해의 최소화, 대응의 신속화를 보장하기 위해 즉시적인 전달(Instantaneous Delivery)'이 무엇보다 중요하다. 따라서, 제안하는 재난정보송출 방식은 재난정보표현을 위한 표준방식인 공통경보프로토콜을 이용하여, 재난정보 발생 시 방송사에게 자동으로 통보될 수 있는 프로토콜을 구현하여 재난정보전달의 신속성을 보장할 수 있다.

Extending Network Domain for IEEE1394

  • Wireless 1394 over IEEE802.15.3 must allow a data reserved for delivery over a wired 1394 network to be delivered over an IEEE802.15.3 wireless network through bridging IEEE 1394 to IEEE802.15.3. Isochronous transfers on the 1394 bus guarantee timely delivery of data. Specifically, isochronous transfers are scheduled by the bus so that they occur once every $125\;{\mu}s$ and require clock time synchronization to complete the real-time data transfer. IEEE1394.1 and Protocol Adaptation Layer for IEEE1394 over IEEE802.15.3 specify clock time synchronization for a wired 1394 bus network to a wired 1394 bus network and wireless 1394 nodes, which are IEEE802.15.3 nodes handling 1394 applications, over IEEE802.15.3. Thus, the clock time synchronizations are just defined within a homogeneous network environment like IEEE1394 or IEEE802.15.3 until now. This paper proposes new clock time synchronization method for wireless 1394 heterogeneous networks between 1394 and 802.15.3. If new method is adopted for various wireless 1394 products, consumer electronics devices such as DTV and Set-top Box or PC devices on a 1394 bus network can transmit real time data to the AV devices on the other 1394 bus in a different place via IEEE 802.15.3.

  • Embedded system is widely used in various applications from simple monitor to a set-top box with CPU, memory and hard disk drives. Specially, embedded OS is ported in moveable or small machinery since it ordinarily transmits multimedia data. In this paper, we propose Null copy scheme on the embedded linux system for multimedia service, which can reduce memory copy overhead from user address space to kernel one, and vice versa. Since embedded system for networked multimedia service has low level computing power as well as memory, the Null copy scheme can provide more improved QoS. Our image transmission experiment results on embedded linux target board(CPU utilization an Deadline miss rates) installed a web camera have shown that the proposed scheme can increase fast response and lower CPU overhead.

  • Because of the development of IPTV, user is provided service of multimedia data regardless the location. But the number of users who try to get service of IPTV game illegally is also increasing. In this paper, user authentication protocol in IPTV housing using PIN code not to access easily for teenagers not to access to prohibited games. The proposed protocol combines authority data in IPTV household and creates a disposable password using PIN code to prevent teenagers from accessing illegally to the prohibited games and saves the data in certification server and set-top box to prevent forced accessing.

  • This paper proposes a system for reducing the standby power consumption in using the consumer electronic devices such as a television, a home theater, a set-top box, or a DVD player. The system is consisted of a flyback converter, monitoring circuits, a relay and a micro-processor. The proposed system can reduce the standby power consumption by disconnecting the AC input and the consumer devices can be turned on with a remote control. The proposed standby power system consumes the low power to receive the infrared signal from the remote controller. Furthermore, a electronic double layer capacitor is used to store the energy with high efficiency. The proposed power system can operate the 플라이백 converter to charge the electronic double layer capacitor and connect the AC input to the consumer electronic devices. The proposed power circuit can reduce the standby power consumption in AV devices without increasing the cost. The prototype is implemented to verify the system with the commercialized products.

  • Having been speedy development of the IT industry, devices such as set-top box and smart phone are used in the broad filed. Because Java has merits that are platform independency, security and mobility, that is important software platform to offer stable services in the small device. This needs JVM(Java Virtual Machine) to execute Java application in the small device. CVM(Classic Virtual Machine) which is the kind of JVM is designed for embedded device to have limited resources. In this paper, CVM which is defined by CDC has designed and implemented on the Real-Time Operating System, UbiFOS$^{TM}$.
