  • Various inventory control theories have tried to modelling and analyzing supply chains by using quantitative methods and characterization of optimal control policies. However, despite of various efforts in this research filed, the existing models cannot afford to be applied to the realistic problems. The most unrealistic assumption for these models is customer demand. Most of previous researches assume that the customer demand is stationary with a known distribution, whereas, in reality, the customer demand is not known a priori and changes over time. In this paper, we propose a reinforcement learning based adaptive echelon base-stock inventory control policy for a multi-stage, serial supply chain with non-stationary customer demand under the service level constraint. Using various simulation experiments, we prove that the proposed inventory control policy can meet the target service level quite well under various experimental environments.

  • The study aims to analyze the supply chain role of supervision, discipline, work climate, and organizational learning on the performance of community services at the public works. This study took a sample of employees through purposive sampling technique at the Public Works Office and Bina Marga in a regency in East Java. Data through questionnaire was collected through a 5-point Likert scale model. The results show that the application of employee discipline affects the performance of public services, with a contribution of 39.7%, meaning that discipline and organizational learning are implementation factors that have an effect on public service performance. In stepwise regression analysis, the supervisory factor has a correlation with service performance, but it is less relevant, while the work climate is not relevant as a predictor variable to improve public service performance. The study revealed the importance of the supply chain policy of implementing good and clean governance and the enactment of the performance appraisal of the government apparatus established through Good Corporate Governance of the state apparatus. The findings provide a basis to encourage the public sector performance to smooth every step of supply chain management of every government project work, especially in the field of public services.

  • In the present manufacturing environment, the appropriate decision making strategy has a significance and it should count on the fast-changing demand of customers. This research derives the optimal levels of the decision variables affecting the inventory related performance in multi-stage supply chain by using simulation and genetic algorithm. Simulation model helps analyze the customer service level of the supply chain computationally and the genetic algorithm searches the optimal solutions by interaction with the simulation model. Our experiments show that the integration approach of the genetic algorithm with a simulation model is effective in finding the solutions that achieve predefined target service levels.

  • A major challenge to supply chain managers is how to control inventories and costs along the supply chain while maximizing customer service Performance. In the literature, although the optimal management of inventory along the supply chain has received considerable attention during the past decades, the attention has been mainly given to multi-echelon control policies. A prerequisite for applying these policies is full information transparency in the supply chain, which is hard to accomplish in practice because it may require major organizational chanties. In the case that a decentralized control (local (R, S) policy) should be used at each location in multi-stave distribution systems, this paper presents the coordinating approach of determining the best policy which satisfies predetermined target customer service levels and minimizes the mean physical stock along the system.

  • Keen competence in business environments induces companies to introduce Supply Chain Management (SCM), which is accelerated by emerging information technology. Consequently, supply chain integration requires interacting and information sharing among the companies participating in the supply chain. Web services, platform independent technologies, are recently used for SCM. However, web services themselves do not provide high level supply chain integration. Therefore, the ways to control and manage global processes over supply chain need to be developed. In this paper, we introduce a method of executing and managing supply chain process using Business Process Management (BPM) system. BPM system is a software system to support an efficient execution and management of complex business processes, and it is applied to supply chain processes . The supply chain processes can be regarded network of activities, each of which is served as web service and related to one of the participants. Our approach enables not only efficient managing but also effective monitoring of the process, which can be a good basis for improvement of the processes. For a speedy execution of processes, we provide a method to support decision making in course of executing process by software agents, which are also web services.

  • Purpose - Today's world is rapidly changing due to swift changes in organization's infrastructures and supply chain is becoming an important factor which affects the organization's global competitiveness. Research design / data / methodology - Researchers indicated that environment uncertainty is considered an external driving force to establish a unique supply chain. Market competition, reducing the gap of performance and quality between the products are compelling the practitioners and researcher to change the paradigm of managing the business processes effectively and efficiently. Results - In old times, supply chain of any organization was measured on the basis of inventory turns, defect rats, lead times, stock buffering and service level. But, Lee H.L. in 2004, published an article in Harvard Business Review who proposed three A (Adaptable, Agile and Aligned) termed as "Triple-A" of successful supply chain. Conclusions - He claimed that organizations can compete through the creation of Triple-A supply chain. Hence, the basic aim of this review paper is to develop basic insights regarding what is Triple-A of supply chain, its importance and functioning in today's competitive world.

  • The purpose of this research is to be acquainted with the awareness and approval of halal supply chain among Indian manufacturers and distribution network members for haulage and warehousing activities from the perception of respective service suppliers. A total of 20 respondents, which consist of 10 transportation companies and 10 warehousing companies from the State of Andhra Pradesh in India were selected for the study by using purposive sampling method. The principal focal points of the discussions are on awareness and adoption of halal transportation and warehousing services chosen for the study in the comprehensive halal supply chain. A total of 90 percent and 70 percent of respondents from the transportation and warehousing companies respectively agreed that they know only about the concept of halal but do not have any exposure and ken on the halal supply chain. However, findings of this research won't have extensive validity in the market, gaining an enough familiarity with the halal supply chain in the Indian social context is of immense importance. This is a pioneering attempt aimed to investigate the awareness and adoption levels of halal supply chain among Indian businessmen which are precious for supply chain companies to customize their services in the country as well to the world of academia.

  • Inventory, cost, and the level of service are three interrelated key metrics that most supply chain organizations are striving to optimize. One way to achieve this goal is to create a simulation model to conduct sensitivity analysis and optimization on several different supply chain policies that can be implemented in actual operation. In this paper, a case of Xerox global supply chain modeling and analysis to assess several "what if" scenarios for the consumable policy safety stock is presented. The simulation model, combined with analytical cost model and optimization module, is used to optimize the policy safety stock level to achieve the lowest total value chain cost. It was shown quantitatively that the policy safety stock can be reduced, but it is offset by the inbound premium transportation cost to expedite supplies in shortage, and the outbound premium transportation cost to send supplies to customers via express shipment, requiring fine balance.

  • Recently, a matter of the highest priority that the company must do for the satisfaction of customer service is that the company ensure the competitive power throughout the strategic cooperation in the market environment changing rapidly In this situation, one of allied strategies is the supply chain management and the outsourcing is one of the supply chain management strategies. In this paper, the inventory sharing system is introduced as the method to solve two inconsistency problem such as inventory and customer service. This paper also suggests how to increase customer service and to decrease inventory throughout construction of the inventory sharing system among outsourcing companies. For this, we experimented the effect of the inventory sharing system on the supply chain dynamics by using the simulation modeling and analyzed the validity about construction of the inventory sharing system presented in this study. The simulation is designed by Vensim(Process simulation package) and has some feedback loops.

  • In reality, distribution planning for a supply chain is established using a certain probabilistic distribution estimated by forecasting. However, in general, the demands used for an actual distribution planning are of deterministic value, a single value for each of periods. Because of this reason the final result of a planning has to be a single value for each period. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to estimate a single value due to the inherent uncertainty in the probabilistic distribution of customer demand. The issue addressed in this paper is the selection of single demand value among of the distributed demand estimations for a period to be used in the distribution planning. This paper proposes an efficient demand selection scheme for minimizing total inventory costs while satisfying target service level under the various experimental conditions.
