Oxidation Stability and Antioxidant Capacity of Lubricants Measured by a Pressure DSC

  • A methodology was developed for evaluation of oxidation stability of base stocks and engine oils. Analytical procedures for both classes of lubricants were based on the ASTM standards D 6186 and/or E 2009. The procedures were applied to a set of engine oils of the SAE 5W-30 specification, and to a set of several hydrocracked and solvent neutral base oils, both with and without addition of antioxidant. A potential of a pressure DSC for diagnostic purposed was also demonstrated by monitoring the engine oil ageing during its operation in heavy-duty engine.

Continuous and Accurate PCRAM Current-voltage Model

  • In this paper, we propose a new Verilog-A current-voltage model for multi-level-cell PCRAMs. This model can describe the PCRAM operation not only in full SET and RESET states but also in the partial resistance states. And, 3 PCRAM operating regions of SET-RESET, Negative Differential Resistance, and strong-ON are unified into one equation in this model thereby any discontinuity that may introduce a convergence problem cannot be found in the new PCRAM model. The percentage error between the measured data and this model is as small as 7.4% on average compared to 60.1% of the previous piecewise model. The parameter extraction which is embedded in the Verilog-A code can be done automatically.

  • This paper presents a scheduling method that uses Petri net modeling and heuristic search to handle the tool setup. In manufacturing systems, a tool is attached to a particular machine to process a particular operation. The activity to attach a tool to a particular machine and detach the tool from the machine requires time. The processing time of operations varies according to the attached tool and the machine used. The method proposed in this paper uses Petri net to model these characteristics and applies a search algorithm to the reachability graph of the Petri net model to generate an optimal or near-optimal schedule. New heuristic functions are developed for efficient search. The experimental results that show the effectiveness of the proposed method are presented.

  • This paper presents a design of the fuzzy decision maker which infers set value for fuel rate in the rotary kiln of making CaO. The fuzzy decision maker proposed are divided into two groups whose functions are different each other. The one operates when production demand is constant. The other deals with the status of varying production demand. We have chosen several variables used for composing condition and action part by investigating ingerent features of the rotary kiln and skilled operators`manual method of inferring fuel rate. Membership function of each variable was designed by analyzing experimental data and field data collected during two months. On-line operation with fuzzy rules suggested was done safely like human operators' action.

  • In this paper we design $H_{\infty}$ infinity controller for Induction motor with low speed operation. $H_{\infty}$ controller is applied in order to design a state feedback static controller for field oriented control of an induction motor. $H_{\infty}$ controller are linear plant can be set up using the same assumptions that are at the basis of field oriented control. Thus, $H_{\infty}$ control theory can be successfully used to set up a state feedback controller for field oriented control of an induction motor. The performances of the $H_{\infty}$ controller is numerically analysed and experimentally verified to prove the validity of the design procedure. In this paper show that performances with high robustness to variations of system parameter.

  • When a controller is implemented by a one-chip processor with fixed-point operations, the finite alphabet problem usually occurs since parameters and signals should be taken in a finite set of values. This paper formulates PID finite alphabet PID control problem which combines the PID controller with the finite alphabet problem. We will propose a PID parameter tuning method based on an optimization algorithm under the finite alphabet condition. The PID parameters can be represented by a fixed-point representation, and then the problem is formulated as an optimization with constraints that parameters are taken in the finite set. Some simulation are to be performed to exemplify the performance of the PID parameter tuning method proposed in this paper.

Debiasing Technique for Numerical Weather Prediction using Artificial Neural Network

  • Biases embedded in numerical weather precipitation forecasts by the RDAPS model was determined, quantified and corrected. The ultimate objective is to eventually enhance the reliability of reservoir operation by Korean Water Resources Corporation (KOWACO), which is based on precipitation-driven forecasts of stream flow. Statistical post-processing, so called MOS (Model Output Statistics) was applied to RDAPS to improve their performance. The Artificial Neural Nwetwork (ANN) model was applied for 4 cases of 'Probability of Precipitation (PoP) for wet and dry season' and 'Quantitative Precipitation Forecasts (QPF) for wet and dry season'. The reduction on the large systematic bias was especially remarkable. The performance of both networks may be improved by retraining, probably every month. In addition, it is expected that performance of the networks will improve once atmospheric profile data are incorporated in the analysis. The key to the optimal performance of ANN is to have a large data set relevant to the predictand variable. The more complex the process to be modeled by the ANN, the larger the data set needs to be.

  • This paper deals with an automated computer-aided process planning and die design system by which designer can determine operation sequences even if they have a little experience in process planning and die design for axisymmetric products. An attempt is made to link programs incorporating a number of expert design rules with the process variables obtained by commercial FEM softwares, DEFORM and ANSYS, to form a useful package. They can provide a flexible process based on either the reduction in the number of forming sequences by combining the possible two processes in sequence, or the reduction of deviation of the distribution on the level of the required forming loads by controlling the forming ratios. Especially in die design module an optimal design technique and horizontal split die were investigated for determining appropriate dimensions of components of multi-former die set. It is constructed that the proposed method can be beneficial for improving the tool life of die set at practice.

  • In this paper, ESS capacity installed in industrial customer is calculated using economic analysis. To do this, electric charge for industrial customer is analyzed and power management system(PMS) of ESS is selected. Reduction of kW cost and kWh cost are set to 'benefit' according to operation of ESS. Also, installation cost and maintenance cost of ESS are set to 'cost'. Proper ESS capacity is determined as a result of benefit-to-cost(B/C) analysis according to the variation of ESS installation cost. In case study, B/C is analyzed for the specific industrial customer and minimum capacity of ESS to make a profit are proposed for the customer.

A Novel Solid State Controller for Parallel Operated Isolated Asynchronous Generators in Pico Hydro Systems

  • This paper deals with a novel solid state controller (NSSC) for parallel operated isolated asynchronous generators (IAG) feeding 3-phase 4-wire loads in constant power applications, such as uncontrolled pico hydro turbines. AC capacitor banks are used to meet the reactive power requirement of asynchronous generators. The proposed NSSC is realized using a set of IGBTs (Insulated gate bipolar junction transistors) based current controlled 4-leg voltage source converter (CC-VSC) and a DC chopper at its DC bus, which keeps the generated voltage and frequency constant in spite of changes in consumer loads. The complete system is modeled in MATLAB along with simulink and PSB (power system block set) toolboxes. The simulated results are presented to demonstrate the capability of isolated generating system consisting of NSSC and parallel operated asynchronous generators driven by uncontrolled pico hydro turbines and feeding 3-phase 4-wire loads.
